Its three founding members – Macdonald Institute, the Ontario Agricultural College and the Ontario Veterinary College – are older than the University itself. Established in Toronto in 1862, the Ontario Veterinary College is the oldest veterinary school in Canada. The University now consists of seven colleges: the College of Arts, the College of Biological Science, the College of Business and Economics, the College of Physical and Engineering Science, the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences, the Ontario Agricultural College and the Ontario Veterinary College. The University also has a regional campus in Ridgetown, Ont., and several research stations. The University of Guelph-Humber in Toronto offers joint diploma and degree programs that provide students with real- world experience through work placements. The University’s main campus features a blend of historical and modern architecture. Brick pathways connect century-old buildings with steel and glass structures. A bronze statue of the gryphon, the University’s mascot, guards the main entrance to campus at the corner of Gordon Street and Stone Road. The iconic cannon, located in Branion Plaza, is best known for its constantly changing appearance – it’s a campus tradition to paint the cannon on an almost daily basis. With more than 20,000 undergraduate and 2,100 graduate students, the University is consistently ranked highly for providing a comprehensive education that combines traditional academia with experiential learning and co-operative education outside the classroom. Research opportunities allow students to learn and work with faculty who are experts in their field. The University welcomes international students from around the world, while providing study abroad programs for those interested in broadening their global perspective. Guelph’s alumni population continues to grow and now totals more than 101,000 alumni in 145 countries. 2 2019-20 GUELPH GRYPHONS MEN’S HOCKEY Guelph Gryphons 2019-20 OUA PLAYOFFS (1) (3) CARLETON WON GUELPH WON 2-0 2-1 (8) (6) GUELPH WON CONCORDIA WON 2-0 2-0 (4) (4) BROCK WON CONCORDIA 2-0 WON 2-1 (5) (5) GUELPH WON SERIES OTTAWA WON SERIES 2-1 2-0 (2) (3) RYERSON WON OTTAWA WON 2-0 GUELPH WON 2-1 2-1 (3OT) (7) (6) WESTERN WON OTTAWA WON 2-1 2-1 (2) (1) WON WESTERN WON 2-0 2-1 (7) (8) 2019-20 GRYPHON REGULAR SEASON STAT LEADERS goals ASSISTS POINTs #9 Mikkel Aagaard 22 #9 Mikkel Aagaard 24 #9 Mikkel Aagaard 46 #28 Todd Winder 16 #43 Ryan Valentini 24 #43 Ryan Valentini 39 #43 Ryan Valentini 15 #28 Todd Winder 23 #28 Todd Winder 39 #17 Marc Stevens 14 #75 Justin Lemcke 19 #17 Marc Stevens 26 #92 Giordano Finoro 13 #5 Jesse Saban 17 #92 Giordano Finoro 24 3 Guelph Gryphons 2019-20 SEASON RECAP REGULAR SEASON RECORD: 17-6-5 (3rd IN OUA West Division) PLAYOFF RECORD: 7-2 (OUA Champions) PLAYOFF FINISH: OUA Champions - Queen’s Cup / Final Score 2-1 vs Ottawa in Triple OT LAST U SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP: 1997 TOTAL U SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS: 1 TEAM OFFENCE (REGULAR SEASON): 4.54 goals/game, 1st in OUA TEAM DEFENCE (REGULAR SEASON): 3.48 goals against/game, 13th in OUA TEAM LEADERS (REGULAR SEASON / POST SEASON) POINTS: Mikkel Aagaard, 46, 1st in OUA / Giordano Finoro, Marc Stevens, Stephen Templeton & Todd Winder, 7 GOALS: Mikkel Aagaard, 22, 1st in OUA / Marc Stevens & Todd Winder, 4 ASSISTS: Mikkel Aagaard, 24, 1st in OUA / Stephen Templeton, 5 Probable starting goalie: Andrew Masters (9-5-3, 3.65 GAA, .887 SV%) / (2-0-0, 1.25 GAA, .955 SV%) SEASON NOTES: • started the season No. 10, peaked as high as No. 3 and ended the year No. 3 in the U SPORTS polls • qualified for nationals for3rd time in 6 years (bronze at 2015 University Cup in Halifax) • qualified for OUA playoffs for 11th time in 13 years under Shawn Camp • led the OUA in goals scored and goals per game during the regular season • finished the regular season withthree of the top four point leaders in the OUA (Mikkel Aagaard 1st, Ryan Valentini T-3rd, Todd Winder T-3rd) • local product, Giordano Finoro finished the playoffs tied for the top spot on the Gryphons in scoring, while also finishing T-3rd in scoring among OUA rookies (7 pts in 9 games played - 3 G, 4 A) • since January 16, the Gryphons have been the hottest team in the OUA playing to a 13-3 record (including playoffs) 4 2019-20 GUELPH GRYPHONS MEN’S HOCKEY Guelph GryphonsGuelph Gryphons 2018-19 OUA AWARDOUA ALL-STARSWINNERS #28 Todd Winder #43 Ryan Valentini #92 Giordano Finoro OUA West First Team All-Star OUA West Second Team All-Star OUA West All-Rookie Team All having phenomenal 2019-20 seasons, Todd Winder, from last year and tallied a tremendous 39 points this year. A former team captian of the Danish U20 team, as well as a member of the Denmark national team, Aagaard provided plenty of offence and leadership for Guelph. However, in what became the biggest story line of the Gryphon’s season, the Guelph captain accepted an offer to join the Wolfsburg Grizzlys of the DEL in Germany shortly after the Gryphons had dropped their opening game of the 2019-20 OUA playoffs. Having led the OUA in points, goals and assists during the regular season, while also leading U SPORTS in goals and finsihing second in U SPORTS total points, Aagaard quickly became a big gap that the Gryphons needed to fill. Trailing the Laurier Golden Hawks in their opening round best of three playoff series 1-0, and now without their captain, the Gryphons came together as a team in an inspiring fashion to win seven of their next eight games en route to hoisting their 7th Queen’s Cup in program history.
