"Some people asked me to give a safe seat to her (Nurul Izzah). I went back and discussed with her, and she said 'no papa, they are my people, I will defend Lembah Pantai'," he said. Besides his eldest daughter, Anwar also announced another four PKR candidates in the federal territory of Kuala Lumpur - Tian Chua (Batu,) Abdul Khalid Ibrahim (Bandar Tun Razak), Dr Tan Kee Kwong (Wangsa Maju) and Ibrahim Yaacob (Setiawangsa). I was in England recently and the newspapers were full of dismal reports on bank and business failures, the closure of well-known businesses like Woolworths and Baratt, the increases of unemployment rate with some 700,000 professionals among the 2 million laid off or unable to get jobs. And there were lots more bad news. 2. The British Government is busy bailing out banks and companies with hundreds of billions of pounds but the economy seemed to have gone into recession despite all these efforts. There is no sign that the crisis is on the mend. 3. Malaysia can feel vindicated because all the things we did in the 1997 - 98, crisis, which were condemned by the economists of Europe and America, are now being done by them blatantly and on a massive scale. They talk about trillions of dollars and hundreds of billions of pounds in bailouts. Where the money is coming from is not revealed. Have they been keeping these huge sums for such an emergency? 4. I am not a financier or even an economist. But somehow I think the bailouts are not going to work although they worked in our case. 5. This is because the banks and businesses we bailed out did not get into trouble because they abused the systems or indulged in fraud. They were forced into that situation because the currency was devalued by currency traders and they found themselves unable to meet their commitments. Once they gained access to funds through bailouts they were able to do business again and to repay the money they had received.

    26 JAN 1999 GERAKAN-TAX GERAKAN EXPRESSES SUPPORT FOR EXIT TAX KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Parti Gerakan) fully supports the introduction of exit tax for early repatriation of capital as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday, said one of its official today. "The rationale for this policy, Parti Gerakan believes, is that Asian economies are in a recovery phase and Malaysia must take advantage of this and not lag behind," said its deputy secretary-general Dr Tan Kee Kwong in a statement released here today. Dr Tan, who is also the Member of Parliament for Segambut, said the party believes that Malaysia has largely achieved the objectives of selective capital controls it implemented on Sept 1, 1998. This is seen in the stabilising of the base lending rates (BLR) and the return of confidence of foreign and local investors, he said. The Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) has made a fantastic recovery over the past five months, where the composite index has gone beyond the 600 point mark and foreign reserves have increased by 15 percent, he added. On the repatriation of capital, Parti Gerakan has suggested that the government consider allowing, for the first quarter of 1999, companies to repatriate 20 percent of their principle of portfolio investments and 10 percent of their profits. It has also requested the government to allow companies, in the second quarter, to repatriate 15 percent of their principle of portfolio investments and 10 percent of profits. In the third quarter, companies should be allowed to repatriate 10 percent of their principle of portfolio investments and 10 percent of profits, the party has suggested.

WGAD terdiri daripada lima individu yang dilantik dalam kapasiti peribadi. Oleh yang demikian, Pendapat yang dikeluarkan oleh WGAD tidak mewakili pandangan mana-mana negara anggota PBB mahupun pendirian PBB secara keseluruhan. Pendapat WGAD tersebut juga tidak terikat dari segi undang-undang (not legally binding). 4. Kerajaan Malaysia telah meneliti secara menyeluruh pendapat No. 22/2015 WGAD mengenai kes penghukuman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Untuk makluman Dewan, pada 16 November 2015, Kerajaan telah mengemukakan maklum balas komprehensif terhadap pendapat tersebut kepada Kumpulan Kerja berkenaan. Kementerian Luar Negeri juga telah memuatnaik maklumbalas tersebut di laman web Kementerian, dan telah mengeluarkan kenyataan akhbar mengenai maklumbalas tersebut. 5.
