2 Welcome to Seguin

A Message from Mayor Bruce Gibbon On behalf of Seguin Township Council, I welcome you to the 2017 Community Leisure Guide - a great community resource for upcoming programs and events, recreation & facility locations and contact information.

More people and businesses are coming to Seguin than ever before and we offer abundant recreational programs and activities to meet the needs of our growing community. The Township of Seguin offers rental space of gymnasiums, ice and arena floors, meeting rooms and seminar spaces, sports courts and ball diamonds, which are all conveniently located throughout the Township. Whether you like to spend your activity time indoors or out, there is lots of opportunity for you to get active in Seguin.

Our community will also host several annual special events this year including the long standing Rosseau & Foley Fall Fairs, Rosseau Regatta, Great Baked Potato Bash, Rosseau Classic Cruise, Rosseau Pumpkin Festival, and many many more. Regular programming is available in our community centres for seniors, Manager of Community Services adults, and youth and includes activities such as pickle ball, Dominique O’Brien shuffleboard, exercise classes, yoga, seniors cards, lacrosse, and ball (705) 732-4313 Ext. 262 hockey. Seguin Township will also be celebrating Canada’s 150th [email protected] birthday on June 30th at the Rosseau Waterfront with a fun evening for the family! Be sure to visit our online Calendar of Events for a Program Coordinator more detailed listing. JJ Blower (705) 732-4313 Ext.263 Whether it’s a colourful drive down our roads during the fall, a [email protected] spring bike or winter cross country ski adventure on one of our recreational trails, or a hot summer day at one of our beaches or community festivals, fairs or events, Seguin Township promises four seasons of fun and I encourage you to come back and visit us again very soon!

Yours truly, Bruce Gibbon, Mayor

www.seguin.ca 3 Welcome to McDougall

A Message from Mayor Dale Robinson

I challenge you to make 2017 the most enjoyable recreation activity year in history to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.

McDougall’s facilities are in great shape and just need you to show up to enjoy all year round. The McDougall Recreation Centre has natural ice available during the winter months. The pad is available the rest of the year for basketball, pickleball, shuffleboard or just a walk around on a rainy day.

Our many beaches are open to the public to enjoy informally at your leisure. The popular swim instruction programs continue at Nobel and Bell Lake beaches. Meadowcrest Beach is having a dock extension to better facilitate swimming at that new beach location.

The bicycle/walking trail has been rerouted and extended south along Acord Drive to the McDougall boundary for safety and scenic reasons. We are proud to be home to the Georgian Nordic Ski Club and applaud their efforts to expand from ski trails to bike trails. Deer Run Golf and Parry Sound Golf & Country are both open to the public to enjoy a round of golf.

Please enjoy all the activities outlined in this guide.

Respectfully, Dale Robinson Mayor Director of Parks & Recreation Brian Leduc [email protected] 5 Barager Blvd. McDougall, ON. P2A 2W9 (705)342-5252 www.mcdougall.ca

3 Museum Road, Seguin (off Hwy 141 & Clear Lake Road) Situated on beautifully landscaped grounds, the Humphrey School House Museum was built out of hand hewn logs in the early 1870s. Originally a Church, the building later became a rural one room School where many received their early education. Closed in 1956, students were relocated to Humphrey School at Sandy Plains. The school sat empty until 1973, when 6 students restored the building to its original state under a provincial grant program. The focus of the Humphrey Museum is to portray the life and times of yesteryear while paying tribute to the pioneer families who settled in this area. Visitors to the Museum will enjoy the focus on community history and can take in the natural environment that makes our region unique.
