Although the NSW RTA has been very busy in recent times upgrading the road to better suit the amount of traffic, there are still portions that require the rider to keep an extra eye out for danger and to be wary of all the impatient car drivers. With this on my mind I tend to settle into a comfortable speed, and ride to the condition of the road.
Before long, the highway takes me through Milton and Ulladulla and now it is beginning to feel like I am getting away from the sprawling rooftops. For me, this is where the south coast really begins.
This portion of the road is good, with regular overtaking lanes and a few sets of great corners, which can be taken safely at a reasonable speed.
As I mentioned, my first stop heading south is only about a hundred kilometres into the trip, but I always have to be careful that I do not miss it! You see, there is this great long, sweeping, right hand corner that seems to go for ever, followed immediately by a long left hand sweeper that straightens out and then turns into a se- ries of small, fast corners that always gets my blood going, and entices Jenny the dog to move forward on the tank a bit and lean eagerly into the bends.
After a couple of minutes of this, the road offers another long left hand sweeper that nearly takes me straight past the great East Lynne Pie Shop.

For those of you that know this road, it is always very tempting at this point, to open the throttle and power down the straight in search of the next corner, but this is a bikestop that should not be missed.
The pie shop is on the western side of the highway, is surrounded by gum trees, and to the uninitiated, it might look just like any of the sleepy country fuel stops that are along this part of the highway.
The East Lynne bikestop has the best pies that I have ever tasted (sorry mum!) and late last year they were deservedly voted the 3rd best pies in the country. The coffee is excellent, and there is a great place under the trees to stretch out on the grass to enjoy it all.

The last time I was there filling up with fuel, Colin came out from the shop and told me that my taillight was out. He promptly went back inside and got a handful of bulbs and a couple of screwdrivers AND a coffee for me, and sat on the gravel and changed the bulb, chatting all the time, asking about my bike and the days ride. I hold a Senior First Aid Certificate and thought that a lot of the day would be spent going over what I had already covered in the past. The fact that a large part of the day was motorcycle oriented and covered areas not dealt with in normal first aid courses made the day extremely worthwhile, so if you think you know first aid you may be surprised by what you don't know about motorcycle accidents and how to deal with them. It is really pleasing to see how active our country mem- bers are as well. Over half our membership is based outside of the main CBD of Sydney. Port Macquarie have a very active ride calendar and both Newcastle and the south coast mob enjoy regular monthly social sips and many day rides. We are a NSW wide club and one based on touring – what better excuse could there be for a ride somewhere.

We recently had a weekend away to Nundle for a Xmas The start of the days ride was great with no rain to mar in July( any excuse for weekend away). 9 bikes started the trip. My apologies to all those other people who sent in ride reports and technical bits and pieces, that simply could not fit in this issue. These bits have been filed away so that I fill in gaps as they arise in future issues.

1985 BMW K100 RS (dark blue). I imported it directly to Sydney in 1989 when I emigrated here and It complies fully and was last registered in 2003 and not again since then. It is in excellent condition and I have all the papers (including the original purchase invoice) and has only done about 11,000 kms since new. It requires the care, attention and love of a keen collector as whilst it is in excellent condition it does have a flat battery and would (I believe) require a full service - new oil, plugs etc - in order to get it back on the road. The BMW Touring Club of NSW was founded in 1965, with an initial membership of 15 and we celebrated our 35th anniversary in October 2000. The aim of the club is to provide a social medium for BMW riders and motorcycle touring. It is not necessary for you to own a BMW motorcycle to join the club. There are a wide range of activities throughout the year, ranging from regular day rides, rallies (local, interstate and other BMW club rallies), runs with interstate BMW clubs and camping weekends. We have gained a large number of trophies from our attendance at rallies. The club also has regular maintenance days (where you can tap into a vast range of knowledge from our members). We have spare parts available at a slight discount for members and a variety of special tools for use when servicing, repairing or replacing components. We also have social evenings, an annual presentation night/dinner and a Christmas party. The club encourages family involvement in all events.
