RELEASE NUMBER 10 (November 4, 2008) Versus (National) | KOA-RADIO | CUBUFFS.COM (Live Stats) QUICKLY SPEAKING… The Colorado Buffaloes (4-5, 1-4 Big 12) return home for two straight games after playing three of the last four away from home, hosting the Iowa State Cyclones (2-7, 0-5 Big 12) in CU’s annual Veteran’s Day game this Saturday, Nov. 8, in an 11:37 a.m. kickoff at Folsom Field … The game will be televised nationally by Versus, CU’s first-ever appearance on the network; Ron Thulin (play-by-play), former Colorado State quarterback Kelly Stouffer (analyst) and Lewis Johnson (sidelines) will be on hand to call the action … These schools are accustomed to meeting when the weather hasn’t been the best, or at least warm, as it is the 15th time in the last 18 meetings the two, the most western and northern in the Big 12, will meet in November; CU has won 11 of the 14 previous “turkey month” encounters … Colorado is coming off a 24-17 loss at Texas A&M, a game in which CU basically won the first, second and fourth quarters, but a 21-point Aggie third period did the Buffs in … CU’s Nov. 15 home finale against Oklahoma State has been selected for a split-national broadcast on ABC and will thus kickoff at 6:00 p.m.; the other game is Boston College-Florida State … Plenty of good seats remain for CU’s final two home games, Iowa State and Oklahoma State (Nov. 15, Senior Night); they can be purchased on line at CUBuffs.com, at TicketsWest outlets in all King Soopers stores, or by calling 303-49-BUFFS … Visit CUBuffs.com/gameday as your one stop for everything, including live stats for all games. DEPTH CHART ON PAGE 56, ROSTER ON PAGES 57-58 VETERAN’S DAY PROMOTION CU will honor all military service veterans this Saturday, ahead of next Tuesday’s Veteran’s Day; a special ticket deal, “Four For Sixty” (four tickets for $60) is available on CU’s official website, CUBuffs.com. Weather-permitting, there will be a Navy flyover, vets will participate in the coin toss and campus ROYC awards are among the festivities to take place. STAT OF THE WEEK One area that has had a stark contrast between CU’s offense and defense has come in the area of third and long. Colorado is a decent 11-of-49 on 3rd-&-10 or longer (22.4%), while the opponent is just 3-of-31 (9.7%). Going a yard further out, CU is 6-of-34 on 3rd-&-11 or more (17.6%) while the foe is only 1-of- 22 (4.5%); and going a yard in the other direction (3rd-&-9 or longer), Colorado is 13-of-54 (24.1) and the enemy is 4-of-39 (10.2). On the year, CU is converting at 37.4 percent overall on offense, with the opponents at 39.8 percent. OBSCURE NOTE OF THE WEEK Colorado outrushed Texas A&M by 194-94 in last Saturday’s 24-17 defeat in College Station. That was a rarity as it turned out, as more often than not, when CU wins the ground battle, it has won the game: since 1989, the Buffaloes are 123-14-3 when having more rushing yards than the opponent. 63 STRAIGHT This will be the 63rd straight season that Colorado and Iowa State will have met, as the two first played a home-and-home series in 1946-47 and then became permanent conference rivals when CU joined the then-Big Seven for the 1948 season. The only other school CU has met in as many consecutive years is Missouri, also 63 seasons (though they played a few times prior to 1946). After ISU and MU, it’s Colorado’s three other North Division rivals, Kansas, Kansas State and Nebraska, all at 61, and then it drops all the way to 14 (Colorado State). 2008 COLORADO SCHEDULE & RESULTS (4-5, 1-4 BIG 12) 2008 Date CU* Opponent Opp* TV Result/Time Record Series This-N-That Aug. 31 NR Colorado State (N; Denver) NR FSN W 38-17 4-5 59-19-2 Smith 93 KOR, Hawkins TD runs and defensive effort (CSU: 258 yds) wins it SEPT. 6 NR EASTERN WASHINGTON NR none W 31-24 3-5 1- 0-0 C.Brown’s 27 INT/TD return with 1:44 left rallies CU; Hawkins 3 TD passes SEPT. 18 NR WEST VIRGINIA 21 ESPN W 17-14 (OT) 6-2 1- 0-0 Buffs up 14-0 early, win it in first OT on Goodman 25 FG Sept. 27 NR Florida State (at Jacksonville) NR ABC L 21-39 6-2 0- 3-0 CU missed on early opportunities, FSU pulls away thanks to special teams OCT. 4 NR TEXAS (N; HC) 5 FSN L 14-38 8-1 7-10-0 Buffs sluggish on offense, late first half UT TD put ‘Horns up 21-0 Oct. 11 NR at Kansas 16 ESPN2 L 14-30 6-3 41-24-3 KU breaks open a 16-14 game with two fourth quarter scores OCT. 18 NR KANSAS STATE (FW) NR FSN W 14-13 4-5 44-19-1 Buffs rush for 247, CU forces KS into 6 3-and-outs, matching season total Oct. 25 NR at Missouri 16 FSN L 0-58 7-2 31-39-3 Tigers end CU’s 242-game scoring streak, but trot first team D out at end Nov. 1 NR at Texas A & M NR none L 17-24 4-5 5- 3-0 Buffs ahead 10-3 at half but A&M scores 21 in 3Q; CU season-high 392 TO NOV. 8 NR IOWA STATE NR Versus 11:30 a.m. 2-7 47-14-1 CU 17-3 vs. Iowa State in Boulder since 1967, including 11 of last 12 NOV. 15 OKLAHOMA STATE ABC 6:00 p.m. 8-1 26-17-1 Last meeting in ’05, a 34-0 CU win, LB Burton returns pick 99 yards for TD Nov. 28 at Nebraska ABC 1:30 p.m. 5-4 18-46-2 Teams play one of six games in ’07 where both teams scored 50-plus Dec. 6 Big 12 Championship Game ABC 6:00 p.m. (Kansas City, Mo.)
