The colt Sir Barton was one of four Kentucky Derby winners bred at Hamburg Place by a master of the Turf, one John E. Madden. It is not based on a thorough examination of all of the scholarly literature available on Genesis 12-22. Moreover, I do not bring to the task any special competence in the ancient languages, in the history and anthropology of the various peoples identified. However, I do attempt to examine some of the theological, philosophical and spiritual works which propose a wide variety of interpretations of the story of Abraham in Genesis, 12-22.
