Classic rock standouts Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs will perform in Muriel Kauffman Theatre on Saturday, June 17. Both musicians made their names as members of legendary rock groups and have since enjoyed successful solo careers. McDonald sang with Steely Dan and was a member of The Doobie Brothers. Scaggs spent time as lead singer for the Steve Miller Band. Tickets for the event range from $59 to $139, and go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Friday, March 24. Folk and country singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter will be joined by special guest Sarah Jarosz on Wednesday, July 26 in Muriel Kauffman Theatre. Carpenter is a five-time GRAMMY Award-winner and Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee. Jarosz took home this year’s GRAMMY awards for Best American Roots Performance and Best Folk Album. Tickets for the event range from $29 to $69, and go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Friday, March 24. Six contemporary country musicians to perform in a Concert for a Landmine Free World Dec. 4 at UCSD November 12, 1999 Media Contact: Ruth Baily at University Events, (858) 534-0497, [email protected] or Jan Jennings, (858) 822-1684, [email protected] SIX CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY MUSICIANS TO PERFORM IN A CONCERT FOR A LANDMINE FREE WORLD DEC. 4 AT UCSD Six contemporary country singer/songwriter/musicians will entertain in a Concert for a Landmine Free World at 8 p.m. Dec. 4 in Mandeville Auditorium at the University of California, San Diego. The performers include Emmylou Harris, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. In addition to providing a lively evening of country music, the purpose of the concert is to alert the public to Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation's (VVAF) Campaign for a Landmine Free World and build public awareness to the damage caused by landmines. "The landmine is an issue of peacetime," says singer/songwriter Emmylou Harris, who has visited a rehabilitation center in Cambodia. "Even though it's a weapon of war, it impacts people who are trying to live in peace. There will never be peace in a country like Cambodia or Angola or Afghanistan as long as there are landmines, because the people ... don't have the freedom to walk their homeland." Proceeds from the Dec. 4 concert will go toward the VVAF's Campaign for a Landmine Free World. Harris is a Grammy Award-winning artist who has numerous gold records and Top Ten hits and has released more than 25 albums.

SERMON: “A LIFETIME BURNING IN EVERY MOMENT” Based on Part V of “East Coker” by T.S. Eliot By Dr. John Tamilio III The First Unitarian Church of St. Louis Sunday, September 27, 2015 © 2015, Dr. Tamilio I bring you greetings from the members and friends of the United Church of Christ in Canton, Massachusetts, where I serve as their Pastor, and from my colleagues at Salem State University, Endicott College, and Andover Newton Theological School where I serve as an assistant professor of philosophy, theology, and literature. I also bring words of deepest gratitude from the T.S. Eliot Society for your generosity in hosting the Sunday program that is part of our annual meeting. It is an honor to preach at the spiritual home of the young T.S. Eliot — and that of his father (Henry Ware Eliot) and his grandfather and founder (William Greenleaf Eliot) before him. It is also strange and a bit liberating to be preaching in a Unitarian Universalist Church. It’s a bit of a guilty pleasure, I must confess. As you may know, we in the United Church of Christ (the UCC) are often referred to as “Unitarians Considering Christ.” This is much better than the name that inevitably arises when someone misspells the word “united” and we become “The Untied Church of Christ.” While my theology is a bit more “traditional” than most UCC pastors, my deep affinity for anything Eliot makes us sisters and brothers of a different mother. In my tradition, the “readings” for worship always come from Scripture: the Hebrew Bible as well as the New Testament.
