She is the editor of this 1999 edition of One Answer To Cancer. Bonnie has addressed the editing of this book with a desire to get truthful, correct, intelligent and honest answers to the multitude of questions that have gone unanswered during her 37 years of diligent study and work within the health seeking community. She has searched through all the collections of documents about the Kelley Metabolic Medicine’s Paradigm that she could find from Kansas, Texas, Washington, Pennsylvania, California, and Georgia and everywhere in-between to give you the answers you need and desire. Bonnie attacked this task with her whole being and, like the proverbial pit bull with lockjaw, would not let go until all your questions were adequately answered. *Preface* That which you are about to read may change your life forever. When I was 11 years old, my brother Scott was diagnosed with terminal cancer; he was 20 at the time. His story is unique because he was one of the 150,000 individuals lucky enough to find Dr. Kelley’s book, One Answer To Cancer, and one of the only 33,000 to actually go on the program. Today, in 1997, he is healthy, cancer-free and living in California with his wife and three children. Scott’s experience changed the lives of each member of our family. For me, the effect appeared when I was older. Around the age of 19, I began to experiment with various diets. I would cross-reference my overall sense of energy and my performances in running 10 kilometers to the diets I used, always allowing at least 90 days between any changes. What I found should come as no surprise to anyone: When I consumed a largely uncooked vegetarian diet,

Unconventional Cancer Treatments September 1990 OTA-H-405 NTIS order #PB91-104893 Recommended Citation: U.S. Congress, Office of Technology Assessment, Unconventional Cancer Treatments, OTA-H-405 (Washington, DC: U.S. Government Printing Office, September 1990). For sale by the Superintendent of Documents U.S. Government Printing OffIce, Washington, DC 20402-9325 (order form can be found in the back of this report) Foreword A diagnosis of cancer can transform abruptly the lives of patients and those around them, as individuals attempt to cope with the changed circumstances of their lives and the strong emotions evoked by the disease. While mainstream medicine can improve the prospects for long-term survival for about half of the approximately one million Americans diagnosed with cancer each year, the rest will die of their disease within a few years. There remains a degree of uncertainty and desperation associated with “facing the odds” in cancer treatment. To thousands of patients, mainstream medicine’s role in cancer treatment is not sufficient. Instead, they seek to supplement or supplant conventional cancer treatments with a variety of treatments that exist outside, at varying distances from, the bounds of mainstream medical research and practice. The range is broad—from supportive psychological approaches used as adjuncts to standard treatments, to a variety of practices that reject the norms of mainstream medical practice. To many patients, the attractiveness of such unconventional cancer treatments may stem in part from the acknowledged inadequacies of current medically-accepted treatments, and from the too frequent inattention of mainstream medical research and practice to the wider dimensions of a cancer patient’s concerns.

Spontaneous Remission of Cancer: Theories from Healers, Physicians, and Cancer Survivors By Kelly Ann Turner A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Social Welfare in the Graduate Division of the University of California, Berkeley Committee in Charge: Professor Lorraine Midanik, Chair Professor Andrew Scharlach Professor Joan Bloom Fall 2010 Spontaneous Remission of Cancer: Theories from Healers, Physicians, and Cancer Survivors © 2010, all rights reserved by Kelly Ann Turner Abstract Spontaneous Remission of Cancer: Theories from Healers, Physicians, and Cancer Survivors by Kelly Ann Turner Doctoral of Philosophy in Social Welfare University of California, Berkeley Professor Lorraine Midanik, Chair BACKGROUND: Spontaneous Remission (SR) of cancer is defined as “the disappearance, complete or incomplete, of cancer without medical treatment, or with treatment that is considered inadequate to produce the resulting disappearance of disease symptoms or tumor” (O’Regan, 1995, p. 2). PURPOSE: This study sought to answer two questions: 1) What causative theories do alternative healers, physicians, and SR survivors propose for SR?; and, 2) Do SR survivors have a strong Sense of Coherence (SOC)? METHODS: Healers and physicians from 11 countries (n1=50) and SR survivors (n2=20) were interviewed in-depth; 17 of the 20 cancer survivors also completed an SOC scale. RESULTS: Six treatments that may elicit SR emerged frequently among both SR and Healer/Physician subjects: 1) Deepening one’s spirituality; 2) Trusting in intuition regarding health decisions; 3) Releasing negative and/or repressed emotions; 4) Feeling love/joy/happiness; 5) Changing one’s diet; and, 6) Taking herbal/vitamin supplements.

Complementary and Alternative Cancer Therapies REVIEW Complementary and Alternative Cancer Therapies: Past, Present and the Future Scenario Yogeshwer Shukla1* , Sanjoy Kumar Pal2 Abstract Use of complementary and alternative therapies is widespread among cancer patients. Throughout the world cancer patients try many questionable or unproven treatment methods. The reasons for adopting these therapies are complex and are related to the social and cultural contexts of their geographical locations. In case of severe illness, the desire to leave no stone unturned is a powerful motivator. In developing countries, ignorance, socioeconomics, and inadequate access to mainstream medical facilities are major factors that play an important role for patients opting for alternative therapies that are replacements for mainstream treatment. Whereas in developed countries a significant proportion of cancer patients try complementary therapies as adjuncts to mainstream care for management of symptoms and to improve quality of life. Many alternative therapies, including pharmacological and biological treatments, remain highly controversial but at the same time are very popular. Evidence from randomized trial supports the value of hypnosis for cancer pain and nausea; relaxation therapy and massage for anxiety; and acupuncture for nausea. This article reviews the different popular alternative cancer therapies practiced in India and neighboring south east Asian countries to project the current international scenario on complementary and alternative cancer therapies. Key words: Alternative therapies - motivation - social and cultural context - hypnosis - massage - acupuncture Asian Pacific J Cancer Prev, 5, 3-14 Introduction are used together with mainstream care for management of symptoms and to improve quality of life (Vickers and Cancer patients throughout the world use questionable Cassileth, 2001).

  • Nicholas Gonzalez Treatment for Cancer: Gland Extracts, Coffee Enemas, Vitamin Megadoses, and Diets
Nicholas Gonzalez Treatment for Cancer: Gland Extracts, Coffee Enemas, Vitamin Megadoses, and Diets Saul Green, Ph.D. Nicholas Gonzalez, MD, has developed a treatment for cancer that is a duplication of one devised by William Donald Kelley, a dentist from Grapevine, Texas [1,2]. Gonzalez heard about Kelley's methods from a friend, and during his second year in medical school, he visited Kelley in Texas [3]. Gonzalez learned the details of Kelley's cancer treatments by reading patients' charts in which were recorded diagnoses, treatment regimens, and various anecdotes. Gonzalez continued his observations intermittently for five more years, wrote up his findings, but did not publish them. The Kelley Treatment The Kelley treatment, as outlined in his Newsletter on Cancer Remedies [4], is based on a belief in a relationship between diet and "detoxification" with coffee enemas as outlined by Max Gerson, MD [5,6]. According to Kelley, all cancers are one disease caused by a deficiency of protein digestive enzymes, which allows cancer cells to grow. Kelley explained that because this cause of cancer is so clear and simple, it is ignored by the medical establishment [7]. He offered this explanation: The direct cause of cancer according to our research, is the changing of an ectopic germ cell into an ectopic trophoblast cell. An excess of female hormones brings about this change. Both men and women have sex hormones and when the delicate male- female sex hormone balance is upset, a cancer starts. Thus cancer is the growth of normal tissue, i.e. basic germ cells, in the wrong place.

  • Enzyme Therapy and Cancer by Nicholas Gonzalez, M.D
Enzyme Therapy and Cancer By Nicholas Gonzalez, M.D. The embryologist Dr. John Beard proposed in 1906 that pancreatic proteolytic digestive enzymes represent the body's main defense against cancer, and that enzyme therapy would be useful as a treatment for all types of cancer. (1) Particularly during the first two decades of the twentieth century, Dr. Beard's thesis attracted some attention in academic circles, and several case reports in the medical literature documented tumor regression and even remission in terminal cancer patients treated with proteolytic enzymes. (2-6) In 1911, Dr. Beard published a monograph entitled The Enzyme Therapy of Cancer and Its Scientific Basis, which summarized his therapy and the supporting evidence. (7) In my book The Trophoblast and the Origins of Cancer (co- authored with my colleague Dr. Linda L. Isaacs), I review Dr. Beard's work from the perspective of contemporary molecular biology. After Dr. Beard's death in 1923, the enzyme therapy was largely forgotten. Periodically, other practitioners have rediscovered Dr. Beard's work, and used pancreatic proteolytic enzymes as an alternative cancer treatment. (8) Dr. Beard believed the enzymes had to be injected, to prevent destruction by hydrochloric acid in the stomach. However, recent evidence demonstrates that orally ingested pancreatic proteolytic enzymes are acid-stable (9), pass intact into the small intestine, and are absorbed through the intestinal mucosa into the blood stream as part of an enteropancreatic recycling process. (10,11) I began researching the use of oral pancreatic proteolytic enzyme therapy as a treatment for cancer after completion of my second year at Cornell University Medical College in 1981.
