With new parks, businesses, schools, municipal O services and facilities, Marana remains a town on the move. That’s why those of us at the Chamber of Commerce chose “Marana 2.0” as the theme for this year’s directory. Our shared town has come a long way in the past couple of decades. Back in 2000, we had a little more than 13,000 people living here and were just a small place on the outskirts of, Tucson. Now, we have 45,000 residents and are proving to be the place to do business in Southern Arizona. The proof is everywhere. Large industries have presences here. Small, family- owned businesses make up the majority of our Chamber membership. Many restaurants have entered the Southern Arizona market by establishing locations in Marana the past several years. Much of that success is owed to a great partnership we have with Town of Marana government. Our friends with the Town are constantly working to attract commerce and many of those efforts are performed in concert with the Chamber. Our business walk has given Chamber and Town staff opportunities to meet the people who make our commercial sector thrive. The Chamber’s networking events are well-attended by business owners and Town Council, providing another good opportunity for valuable face-to-face interaction. Ed Stolmaker, IOM President/CEO of the Marana On a personal note, it’s been my pleasure to play a small role in Marana’s Chamber of Commerce success. As many of you know, I’m leaving as President/CEO after 15 years on EdStolmaker@ the job. I’ve been proud to serve the community’s business interests, watching MaranaChamber.com our membership almost triple in my time here. All that success is a direct result of hard work by Chamber staff and volunteers. Rebecca, Tammie and Sarah Marana Chamber of deserve a huge amount of credit for what they do to make the Chamber a Commerce Staff trusted partner for our community’s businesses. Rebecca Kososkie Executive Vice President, New President/CEO Audra Winters is ready to build on our solid foundation Membership & Business after serving as President/CEO of the Farmington Chamber in New Mexico Development RebeccaKososkie@ for almost six years. Audra is ready to take on the challenge: the Farmington MaranaChamber.com Chamber is similar in size to what we have in Marana and the community also Tammie McElroy has a proud agrarian history. This is familiar territory for her. Executive Assistant TammieMcElroy@ Audra will be an excellent leader of the organization and I encourage MaranaChamber.com everyone to support her in this journey. We have many great businesses large Sarah Bridges and small here in Marana and the Chamber remains strong in its commitment Administrative Assistant SarahBridges@ to be there when it’s needed most. MaranaChamber.com As always, please support the businesses listed in this guide when you’re looking General Inquiries Info@ for goods and services. As a Marana resident, you can rest assured I will be. From this same vantage point, I can see ahead to a year when local broadcasters’ optimism already has been lifted by the promised tailwinds of the advancement of next-gen television transmission standard ATSC 3.0 as well as further increases in the value of our content as represented by rising rates for the retransmission of our stations. At Scripps, 2017 also brings the promise of new leadership. After nearly 18 years as a member of the senior leadership team here at Scripps — including nine as CEO — I will retire from the role of president and CEO later this year, retaining the job of chairman of the board.

Although it’s been a few years since our club has had a newsletter, the name maintains continuity with the previous incarnation and also a sense of tradition. While David Johannsen Wayne Shields our Internet tools undoubtedly provide a necessary David Marlow David Tillman service and will continue to do so, after using these tools Ernest Mudd over the past 18 months, I felt something was missing. It finally occurred to me that while the RAClub Internet presence is indispensable, the club membership would benefit from a more intimate, more traditional way of receiving club information. I felt we needed one concise place where we could get a good overview of the members’ astronomical activities and provide some much- needed acknowledgement of their fine work. I wanted an electronic document that would serve as summary and an enduring historical record of our club’s activities. The StarGazer will become the first place prospective and new members can go to see the caliber and breadth of work we do on a quarterly basis.
