Harvest Stand Ministries is a Zeeland based organization dedicated to providing support and resources to those in need in our commu- nity. Through generous donations and strong faith we have been able to be a beacon of light for over 20 years and serve basic assis- tance needs to 494 families. Dave Rozema Played his first game on April 11, 1977 and his Last on April 30, 1986. As a 20-year old, Rozema had an excellent rookie season for the Detroit Tigers in 1977, when he won 15 games and finished in the top five in the league in ERA. He later served as a spot starter and reliever on the 1984 champions. Raised on the West side of Grand Rapids, he was popular with fans in his home state from the moment he took the mound for his first Major League game.

The big righty tossed 16 complete games as a rookie, giving Detroit the top rookie in both '76 () and '77. In that rookie season, Rozema finished 8th in voting. He pitched just as well in 1978 but got poor run support and his record fell to 9-12. He still completed 11 games and tossed two shutouts in his sophomore season. The following year he suffered the first of many nagging arm trou- bles and pitched in only 16 games. It's been speculated that his high innings pitched totals at the ages of 20 and 21 (427+ in those two years) contributed to the burnout in his arm.

On the mound Rozema was known best for his excellent changeup. He utilized great arm action to keep batters off balance with the pitch, and even though his fastball rare- ly hit 90 MPH, the effectiveness of his changeup was his best weapon. He exhibited great control, walking about two batters per nine innings over the course of his 10-year career.

Rozema is often summoned back to the West Side where he grew up and can be seen frequently at Fifth Third Ball- park where he has done everything from watch young players develop their skills or to help oversee Fantasy Camps for many who always dreamed about being a Ma- jor Leaguer themselves. Whitecaps Baseball’s Co-Founder Dennis Baxter commented about Rozema “There is no better Ambassador for our organization coming from the Former Players groups. Dave is someone who will create laughter and everlasting memories for our fans and our sponsors.
