RaboDirect PRO12 : PREVIEW 2012/13 Round 18: 22ND & 23RD March 2013 ROUND 18 PREVIEWS With just five rounds left to decide which teams will contest the Play-Offs, there is a new leader of the RaboDirect PRO12 with Glasgow Warriors taking over the mantle from Ulster, whilst for the fourth round in succession, Ospreys swapped places with Scarlets in the Play-Off Zone. Three of those teams are in action on Friday night; Ulster traveling to Edinburgh, Ospreys hosting Welsh rivals Newport Gwent Dragons, and Scarlets in Italy to face Zebre. Edinburgh can do their Scottish neighbours, Warriors, a favour if they can defeat Ulster however their record against the Ulstermen is not great. Meanwhile Ospreys and Scarlets must both be looking to come away with maximum points from opponents who are sitting at the wrong end of the table in their bids to reach the Play-Offs. The leaders, Glasgow Warriors, are not in action until Saturday, and are the only one of the potential Play-Off teams to face another side from the top half of the table when the visit Leinster at the RDS. Munster will also be looking for maximum points in the All-Irish clash against Connacht if they are to make a final push for the knockout stages. With just two points separating the top three teams in the table, whilst it is even closer for the final Play Off spot, there is definitely all to play for still as the RaboDirect PRO12 enters its closing stages. ROUND 18 FIXTURES Friday 22 March EDINBURGH RUGBY v ULSTER At Murrayfield, 7.30pm.

  • RD PRO12 Peview Round 9
RaboDirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2012/13 Round Nine: 23rd – 25th November 2012 ROUND NINE PREVIEWS With the completion of their postponed Round 4 game against Zebre, Ulster have now pulled out a six points lead at the top of the RaboDirect PRO12 table. They are in action in Italy again on Friday night when they face Benetton Treviso at Stadio Monigo, and will be looking to extend their unbeaten record in the country as well as maintaining their 100per cent start to this season’s RaboDirect PRO12. Current RaboDirect PRO12 champions, Ospreys, are also in action on Friday night travelling to Murrayfield to play Edinburgh Rugby. Ospreys sit just outside the top four due to poorer points difference than Munster, should results go their way this weekend it could be the first time they have entered the Play-Off zone this season. The match of the day must be the encounter at Scotstoun where third placed Glasgow Warriors must overcome the reigning European champions, Leinster if they are to set a new Warriors record in this tournament of seven successive wins. The final game on Friday night is in Wales when Newport Gwent Dragons host Connacht. Both teams have had a mixed start to their seasons, and a win would be a welcome boost to their campaigns. The round concludes with two games on Sunday, Munster v Scarlets and Zebre v Cardiff Blues. After having narrowly missed out to Ulster last weekend, Zebre are still looking for their first win in the completion, and will be hoping Blues poor form continues for one more week.

  • Rabodirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2013/14 ROUND 15 PREVIEWS ROUND 15 FIXTURES
RaboDirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2013/14 Round 15: 20th – 23rd February 2014 ROUND 15 PREVIEWS With the international weekend kicking off on Friday night, the majority of the RaboDirect PRO12 games take place on Sunday, however Cardiff Blues open round 15 with their game against current champions, Leinster at the Arms Park on Thursday evening and if past form is any guide Cardiff will have their work cut out to claim victory in this match. The sole game on Saturday is also in Wales with Edinburgh Rugby visiting Llanelli to play Scarlets, who missed out last round due to the weather in Belfast. The Scots do not travel well, so Scarlets must be hoping to put their own home record back on track in this fixture. The remaining four games take place on Sunday, with a TV double header in Italy, Benetton Treviso hosting Ulster and Zebre facing another Irish province, Connacht. Connacht’s victory over Edinburgh last time out saw them swap places with Zebre at the foot of the table, which could be reversed if Zebre claim this tie. Ulster on the other hand will be hoping they can make up some ground on the teams above them in the Play-Off zone. At the same time the remaining two Welsh regions will be in action in the principality. Newport Gwent Dragons opponents’ Glasgow Warriors, currently sit in 4th place in the table courtesy of one more win than Ulster, and still have two games in hand over the three teams above them. The outstanding game must be the pick of the weekend, leaders Munster travelling to face 3rd placed Ospreys, who claimed a record victory over Treviso in their last game at the Liberty Stadium.

  • Make the Game Safer Or Parents Won't Let Their Children Play It
10 | SPORT | RUGBY S1 Sunday Independent 6 March 2016 Always check the background The 70 so-called experts lack the qualifications or experience to dictate to us about rugby injuries NEIL FRANCIS HIS one is about failure in the media, more specifically failure to question. I read the financial press every day. On a regular basis TI come across articles where I am told that some Gordon Gekko-type hedge fund principal or financier tells us he is really worried and he thinks sterling will devalue by two or three per cent in the next month. The explanations as to why this will happen are somewhat plausible but please . no panic. There is no byline, no author, and no references — nothing under the piece to suggest any attribution. We have no idea where it came from or who penned it. It just appeared. There is nothing to substantiate it or no counter-argument or editorial to challenge it. So we read it and repeat it to our mates. I see Gordon Gekko says sterling will devalue by two or three per cent in the next month. It then becomes a fact. What is indisputable is that it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The boys have all short positions in place and when the forest fire starts, they collect. A month later we are all blown away. That fella Gordon Gekko is a bloody genius. Put something out there in the newspaper and if nobody checks or challenges it, well then it is a fact. Wednesday evening came slowly and my editor calls.

  • RD PRO12 Preview Round 10
RaboDirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2013/14 Round 10: 20 & 21 December 2013 ROUND 10 PREVIEWS The focus returns once again to the RaboDirect PRO12 after two weeks of European competition, with Irish Provinces topping three of the six Heineken Cup Pools. Ulster are the stand-out performers so far, the only team with a 100 per cent winning record still left in the competition, garnering 18 pool points in the process. Munster and Leinster, both also past winners of the trophy, top their respective pools, whilst Cardiff Blues, the top placed Welsh Region, are only two points shy of their pool leaders, reigning champions Toulon. The Irish provinces are faring well in the RaboDirect PRO12 as well, with three of the four Play-Off places taken up by them, Munster pulling out a four point lead at the top of the table as the half-way point of the season approaches. They are in action at Musgrave Park on Saturday evening when they face Scarlets, the Welsh region having won at this venue last time they visited. The round starts off on Friday night with the remaining three teams currently in the Play-Off Zone – Leinster, Glasgow Warriors and Ulster - all in action. Second placed Leinster travel to Murrayfield buoyed by the fact they have won their last five contests with Edinburgh, whilst in Glasgow, Benetton Treviso are the visitors. Having led in the early part of the season Warriors now reside in third place in the table, level on points with Ulster and need a win to keep their season on track.

To many of our generation, he was irresistible. His interviews with Harry Carpenter and Michael Parkinson, both of the BBC, introduced us to a remarkable and inspirational character. For all his flamboyance and brashness, there was real substance to the man. He recognised that talent, ability, is not enough. Hard work, perseverance in adversity, willpower and determination are essential if you wish to bridge that gap between promise and performance. On Prize Day, Sunday 28th May President of the Union, David Coen (Class of 1986) presented Books, Certificates and Medals to over 150 students, from 2nd through to 6th Year as we celebrated not just academic and artistic performance but also recognised and affirmed leadership, service, care of our community, faithfulness and spirit. Every boy can aspire to Prize Day. It should be your son’s ambition to ‘Be There’. The first steps are taken ‘behind the lines’, unnoticed, unheralded. It starts with presenting for school on time, in uniform with your homework done. It continues with engagement - at Oliver Twisted, our Junior Musical, on Sports & Family Day, in the Soccer Leagues, at the Summer Concert, at your Retreat; in Transition Year it is a matter of supporting Greenwatch, participating in the Master Chef, being on the Camino or at Work Experience.

RaboDirect PRO12 : PREVIEW 2012/13 Round 20: 12th & 13th April 2013 ROUND 20 PREVIEWS With just three rounds left in the RaboDirect PRO12, and therefore only a maximum of 15 match points left to play for, the competition for a top four finish will intensify over the final weeks. Leaders Glasgow Warriors face a tough trip to Llanelli on Friday to play Scarlets as their hosts are themselves vying for a top four finish, so both teams will be determined to come away with the points. Following their impressive victory at the RDS, second placed Ulster now face a home game against Newport Gwent Dragons to keep up their RaboDirect PRO12 challenge. Ulster will be looking to catch up with leaders Glasgow who they trail by just one point. Leinster are the third team challenging for one of just two home Play-Off spots, and they have the formidable task of taking on interprovincial rivals Munster at Thomond Park on Saturday. However the visitors will be buoyed by the fact they came away with the points on their last visit. Also on Saturday the remaining team in the Play-Off zone, Ospreys, welcome Benetton Treviso to the Liberty Stadium. The Italians may not have won at the venue, but are on a three match winning streak, so Ospreys will have their work cut out to make sure they keep ahead of Scarlets in the table.
