Advanced Placement Special Announcement - Class of 2019 and Class of 2020 Advanced Placement Students and Parents/Guardians It is my privilege to inform you that an anonymous donor has generously offered to fund up to two AP courses for each Junior and Senior enrolled in an AP course during the 2018-19 school year. We are extremely grateful for the extraordinary generosity of our benefactor. The spirit of this magnanimous gift is much more than monetary. This gift honors access and equity for all AP students to register for an AP exam regardless of their ability to pay for the exam. We are humbled and thankful that our students will benefit from this genuine act of altruism.

Information will be forthcoming from Ms. Taylor, Department Head for School Counseling, regarding registration and payment for any additional exams beyond the two exams covered by the donation.

Congratulations!: The Boston/New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the winners in this year's 2019 Boston/New England Student Awards for Excellence and Framingham's student-produced Flyer News was the winner in the Newscast category.

The Boston/New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences present awards of excellence to recognize outstanding student achievements in production. The presentation of these awards is intended to be an incentive for the continued pursuit of excellence by those studying media and journalism and to focus public attention on outstanding cultural, educational, technological, entertainment, news and informational achievements by undergraduate college and/or high school students. Flyer News is one of the few live-broadcast student-run television productions in the region. It airs 160 days per school year and provides a source of news, information and entertainment for the entire Framingham community.

Congratulations to Television Production Teacher Mr. Daoust, Student Producer Sabrina Casey, and the cast and crew of Flyer News.

Framingham State University Elevate and Connect: Youth Summit 2019 Open to all students. First come, first served basis, 20 seats available. Please contact Rachel Erickson at the College and Career Center in the Library.

FHS Robotics Team 9421X invited to the 2019 VEX World Championship!: This is the sixth year in a row the FHS team will have compete at Worlds and the fifth year in a row that 9421X has been at Worlds. We are the only public high school to compete in six out of the last six years. There are only two other schools in New England that have made six of the last six, congratulations!

Scheduling 2019-2020: The 2019-2020 master schedule will be created based on student course requests. Students will remain in the electives that they have selected. Freshman and Sophomore students may be scheduled for an elective that they did not choose. Preference for electives is in descending order Seniors to Freshmen. Freshmen and sophomore students are expected to take a full schedule. We are very fortunate to have a wealth of elective offerings and taking advantage of the courses we offer strengthens your high school program of study. Additionally exploring learning opportunities that you may not otherwise consider may lead to finding a new passion. If it is determined that a level change is needed in a core academic class, that decision will be

made collaboratively with the teacher, department head, parent and student on a case by case basis. Please note the language at the bottom of 9-12 course selection sheets: 3. ALL COURSE REQUESTS ARE FINAL ● Staffing and scheduling decisions are made based on the course selection of students in the spring. Please be sure to put classes that you are interested in taking, as schedule changes will not be possible once schedules are created and there will be no Add/Drop period.

Aspen X2 new feature enabled - Password Reset Portal

In Aspen, there is a self-service password reset feature which allows users to reset their account password without having to call the Technology Helpdesk for assistance. If you are an FPS Staff member or a student in grades 6-12 you can use the password reset feature, but you need to set the security preferences before using it for the first time.

Please refer to the documentation below to set up your security questions. This documentation can also be found on the Technology department Aspen X2 Information webpage. There are also links on every school website under the homepage Quick Links and in the Families and Students menu section, so that it can be easily referenced.

Aspen X2: Setting Your Security Questions for Password Reset Aspen X2: Self-Service Password Reset Instructions

The Office of Technology strongly encourages students in grades 6-12 and all FPS staff to enable Aspen X2 security questions and use the password reset link. We are hoping the password reset portal will make the process of logging into Aspen X2 easier for staff, students and families as we approach the time of year when more people access their accounts for transportation registrations and viewing school data.

Please note:

1. If your account is disabled, you will have to call the helpdesk for a password reset. At that time, we will instruct you on how to set up the security preferences. 2. Parents and Students currently log into the student’s Aspen X2 account with the same login ID and password.

FHS Staff Book Club - Upcoming Book Discussions

4/24 @ 2:30 pm in the Closed Classroom - Being Mortal by Atul Gawande

Several members of our book club are considering enrolling in a Reflective Reading course offered for grad credits online by Dominican University out of California: Dominican University Reflective Reading Course. So, we decided to choose our books for the next 3 months from the course’s book list; all of these books are ones that had been on our “to-read” list anyway, so we’re killing 2 birds with one stone. Our book discussions will not be related to the course, so you’re welcome to come discuss these books with us whether you’re planning to take this course or not.

FHS Staff Yoga

The Term 4 session of FHS Yoga will begin after April vacation (following a snow-day makeup class on 4/9). Tuesday afternoons at 2:20pm in the Library Closed Classroom, for a 70 minute class. Spring session dates: 4/23, 4/30, 5/7, 5/14, 5/21, 5/28, 6/4, 6/11. The full session costs $72, payable by check to our teacher, Joe Scianna. Drop-ins are always welcome at $10/class.

Couch to 5K Program

If you’re interesting in getting in shape after a long, cold winter please consider trying a Couch to 5K Program that Mark Goldschmidt will be organizing along with the Greater Framingham Running Club. It will start at Cushing Park at 8am on Saturday April 20th and will run (pun intended) for 8 weeks, culminating in a 5K road race in June. Group training sessions will take place at Cushing Park in a very supportive and judgment-free environment on Saturday mornings. This gradual progression is for those of you who have never tried a 5K before as well as those who have but who just want the structure and motivation to get back into it. All are welcome, so please let , neighbors and family know and reach out to Mark if you’re interested in getting the registration form.
