Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2010-561 PDF version Ottawa, 9 August 2010 Canadian Broadcasting Corporation ARTV Inc. Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (the general partner), and Barna-Alper Productions Inc., CineNova Productions Inc., Galafilm Inc., the National Film Board of Canada and Omni Film Productions Ltd. (the limited partners), carrying on business as The Canadian Documentary Channel Limited Partnership Across Canada Administrative renewals 1. The Commission renews the broadcasting licences for the programming undertakings set out in appendix I to this decision from 1 September 2010 to 31 March 2011 and from 1 September 2010 to 31 August 2011 for those listed in Appendix II, subject to the terms and conditions in effect under the current licences. 2. This decision does not dispose of any substantive issues that may exist with respect to the renewal of these licences and interested parties will have an opportunity to comment at the appropriate time. 3. The Commission notes that it does not intend to renew authorizations for full-power analog transmitters operating in the mandatory markets or on channels 52 to 69 outside the mandatory markets beyond 31 August 2011. The Commission, when renewing licences beyond 31 August 2011, expects licensees, by that time, to have the necessary authority to broadcast in digital. In addition, the Commission intends to impose the following condition on affected licensees: Unless otherwise authorized by the Commission, the licensee shall not transmit analog television signals after 31 August 2011. 4. As stated in Issues related to the digital television transition, Broadcasting Regulatory Policy CRTC 2010-485, 16 July 2010, the Commission is of the view that the conversion of one or more trial market(s) for digital television conversion would be beneficial. However, the Commission considered it was inappropriate to establish trial market(s) in the absence of clarity concerning the timing and scope of a national coordinated consumer education campaign and given the lack of agreement among broadcasters regarding which market(s) would be the most appropriate for the trial. Pending the selection of the most appropriate trial market(s), the Commission renews the broadcasting licences set out in appendix I to this decision from 1 September 2010 to 31 March 2011. The Commission intends to administratively renew the licences of undertakings not operating in the trial market(s) to 31 August 2011 following the designation of the trial market(s). 5. The Commission notes that it does not intend to renew the licences for the transitional digital television services listed in this decision, beyond 31 August 2011.     Shortwave radio frequencies guide pdf Continue This is a list of frequencies from each country that carry some English and which can be heard in North America. Many are easy to hear; some of them are difficult and rarely audible. Listen to Asia and Australia in the morning and listen to Europe at night. No SW frequency works 24 hours. You may not hear anything if you are listening at the right time, or you can hear another language, or you may hear some other country sharing frequency. Many countries can be heard better in non-English broadcasts. Explore the dial and you will hear a lot of fascinating things, including exotic music. Some stations only air a few minutes of English; Or only in ID ads (Mexico); or only language lessons (Ecuador). The country of origin is shown. Many frequencies are transmitted from other places. In the case of China, all of them shown below are relays. Don't think any particular frequency actually comes directly from the country of origin. Some major countries are no longer broadcasting to North America intentionally, such as Australia, Germany, South Africa or the United Kingdom. Longer frequency lists for them give you a better chance of hearing something directed elsewhere. In some countries or even outside that country (Liberia, Nigeria, Sudan) more than one station may be involved. Many of the strongest signals from strictly religious broadcasters in the U.S. and other countries are not shown. Synopsis As the CRTC prepares to hold a licence renewal hearing for the CBC, the Forum for Research and Policy in Communications (FRPC) believes it would be useful to provide interested parties with a contextual and historical analysis of the funding of this key component of the Canadian broadcasting system. The CRTC last renewed the Corporation’s licences in 2013, for a standard five-year period. The licences have now been extended administratively several times by the Commission. As the Commission itself observed in the public notice calling the CBC to the renewal hearing, the landscape of the broadcasting environment has changed considerably since the last time the CBC appeared: “The way in which Canadians consume and create content is changing. Online services and platforms are increasingly being adopted across the country.” This makes the May 2020 hearing a pivotal one for the CBC and for its future role in the national conversation. This paper uses financial data collected from 80 of the 83 Annual Reports published by CBC since 1937 to analyze public funding granted to and received by CBC for its operations.
