The Tony Warn Trophy on tour - Sue Dewar is currently taking it around the Clubs on the Coast before making its way back to the North of the County where I’ll be taking it out to RRSC, HART & WINCHESTER CITY PENGUINS. This gives the team members an opportunity for a Club photo.

STOP PRESS!!! 2 of our County’s Masters Clubs waiting lists in operation, but thanks to some very accommodating Head Coaches and Club Committees they have secured extra pool time so the lists are no more. Fantastic news as it shows there’s huge interest. The London 2012 legacy lives on.

● Sunday the 12th November 2017 - please save the date ● Hampshire will host the Inter County Master’s gala (South East Region) ● If you think you’d like to be a part of the team this year please ensure you compete at an Open Meet so your times appear on rankings. Ensure you enter our County Championships as well to give yourself more of a chance of being selected. ● As hosts we will require volunteers to assist in the smooth running of the event. I will start the search this summer. ● Martin Bennell & Spencer Turner will take over the team selection with my full support; I can’t expect them to manage the team on the day and swim so I be there to give them a hand.

2016 Basingstoke Bluefins

Karen Marchant - Rushmoor Royals Masters Discipline Secretary Hampshire ASA Contributions and feedback to the editor please: Mountbatten Sports Centre, Sunday 25th June 2017 Following the huge success of holding this event at this venue it has been possible to secure it again - however we will not have exclusive use of the 50m pool.

The public will use the 2nd pool. Due to the nature of the building’s design the public has no need to encroach onto the area we’ll be using so please don’t worry that they’ll affect the quality of the Competition. Locker space may well be tight though, so be prepared. There will also be limited space on poolside as there is a learn to swim group in the 2nd pool during our event so we won’t be able to spread ourselves the full length of the pool.

● PLEASE address all enquiries to the secretary in the first instance. ● It is strongly advised that any new Masters ensure they are registered with the ASA in good time. ● Under NO circumstances will we accept entries from athletes not registered in time. ● The closing date will NOT be extended. ● It is extremely unlikely that entries will close early due to a lack of capacity in the programme - please ask around your friends, they don’t have to be competitive swimmers,a number of the roles such as handing out medals can be done by enthusiastic volunteers.

All offers of help will be gratefully received.

It is a requirement for health and safety reasons to have a warm-up marshal on poolside keeping an eye on the warm-up. Ideally this would be a coach however it could be done by athletes competing. i.e a lady watches over the men’s warm-up and vice versa The medals and trophies will need to be collected from the supplier in Fareham - any offers please?

Matt Whittenham Volunteer required please

We will secure a full compliment of Officials to run an 8 lane event for both sessions. Masters Meets aren’t Licensed; however we always use Licensed Officials with the exception of some of the timekeepers to ensure the meet is run to the highest standards possible.

Catering - Mountbatten - so we don’t have to worry about this To hand out programmes between 11.45 & 12.30. These are included in the entry fee and there is no raffle so no money handled. Once this task has been done there’s no more to do.

On poolside from 13.30 for session 1 (including the break) On poolside from the start of session 2 until the end of the event

Drinks and sweets for the Officials during the event This could be done by the medals table if we have 2-3 volunteers To liaise between the recorders table and the medals table. Plus posting of the results on the poolside for the competitors Sunday 25th June 2017 Hampshire County ASA MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS MOUNTBATTEN 25m

AFTERNOON - 2 SESSIONS

These are all that are currently listed on the Masters Hub; however meets may well be added each week so please keep checking.

The Inter County Championships will move dates in 2017 to Sunday 12th November. I had a booking at Aldershot Garrison but it is Remembrance Sunday so needless to say I’ve cancelled the booking. Aldershot is ‘The Home of the British Army’ and there will be Church services and parades in the vicinity of the Sport Centre. It has been suggested that the gala start at 14.00 hrs but that would be seriously disadvantage our Channel Island athletes in that they’d be travelling back late in the evening plus the M25/M3 have the potential to be pretty horrible on Sunday evenings.

I have submitted a request to Hart Leisure Centre for a booking on the afternoon of Sunday the 12th November when we’re due to host the Inter County Event, I have heard back from the Management who will “let me know when they’ve decided on the pool programme”.

We will look at hiring a venue in the South of the County - after all our IOW and S Coast Athletes have had to undertake some seriously long journeys over the years.

● A request to hire Mountbatten has been submitted ● Waterlooville is another option - the relays are 4 x 50m so the depth at the shallow end doesn’t matter Royal Navy ASA

What a great turnout from Hampshire - and from what I’ve heard we provided a good number of Officials at the last minute; huge thanks to them.

The British Swimming Masters Decathlon

The British Swimming Masters Decathlon is a true test of versatility over the course of the season.

Swimmers’ performances from Masters competitions throughout the year are assigned points and each English, Scottish and Welsh swimmer is awarded an overall tally based on their top points scores from 10 of the 18 individual events.

There is no entry fee or registration required – all swims from Masters competitions in the British Swim- ming Masters Rankings database are automatically entered into the competition.

There is no age group split in the Masters Decathlon; instead points are adjusted depending on age to ensure a fair comparison.

Prizes are on offer for the top individual swimmers as well as the top club – click on the link below to find out more about the competition. http://www.swimming.org/masters/british-swimming-masters-decathlon/

How about a Hampshire Master’s Decathlon Champions? I think it’s a great idea I personally don’t have time to do it. http://www.fina.org/content/masters-records I have now produced a full set of records for both Long and Short Course: I will not be checking the rankings on the British swimming Website, it’s a lot of work; if you feel you’ve bettered a record then please send me your claim. There is no form to complete, please copy and paste the time you’re claiming off British Rankings and e-mail to me. I will then double check myself.

They are made by a swimmer, qualified at that time to swim in the Associations individual championships and registered in accordance with ASA Laws. b. In this case they must have competed for a Hampshire, (Isle of Wight and Channel Islands) Club. c. For a Senior Record the swimmers shall be aged 18-24 years on the 31st December (18 on the day of the swim). The date shall be stated at the time the claim is submitted. d.
