Battery A rechargeable battery used for heating up a vaporizing cannabis concentrate cartridge. Vape Batteries come in lots of styles and it is important to have one that will heat your cartridge at a proper temperature. Blunt A blunt is a cannabis joint wrapped in tobacco instead of a rolling paper. Created by either dumping out the tobacco of a store-bought cigar then reusing the tobacco wrap for crafting a cannabis joint or crafted using a pre-made blunt wrap. https://www.emeraldfamilyfarms.com/cannabis-basics-glossary/ 1/10 6/18/2019 Cannabis Basics - Glossary of Terms • Emerald Family Farms BHO Butane Hash Oil BHO, butane hash oil is made by pressure blasting cannabis owers with butane. The butane solvent causes THC to become soluble, resulting in a butane/THC mixture. Once the butane is evaporated, depending upon the starting material, apparatus used, and techniques applied during the process, the resulting concentrate product is a viscous and amber colored resin in the form of “sauce,” “crumble,” “wax,” or “shatter.” Bubble Hash A non-solvent based extraction method that utilizes ice-cold temperatures and micron screens to collect trichomes. Called Bubble Hash for its full melt qualities that cause the product to bubble and melt when exposed to ame. Cannabidiol Also known as CBD, is one of at least 113 different cannabinoids found in cannabis. Cannabidiol (CBD) is the second most abundant cannabinoid in the cannabis plant and is thought to have many potential therapeutic benets, including anti-inammatory, analgesic, anti-anxiety and seizure-suppressant properties. Cannabinoids A class of diverse chemical compounds found in cannabis that act on cannabinoid receptors in cells, causing the high or euphoric effect. THC is the best-known cannabinoid, because of its psychoactivity. Cannagars A cannabis cigar created by wrapping the cannabis with the fan leaves of the plant. Cartridge Also known as a ‘cart’, a cartridge is a container of cannabis concentrate that is designed to screw onto a battery on one end with a mouthpiece on the other. Cartridges of concentrate have grown in popularity, because of the convenience they offer the consumer. Closed Loop Extraction Most commonly referring to butane or propane extraction, closed-loop extraction is a chemical extraction process that recycles hydrocarbon solvent or CO2 in a closed system. Concentrate A concentrate is any type of cannabis product that is rened from owers into a more puried and potent form. A concentrate can refer to any form of hash (pressed hash or water hash), kief, or hash oil (CO2, BHO, shatter, budder, wax, crumble etc.…). https://www.emeraldfamilyfarms.com/cannabis-basics-glossary/ 2/10 6/18/2019 Cannabis Basics - Glossary of Terms • Emerald Family Farms Crumble A form of BHO concentrates with a crumbly granular consistency. Crystals Crystals, also known by their scientic name trichomes, are the part of the cannabis plant that contains the highest THC and CBD concentrations. Crystals or trichomes are what is collected together when making concentrates. Typically when looking at marijuana buds, the more crystals or trichomes you see, the more potent the product. Cultivars Cultivars or cultivated varieties are also known as strains in the world of cannabis. Dabs and Dabbing A dab is a term that refers to vaporizing a small quantity of highly potent concentrate, like BHO, Wax or Shatter. It’s considered “dabbing” when a dab is placed on a heated surface to produce a vapor which is then immediately inhaled. Dabber / Dab Tool A dabber is a long, pointy tool used to place a dab of concentrate (wax, shatter, BHO, etc.) to the heated surface of a dab rig. Dab Rig The term for a pipe or bong designed for controlled temperature vaporization of cannabis concentrates, also known as taking dabs. Decarboxylate Decarboxylation is the process of heating cannabis at a low temperature to transform “inactive” acid cannabinoids like THCA and CBDA into “active” THC and CBD. Most people decarboxylate their cannabis to get higher potency in products that are consumed orally, like edibles and tinctures. Diamonds The term Diamonds refers to the super potent crystalline structures of pure THCA that form in only the top quality, highly rened sauce extracts or isolates. THCA tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, is the non- psychoactive precursor of THC that’s activated by heat and combustion. Diamonds are created using techniques during the closed-loop extraction to highly rene the nished product using a multi-step process that removes impurities and creates pure cannabinoid crystalline. https://www.emeraldfamilyfarms.com/cannabis-basics-glossary/ 3/10 6/18/2019 Cannabis Basics - Glossary of Terms • Emerald Family Farms Dose The cannabis dosage is important. Doses to small, might not work the way you’d like them to. Doses, to large or too frequent over time, cause the body to develop a tolerance, requiring more product to produce the same effects. When it comes to edibles, concentrates and even ower it may be the best practice for beginners to experiment with nding the least amount required to achieve the desired result. Edibles Edibles are cannabis-infused food products that are eaten. Most commonly found in chocolate, gummies, lollipops and baked goods. E-nail An E-nail is an electronically controlled heating device for use in a dab rig (bong bowl piece), that allows the user to keep a consistent heat setting so as to always get the best tasting and potent hit. Full Melt Full Melt refers to a concentrate that melts, bubbles and runs from a ame or heat source. Hybrid The term Hybrid refers to a strain that is a combination of both Sativa and Indica characteristics. Hybrid strains are known to produce a blending of Indica and Sativa effects. Most strains are to some extent hybrid combinations of an Indica and Sativa parentage, yet are not considered a hybrid. The Sativa and or Indica dominant lineage is communicated in percentages. For Instance, it can be an Indica dominant strain that has a 95% Indica to 5% Sativa ratio or a balanced Hybrid strain with a 50% Sativa to 50% Indica ratio. Typically strains within the range of a 60/40 to 50/50 Sativa to Indica ratio are considered a Hybrid. https://www.emeraldfamilyfarms.com/cannabis-basics-glossary/ 4/10 6/18/2019 Cannabis Basics - Glossary of Terms • Emerald Family Farms Indica A Species of the Cannabis Genus. Indica dominant strains are known to produce sedating, physically relaxing effects. Infused A product that has been blended with cannabis. Most common cannabis-infused products are joints, edibles, tinctures, and drinks. Live Resin Live resin is a term used to describe concentrate derived from cannabis plants that are frozen fresh when harvested instead of dried. Fresh Freezing a plant immediately upon harvest preserves the full terpene prole, resulting in a concentrate with its full spectrum of avor, aroma, and potency. Nail A nail is one version of a heated bowl piece that is part of a Dab Rig (bong). Nails are often heated with a torch past their desired temperature and let to cool for a moment before placing a dab of concentrate on them to vaporize. Nug Run A term that explains to a consumer that only cannabis nugs or buds were used as the primary extraction material of a concentrate, versus the use of manicured trim or leaves. Psychoactivity Psychoactivity is the ability of a compound, such as THC or CBD, to alter mood, behavior or mental processes. Pull and Snap Refers to the particular consistency of some sticky concentrates that bond to themselves and everything else on contact yet releases cleanly from surfaces when a fast pulling motion snaps it free. Rosin A type of concentrate made using a combination of heat and pressure applied to Cannabis buds or trim that presses out the trichomes for collection. Sativa A Species of the Cannabis Genus. Sativa strains are known to produce a stimulating cerebral high. Sauce A form of BHO concentrates with a sauce-like consistency. https://www.emeraldfamilyfarms.com/cannabis-basics-glossary/ 5/10 6/18/2019 Cannabis Basics - Glossary of Terms • Emerald Family Farms Shatter A brittle, glass-like cannabis extract with a tendency to snap when handled. Shatter is named for its break-ability, like shattered glass, and is favored for its ease in handling while dabbing. Solvent / Solventless The terms Solvent and Solventless, describe the extraction methods used to create a concentrate. Bubble hash, rosin, and kief are examples of solventless concentrates whereas sauce, crumble, wax, and shatter are made with a BHO or CO2 solvent-based system. Strain The term “strain” refers to the cannabis plants particular variety, be it AK-47, Underdog OG, or Jack Herer. A strains lineage can be comprised of many different strains, all of which determine the unique aroma, avor, potency, and effect. THC THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the cannabinoid produced by cannabis that is responsible for its psychoactivity. Terpenes Terpenes are the organic chemicals (essential oils) produced by cannabis owers that denote the specic effects of THC and CBD of a specic strain. Terpenes also denote each strains specic avor and aroma prole. Trichomes Also referred to as crystals, trichomes are the part of the cannabis plant that contains the highest THC concentrations and what’s collected together when making concentrates. Typically when looking at cannabis buds, the more trichomes you see, the more potent the product. TWAX A TWAX joint is a concentrate infused pre-rolled joint.
