SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Bentway is currently leading a long-term strategy for the Under-Gardiner Corridor, working with local stakeholders, residents, developers, and public officials to create a coordinated approach to public realm and mobility improvements along the length of the elevated Expressway (from to the DVP).

Reporting to the Co-Executive Director, Programming and Visitor Experience, the Corridor Plan Lead is responsible for the oversight and coordination of an Under-Gardiner Corridor Framework Plan – building on the success of The Bentway’s completed Phase 1 site and offering a major collaborative, civic opportunity to build new forms of public space. Key responsibilities include: strategic development, stakeholder coordination, multi-disciplinary consultant management, planning analysis and research and community consultation.

Deeply rooted in Toronto’s urban fabric, The Bentway is an organization of city animators who use a new public space located under the to test and demonstrate new ideas in public art, public infrastructure, and civic engagement. We are a non-profit charity that works closely with the City of Toronto, artists & creatives, and local communities to bring our programming to life.

INDIRECT REPORTS:

Planning Coordinator, Design Consultants

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Oversee a multidisciplinary design team to realize an under-Gardiner vision and ensure coordination between various consultants - Support project development, scope-setting, and project feasibility, collaboratively working with internal and external project teams, consultants and City agencies, as required - Support planning and policy analysis and background studies to map under-Gardiner context and identify mechanisms for the implementation of Corridor Plan recommendations - Work with the Communications department to oversee the development of a community consultation plan and support implementation and analysis - Manage and monitor project budget and schedule to ensure internal and external parameters and deadlines are met - Preparation of reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders - Organize meetings, prepare agendas, take minutes, and follow-up on action items to ensure project milestones are being met - Create communication processes and documents to ensure that all affected stakeholders are aware of planning process and recommendations - Provide coordination support to the Co-Executive Director and Manager of Planning and Design - Work with the Communications department to develop materials for website updates, newsletters, hand-outs, questionnaires - Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Post-secondary education in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, or equivalent experience - 5+ years of proven success in development, urban design, architecture, and project management for projects, or similar combination of education and experience - Strong project management, oral and written communication skills is required - Demonstrated ability to garner support for complex planning projects across internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, community groups and internal stakeholders - Ability to work independently, multi-task, solve problems, and collaborate with a variety of colleagues, as well as external vendors, contractors, designers, and partners at all levels - Ability to read architectural/construction drawings - Understanding of contracts and insurance - Ability to manage budgets and schedules - Ability to think creatively, conceive, and implement new ideas - Knowledge of AutoCAD, Sketch-Up and Adobe Creative Suite
