Introduction to Kalamunda Eastern Suns

The Kalamunda Eastern Suns is a State Basketball League (SBL) & Western Australian Basketball League (WABL) club based in Lesmurdie.

The club fields a team in both the Men's SBL (MSBL) and Women's SBL (WSBL) and also fields teams in WABL from U/12s through to U/20 men.

The club is a division of Kalamunda & Districts Basketball Association (KDBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the City of Kalamunda.

The Kalamunda Eastern Suns play their home games at Ray Owen Sports Centre, a 6 court stadium which is a shared facility with other sporting codes.

SBL games are played predominantly on Friday & Saturday nights and WABL games are played on Sundays.

The SBL playing season runs from March to September with WABL commencing in April and also finishing in September.

The club is run by a committee of volunteers, elected at the AGM held in September each year. Meetings are held once a month through the season. Contact details for Committee members are included in this pack.

Grading carnivals have no door charges and entry is free for spectators and players.

Training Courts

Training courts are at a premium and we constantly struggle to accommodate our Eastern Suns SBL & WABL teams on the 3 and a half days we have use of the stadium. We must also accommodate our domestic competition and development programs so some teams may have to train off site, share courts or train outside of desirable hours.

We also have to try and accommodate Coaches and their availability with their own work commitments so scheduling courts to suit everyone is not possible. If you know of any courts Suns may be able to use, please get in touch we would love to hear your suggestions.

Player Uniforms

Players must wear the correct Kalamunda Eastern Suns Uniform to training and WABL games once they have been selected to a team.

All Suns players must wear the club uniform for training:

 Eastern Suns Black Shorts  Eastern Suns Reversible

All Suns players must wear the club uniform for WABL games:

 Eastern Suns Orange Playing Shorts  Eastern Suns W/Up Top

The WABL playing uniform should only be worn to WABL games, not to domestic games.

Insurance

During WABL games, first aid or medical assistance can be obtained by contacting the Court Controller at any WABL stadium.

There will be a qualified first aid person available during all WABL home games at Ray Owen Stadium.

If an accident or injury occurs during training at Ray Owen then please report to the games controller who can assist you.

For any instances where the Court Controller or games controller is not available, there is an injury report form in the Appendix that can be quickly filled out by the Team Manager and kept in case of a claim being made.

Inform parents to contact you if they will not be at training or a game so you can let the Coach know. 10. Hand out Basketball tops to players before the start of their game. Ensure players are ticked off on the laptop prior to the game and their playing numbers are correctly recorded. 12. Organize a roster of parents to score. For parents who have not scored before, they can look at the stadium scoring information sheet attached or on the BWA website- they can also ask for assistance from the other team scorer. 13. Stadium Scoring

Stadium scoring technology has been in use for WABL since 2014 and will be used in all WABL games throughout the competition in 2018.

The innovative scoring solution means games are scored using a laptop rather than a score sheet.

BWA have developed a User Guide and Cheat Sheet specifically for WABL and recommend all involved familiarize yourself with these items.

The Guides are available at: http://kalamundabasketball.com.au/2016/04/wabl-stadium-scoring-user-guides/
