Terms Stick Handling- individual control of the ball/ puck while moving. Slap Shot- a shot in hockey that is made with a swinging stroke. It can only be used with teacher’s permission. Wrist Shot- a quick short-range shot in hockey made while the puck is against the blade of the stick by snapping the blade quickly forward. Most effective way to shoot. Crease Area- ball/ puck cannot be played in the area. Penalty- Any infraction or violation of rules. Goalie- Player assigned to stop shot on goal. Offense- Team in possession of the ball/ puck trying to score. Open Space- An area of playing field away from defensive players. Marking- Defensive strategies to impede offensive progress. Usually man to man coverage. Face off- Start of game and re-start after a goal. Passing- Moving ball/ puck between offensive players. Defense- Team without possession trying to prevent the offense from scoring. Slot- Space in front of the goal, most offensive location for the scoring team.
Strategies- Defensive Defensive players should play the ball rather than the offensive rather than the offensive players stick or body. Use the sidelines when playing the ball/ puck out of the defensive zone.
Strategies- Offensive Move to open space to spread the defense. Get a player to the slot and attempt to get the ball/ puck to that location for a scoring opportunity.
Rules & Procedures Safety No high sticking. Carry the hockey stick at waist level or below and play under control. Keep the ball below your waist. Avoid dangerous passes. No slashing, checking, and keep a firm grip on the hockey stick. 1

Game Play This is not ice hockey; no checking is allowed (Play the ball!) Two defensive players and the goalie must stay in the defensive zone. Two defensive players must stay on the offensive zone. Players should not pass (dangerous pass) or play (high sticking) the puck or ball above a player’s knees. On a free pass or position, the defense should be at least 6 feet away. For safety, sideline players may not sit down or interfere with play. For safety, if there is a problem in any corner, one team will be awarded a free pass from the corner and the other team should back up. For safety, if the goal tender controls the puck and passes it to the side of the goal, a defensive player will get a free pass from that spot. For safety, a player may not leave his feet (slide) to block shots or passes. For safety, sideline players should block the puck back into play after it crosses the sideline. At the start of a new shift, the team that is behind will get the puck for a center pass. A penalty shot will be awarded for major rule infractions. A free position will be awarded for minor rule infractions. Unsportsmanlike conduct will send a player to the penalty box and his team must finish the shift shorthanded. A puck that goes under the wall will be awarded to the team that did not put it out of play. The goal tender cannot use his glove to hold or grab the puck outside of the goal crease. The goal tender can leave his crease and try to score. Line changes every 2 minutes Player cannot stand in crease to play defense. If the ball leaves the playing area, the other team gets the ball. No holding another players stick for more than one second. No lifting another players stick above their knees.
