Apogee’s next generation Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) service created specifically for your campus. Stream2 integrates both entertainment and university social media, videos and flyers to create an all-in-one, engaging experience. This unique service not only speaks to the way today’s students live and consume content but also drives student success and engagement. The service requires no in-room equipment or set top boxes making the switch to this new service cost-effective and simple to implement. Students can access the IPTV service and all the content and programming it offers through a university branded app, at any time, on a variety of Wi-Fi connected devices. This document will outline the technical specifications of all aspects of Stream2 in detail. Copyright © 2016 Apogee | 512-478-8858 | [email protected] | www.apogee.us | 2 2 STREAM2 TECHNOLOGY SUMMARY The Stream2 technology is highly advanced yet built on a simple foundation. First, we ingest programming over satellite. Unlike hardware only solutions, Apogee has the relationship with the content providers making this truly an end-to-end service. Initially, the live TV feed is passed to our video encoders. These encoders, which are managed remotely through our software-based management tool, converts the live RF feeds into an encoded stream. This stream is then ingested into the server which packages and delivers the content. In addition, this server is where Digital Rights Management (DRM), Emergency Alert Systems (EAS), nPVR (Network Personal Video Recording – DVR), storage, caching, and local insertion occurs. Once the video is packaged, it is delivered using Adaptive Bitrate to ensure an optimized stream which reduces network bandwidth consumption. Subscribers can access all of this content through the branded Stream2 app exclusively on the university network on a multitude of supported devices. 3 IPTV ENCODING 3.1 Overview Apogee’s Stream2 encoding server provides real-time video and audio encoding as well as live streaming to new media platforms. The platform is a software-based solution that performs simultaneous processing of multiple video outputs, delivering the high quality, high-efficiency performance required for formatting live video for any device. It has been designed to integrate seamlessly into an end-to-end real-time video delivery workflow for higher education and continues to evolve based on feedback from our partners. Copyright © 2016 Apogee | 512-478-8858 | [email protected] | www.apogee.us | 3 3.2 Performance Stream2 delivers video via Apple HLS (Http Live Stream), Adobe Primetime (HDS and RTMP), Microsoft Smooth Streaming, MPEG-DASH or transport streams. Additionally, we create mezzanine deliverables for wrapping with a separate packager to reduce network bandwidth consumption. 3.3 Flexible Deployment Stream2 is built using a Linux-based software through an intuitive web interface or REST/XML APIs for quick and simple integration in a turnkey, cloud-based or virtualized deployment. Unified control and management reduces setup time, simplifies maintenance tasks and allows Apogee to manage everything remotely. 3.4 Software-Defined Architecture Apogee has laid the foundation for future video requirements. Stream2 is highly upgradable and provides adherence to regulations such as the CALM Act and rules for IP closed captioning. As content quality improves, we can deploy a seamless transition to new standards such as HEVC and Ultra HD, and ongoing improvements to features, functionality and quality with each new software release. 3.5 Secure Encoding Apogee ensures the university has legal access to all content. Content is protected using traditional AES and SAMPLE-AES for HLS, PlayReady for HLS and Smooth Streaming, or Adobe Access for HDS. 3.6 Technical Specifications 3.6.1 Video & Audio Inputs Video Codecs Audio Apple ProRes 422 (up to HQ) AAC AVC / H.264 (Baseline, Main, High) AC-3 (Dolby Digital) HEVC / H.265 Dolby-E MPEG-2 (4:2:0, 4:2:2) E-AC-3 (Dolby Digital Plus) VC-1 (Simple, Main Advanced) MPEG-1

SCIENCE, MATHEMATICS & COMPUTING DIVISION senior projects spring 2021 Ultrasonic Pollution: A New Kind of Noise Pollution Cillian Ahearn Advisor: Bruce Robertson All organisms use verbal communication to gain information about their surroundings, in order to hunt, feed their chicks, and call or warn one another. This communication is increasingly masked by anthropogenic noise pollution, but that might not be the only type of noise pollution to exist. Recently, there has been a rise into the research of organisms that use ultrasound, but virtually none into anthropogenic ultrasound and whether or not it has the possibility to mask ultrasonic vocalizations. As such, my study hopes to fill in this gap of knowledge by doing an exploratory study in a city, Hartford, CT, where I identified sources of man-made ultrasound, as well as their frequency ranges. These ranges were then compared against ultrasonic vocalizations of mice, Richardson’s ground squirrels, and tomato plants. My study found that the more narrow a biological frequency range is, the more at risk it is to be fully masked. This implicates ultrasound as a potential new source of noise pollution that should be mitigated as part of conservation efforts to preserve the environment. Road to a Resilient Financial Sector: Impacts of the Dodd-Frank Act on Systemic Risk Muhammad Ali Advisors: Steven Simon & Guatam Sethi The U.S. financial sector has been plagued by crises in the last few decades. The Dodd-Frank Act was the most substantial set of reforms in recent history aimed at making the financial sector more resilient and stable than before.
