That's why I'm kind of torn on the direction the book is going.SPOILERSIn the original series, Cypher, whose power was to understand and communicate in every language, was killed on the island of the Ani-Mator (think Dr. Moreau's Island). He was recently revived in the events of the storyline Necrosha. Suffice to say, he has been having trouble dealing with his death and resurrection. To help him cope, the team goes back to the island and end up under the attack of a biological virus and quartined on the island.While it is nice having Warlock and Cypher back, I wish more of the original team were in this series (no Cannonball, Karma, or Wolfsbane). A depowered X-Man added to the team doesn't add much for me either. It is interesting how Cypher's powers have been expanded, but I still feel only have interested in the events of the series.2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. WellsCollecting: New Mutants #38-41The New Mutants return to the site of their teammate's trauma--an island occupied by the evil force of the Ani-Mator. In order to succeed, Doug will have look death in the eye. Fortunately the New Mutants comic highlights friendships, and no friendship is a close as the one one between Doug and Warlock. This episode re-writes Doug's character to allow him to work better in the action (a very welcome development). Future books that include Doug and Warlock will be able to feature a funny and powerful relationship.This volume of the New Mutants continues with Journey Into Mystery/New Mutants: Exiled and concludes with New Mutants Volume 7: Fight the Future0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Collects New Mutants (2009) #38-41.The New Mutants return to the scene of Cypher's death, only to confront a familiar evil reanimated into a terrifying new form of horror! Now, trapped on an island consumed by a super virus, the New Mutants fall one by one - and begin to change.
