Financial Results Briefing Global Release, April 2018
Financial Results Briefing for Fiscal Year Ended March 2018 Thank you for making time to attend Nintendo’s financial briefing. I am Tatsumi Kimishima, President of Nintendo. Nintendo Co., Ltd. Mr. Furukawa, General Manager of the Corporate Financial Results Briefing Planning Department, has just presented our financial President and Representative Director results for this period. Tatsumi Kimishima I will now discuss our planned initiatives for the fiscal year ending March 2019. Firstly, Nintendo Labo has had the high expectation as a “very Nintendo” product since the original announcement in January this year, and as soon as it was launched, consumers have been posting photos and video of parents and children as they work together to assemble Global Release, April 2018 the cardboard pieces and then play with their completed Toy-Con, which were unimaginable in video games before. It has been on sale for only a week in Japan and the US, while sales in Europe will begin today, but the main purchasers of Nintendo Labo at launch are not the same as with typical video games, and they are mainly elementary school children and their fathers, as well as game players who like creative activities. We developed and will nurture Nintendo Labo as a product that is not constrained by the boundaries of conventional video games and can endear itself to a broader range of consumers. From the initial response, we have this solid feeling that we are off to a great start in that regard. Some Nintendo Titles Released Since the Start of the Year We began releasing Nintendo titles non-stop with the launch of Nintendo Switch, and kept the new-release buzz alive through the end of the year. -

Melee: An Interdisciplinary Esports Ethnography Abbie 'spoopy' Rappaport This work presents a qualitative analysis of the esports community that plays and watches Super Smash Bros. Melee (SSBM) , a platform-based fighting game released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2001. SSBM is unusual as an esport for the way that it is built on a grass-roots foundation shaped by players (rather than the game's developers) and is contingent on the continued use of residual media objects, specifically the CRT television, Nintendo GameCube and Wii console coupled with the restraints of analog signal processing. SSBM players show particular dedication to dominant community practices like strict tournament rules and settings, shared use of dialect/nomenclatures, mode of play and so on, which are derived from, embedded in, and reinforced by specific hardware and software objects. -

A Diphyletic Taxon?
Berliner paläobiologische Abhandlungen 10 181-192 Berlin 2009-11-11 Octobrachia - a diphyletic taxon? Dirk Fuchs Abstract: Until today, the phylogenetic origin of the Octopoda and the Cirroctopoda is poorly understood, since a gladius that unambiguously links the fin supports of the both groups is still unknown from the fossil record. The present article summarises previous ideas concerning the phylogenetic and morphogenetic origin of the Octobrachia. Besides a general introduction into the gladius morphology of some coleoid families, the author focuses on two families whose gladii are well known, but which have never been considered before as potential ancestors of the Octobrachia: the Muensterellidae and the Palaeololiginidae. The author finally proposes three different phylogenetic scenarios for the derivation of the Octopoda and Ciroctopoda: A) a monophyletic origin from muensterellids, B) a monophyletic origin from palaeololiginids and C) a diphyletic origin from muensterellids and palaeololiginids. -
