Chopin Year 2010 coincides with the 60th anniversary of Daniel Barenboim’s stage début, and as a pianist he has decided to devote this year to the great Romantic master of the keyboard. Chopin was born on 1 March 1810 in a small village near Warsaw, and on the eve of the 200th anniversary of this date Barenboim gave this wildly acclaimed Warsaw recital as part of an extensive European tour. The programme included some of the composer’s best-known works, including the great B flat minor Sonata with its famous Funeral March, which sounded to many as the composer may well have magined it. Cage, aspects of John Cage. M. Cunnigham, R. Rauschenberg

Performances including 4‘33“ by D. Tudor; by S. Schleiermacher and Schlagquartett “This film is a brilliant, intimate tribute to one of the most influential Köln artists of the 20th century. It is evident that the filmmakers (49:25 min) succeeded in revealing the curiosity, the humour and ultimately the humanity of John Cage. It has the ability to make avant-garde Subtitles concepts accessible and attractive to a broader audience.” Deutsch Jury Golden Prague Festival 2012 English “No one has ever been able to speak for Cage as well as he could Français for himself. An excellent way to discover this is in the new 日本語 documentary ‘John Cage: Journeys in Sound’ made for German 한국어 television by Allan Miller and Paul Smaczny. It looks and sounds brilliant on Blu-ray.” Los Angeles Times
