The Jeep Liberty/KJ 2001 2007Jeep Liberty/KK 2008 2013The Jeep Liberty, or Jeep Cherokee (KJ/KK) outside North America, is a compact SUV manufactured by Jeep for model years 2002 2012. Presented as a replacement for the Cherokee (XJ), Liberty was rated between Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. It was the smallest of the 4-door Jeep SUVs until the car based on the 4-door Compass and Patriot arrived in 2007. Freedom featured unibody-building. It was assembled at the Northern Assembly plant in the United States, as well as in other countries, including Egypt and Venezuela. Liberty ceased production on August 16, 2012. The next generation restored the previous Jeep Cherokee, which has always been used outside North America. It's not often that one type of car is associated with a certain brand, so that says a lot about that brand when it happens. Being the original 4x4 car that dates back to World War II, jeep is one of those manufacturers. In some parts of the world, people have a habit of using this name as a generic term for all off-road vehicles. With a reliable chassis and capable all-wheel drive systems, it was synonymous with an unstoppable and reliable SUV. However, the introduction and assault of the success of Sports Utility vehicles and crossovers at the end of the millennium showed that buyers were looking for more than rugged terrain opportunities. This new breed has provided a decent off-road potential while keeping the car-like behavior when on the road. Thanks to this unique mix of moving characteristics, SUVs have become a hit among car owners who have spent most of their time on paved roads but are still operating without a road from time to time. It also meant that we need an updated lineup that will help keep up with current trends. One of the first cars of this kind was the Jeep Liberty. First First (2002-2007) Transition codenamed KJ, the first generation of Jeep Liberty replaced the trusted but aging Cherokee in 2002. The use of the name differs from the predecessor highlighted by the beginning of a new off-road chapter, although cars outside the U.S. market kept the Cherokee name. Attracting many innovations and updates its main goal was to give aggressive competition sports SUVs a run for their money. The exterior design, drawing inspiration from the jeepster and Dakar concepts, featured more rounded body lines. Large, round headlights placed on prominent locations and characteristic vertical grilles give it a look similar to the legendary Wrangler. It was additionally highlighted with a bulky, box-like flash wing and rear door mounted spare wheel. Despite these retro-style details, the overall shape of the car was in contact with the design trends of the time. While Cherokee offered two- and four-door options, Liberty was only available in four-door forms. The interior offers plenty of space, with ample supply for even the tallest people, thanks to the high roof and low floor line. The only complaint may be with a few rare leg area at the back. The seats, available either in rough fabric or soft leather, are comfortable enough even for longer trips and offer decent support. The dashboard, although it has all the necessary components and parts, may seem overly simplistic and cheap. However, the dash-mounted passenger grab rail is a practical detail for off-road wandering. However, the biggest changes and upgrades were hiding under the skin, where Liberty introduced several new features. Unlike the older off-road vehicles that used the body design on the frame, Liberty had a single-body design, making it lighter and tighter. Together with the steering rack and pinion and independent front suspension, it has greatly improved the handling and comfort of the road. Another important update was the introduction of two PowerTech petrol engines, one four-cylinder and the other in the V6 layout. Liberty was also one of the first in its class to offer a modern diesel engine in the U.S. market. The CRD icon may suggest that the engine was delivered from Mercedes-Benz, since the Jeep was part of Daimler-Chrysler Corporation at the time. However, the unit under the hood came from an Italian engine manufacturer called VM Motori. Steele, it was an efficient, durable and well-ed engine that offered great towing capabilities and remarkable fuel economy. The choice of transmission ranged from a 4-speed and 5-speed automatic to a 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission, depending on engine choice and trim level. Being typical The new Liberty has offered a reliable and capable all-wheel-drive system available in two versions. The first is a part-time Command-Trac, where the driver uses the lever to select from multiple transmission body configurations. In standard 2WD mode, all power goes into the rear rear that improves fuel economy and reduces the load on the transmission. The 4WD option includes a front ach that increases overall traction and improves handling on slippery surfaces, while the low-range option increases torque output and helps scale steep climbs. Another available system is the full-time Selek-Truck, which offers similar options and advantages as a part-time option with the addition of an open central case. This allowed the front and rear axle to rotate at separate speeds, making all-wheel drive possible on all surfaces and at any time. Second Generation (2008-2012) After satisfactory first generation success, Jeep introduced a successor in 2008, codenamed KK. With the overall size and overall layout remaining virtually unchanged, this did not seem like a huge step forward. However, the new car was distinguished by updated design solutions and other improvements, which makes it a subtle evolution of the previous generation. Outside, the new Freedom got a more muscular look. The biggest difference was at the front end, with large rectangular headlights, a higher grille and a flat hood. The body design was distinguished by sharp lines and large surfaces, which gave it a square and almost military appearance. These customization designs set the image of the new freedom separate from the old, Wrangler inspired style. The interior has several updates designed to achieve a more upscale look. The dashboard had much more features, with a focus on infotainment and connectivity options. The buttons and handles had a strong and convincing feel, improving the perception of build quality. In addition, most of the materials inside the car were more refined and have a softer appearance. There were no major changes under the skin. The only engine available, the V6 unit, was the same as in the old Liberty. There were no four-cylinder engines, as the recently introduced Patriot is aimed at fuel buyers. Diesel, although available in the rest of the world, has not found its way into the U.S. market due to strict emissions rules. Customers could choose from two transmissions, a 5-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission. While the all-wheel drive system remained the same, it used a switch know instead of a lever that made it easier to operate and eliminate the possibility of driver error. Despite a plethora of pluses and continuous improvements, the new Liberty has never been a sales hit. Unlike its predecessor, which ended up with 900,000 units sold in 5 years of production, KK Liberty summarized only 400,000 cars in the same period. It was for several reasons. One they were imported manufacturers who usually offered more flexible and better suitable cars of this class. Another was the in-house competition, brought by Dodge Nitto, which used identical platforms, engines and much of the design. Jeep Liberty out of production 2012, giving way to a new cherokee.
