Her 8 th place time of 1:30:58 is her 6th qualifier and she leads the chase for the remaining two women's spots behind Rachel Tallent who was selected in February. As the 20km qualifying period finished on Sunday, the Australian selectors are meeting this week to select the remaining two women's 20km spots and the remaining two men's 20km spots. Regan is one of 5 women in the running, with qualifying performances shown below. This summer has seen a big breakthrough for William who has shot to national prominence. • Also competing in the Tasmanian T&F Championships in Hobart last weekend, 17 year old Alice Randall won the Open Women’s 5000m walk in a 27 sec PB time of 23:59.24. Alice won the U18 5000m walk at the 2017 Australian Junior T&F Championships a year ago and won the Australian U20 10km roadwalk in Wollongong last August, but her times are now in another class. • Competingin the Queensland T&F Championships in Brisbane last weekend, 15 year old Nelson McCutcheon scored his own double, winning the U17 5000m walk on Thursday in a 48 sec PB time of 21:45.01, then backing up on Sunday to win the U10 10,000m walk with an inaugural time of 48:16.40.

Nick has become the dominant U.S. male race walker at all distances, having won the 2018 USATF National Championships at the Indoor Mile, 3,000m, and 5,000m and 10km, 20km, and 50km outdoors, and then capturing the Silver Medal at the 2018 NACAC Championships at 20km, He took up race walking after being a California State HS Championship qualifier in the hurdles and pole vault, and quickly became a 5x NAIA All-American and 3,000m Collegiate Record holder at Missouri Baptist Univ. In his quest to become the best, he competed in Russia, Mexico, China, Chile, Australia, Italy, Canada, and Great Britain in 2018. #2) Matthew Forgues, 26, Boothbay, ME. PR: 4:23:28. A graduate of Goucher College, Matthew is currently living in Chula Vista and training with Tim Seaman. He was 4th in the 2016 Olympic Trials, third at the 2017 Nationals and 2nd last year. This was the only A qualifier done on the day in the horrendous conditions and it was her third win in a row in this annual championship. This confirmed her Olympic spot and was a dominant display. This week, I am going to balance the equation and announce my walker of the week as Jared Tallent. Jared and Claire flew out on the Sunday morning after their heroics in Hobart and both contested 20km races a week later in what was a big weekend carnival of walking in Chihuahua in Mexico – and both were successful, earning silvers in their respective events. Jared fought it out with Eder Sanchez of Mexico, taking silver in 1:21:50 while Claire fought it out with Portuguese walker Ines Henriques, also taking silver in 1:33:21. You can read about both their performances later in the newsletter. For Jared, it was another fantastic top-eight finish and it was in the lesser of his two Olympic events. With the Olympic 50km event this week, Jared upped the ante even further, taking his second successive Olympic 50km silver medal and recording a 2+ minute PB time of 3:36:53, also breaking the Olympic record into the bargain. What a performance! Walker of the Week! 50KM MEN'S RACEWALK, OLYMPIC GAMES, THE MALL, LONDON, SATURDAY 11 AUGUST 2012 The men's Olympic 50km walk started at 9AM at the Mall in London and I was one of the many spectators who lined the 2km loop to cheer on the contestants.
