Jack Reynolds: Jack Reynolds: "Hi again, everybody. The Capitol Wrestling Corporation presents the International Wrestling Association featuring the superstars of professional wrestling. This is Jack Reynolds at ringside with the Man from the Alamo, Big Tex McKenzie from beautiful Secaucus, New Jersey! We welcome now the SPW Heavyweight Champion, Bret “The Hitman” Hart” Bret Hart: “I hear the IWA has some of the hottest wrestling talent in the world! I am here to scout the matches for myself. And next week, when I defend my belt against one of the IWA superstars, I will prove once again, that I am the Best there was, the best there is and the best there ever will be!” 1) SPW United States Champion, Pat Patterson (San Francisco, California) w/The Grand Wizard of Wrestling vs. Pete Sanchez (New York City) Patterson makes a rare appearance back in the IWA as he defends his belt all over the world. His championship is not on the line tonight. He points over at Bret Hart at the announce position and mimes he wants a shot as his belt too. Sanchez scores the first move with a hiplock, but Patterson fires back with a forearm uppercut and a flying kneedrop. Patterson misses a second kneedrop and Sanchez turns the momentum with a cannonball leap: 1..2.. kickout! A clearly rattled Patterson asks the Ref for a time out. As Sanchez is distracted talking to the Ref, Patterson hits a leaping dropkick and covers with a pull of the trunks: 1..2..3! *** Winner by pinfall in 6 minutes: Pat Patterson! Patterson ignores the crowd boos and holds up his belt again challenging Bret Hart. Hart begins getting out of his chair and Patterson makes his way to the back, smiling. 2) The Fantastics Tommy Rogers/Bobby Fulton (Los Angeles, California) vs Baron Mikel Scicluna (The Isle of Malta) /The Unpredictable Johnny Rodz (Brooklyn, New York) The Fantastics make their first IWA appearance against the veteran team of Scicluna and Rodz. Tommy hits repeated dropkicks on Scicluna and Bobby takes the Baron over with an arm drag takedown. The Baron rams Bobby into the turnbuckle and tags in Rodz who comes off the second rope with a fist sledge. Bobby hits a leaping kneedrop and hurls Tommy into Rodz with a rocket launcher: 1..2.. kickout! The Fantastics hit a double back body drop on Rodz. Tommy dropkicks Scicluna out of the ring as Bobby makes the cover on Rodz: 1..2..3! *** Winners by pinfall in 30 minutes: The Fantastics! An impressive debut by the Fantastics. Tommie Rogers: “Dude! The IWA has a pretty solid tag team division, but now that we’re here, we’re gonna show the fans what we can do!” Bobby Fulton: “Shine up the belts, Boys!” 3) Mil Mascaras (Mexico City, Mexico) vs. The Iron Sheik w/Freddie Blassie The Iron Shiek goes for a Persian crab, but Mascaras reverses into an abdominal stretch. The Shiek barely makes it to the ropes for a break. Mil hits a flying bodypress, but Sheik kicks out. Mascaras goes to the well once more with another flying body press, but this time Mascaras is caught as the Iron Shiek locks on the Arabian backbreaker. Mascaras does not submit and ultimately powers out. Mascaras hits a flying headscissors. The Iron Shiek kicks him in the gut with the pointed boot and straps on a Persian crab. Mascaras struggles to break the hold, but finally does. Mascaras takes the Shiek by surprise and cradles him: 1..2.. kickout! The bell rings. *** No Contest – Time Limit Draw Neither man is happy with the outcome. The war has just begun. 4) Wahoo McDaniel (Midland, Texas) vs. Spiros Arion (Athens, Greece) At Arion straps on the Greek backbreaker. Wahoo reverses into the Apache backbreaker. Arion grabs the ropes to break the hold. Wahoo hammers Arion with a Tomahawk chop. Arion fires back with a body slam. Arion hits an atomic kneedrop and Wahoo scoops a leg and transitions into an Indian leglock. Again Arion goes to the ropes. Arion hits Wahoo with a boot to the gut and again goes for the Greek backbreaker. Wahoo powers out and hits a Tomahawk chop. The action spills out onto the arena floor and the Ref counts: 1..2..3..4..5..6..7..8..9..10! *** No Contest: Double Countout Draw! 5) Thunderbolt Patterson (Atlanta, Georgia)/Rufus R. Jones (St. Louis, Missouri)/Dusty Rhodes (Austin, Texas) vs. The Executioners (Parts Unknown) w/Captain Lou Albano /Outlaw Ron Bass (Pampa, Texas) All six men begin brawling once the bell sounds. Executioner 1 slams Thunderbolt to the mat. Rufus headbutts Executioner 2. Bass takes Dusty over with a Longhorn snapmare. As the Ref tries to restore order, Rufus tosses Bass to the crowd. As Bass climbs back in, Rufus hits him with a shoulder block into Thunderbolt who plants the Texan with a fireman carry takedown: 1..2.. kickout! The Executioners double-team Dusty, clotheslining him out of the ring. Executioner 1 punishes Thunderbolt with a neck claw as Executioner 2 stomps away on Rufus. Dusty rolls back into the ring and hammers both Executioners and Bass with Bionic elbows. Thunderbolt Patterson takes Bass over with a fireman carry takedown: 1..2..3! *** Winners by pinfall in 19 minutes: Thunderbolt Patterson/Rufus R. Jones/Dusty Rhodes! The masked man who attacked Dusty last week appears from the crowd and clobbers Rhodes from behind with a steel chair before blending back into the crowd. Dusty, now cut open and bleeding, his face a crimson mask, is helped to his feet by his tag partners. Who is this masked man and why has he targeted the American Dream? 6) IWA Champion Bob Backlund (Princeton, Minnesota) vs. The Great Muta (The Land of the Rising Sun) w/The Grand Wizard of Wrestling Referee is (Dick Wohrle) (+0) ===== In the 1st minute of the match: ===== Bob Backlund rolled OC. Great Muta rolled OC. Bob Backlund executes a ATOMIC SPINE CRUSHER.... Bob Backlund scores 9 points. Great Muta executes a KICK TO GROIN.... Great Muta scores 9 points. ===== In the 2nd minute of the match: ===== Bob Backlund rolled OC. Great Muta rolled OC. Bob Backlund executes a CHICKEN WING.... Kill him! 2 He’s currently President of the USA, but a scant 10 years ago, Donald Trump stepped into the squared circle, facing off against WWE owner and quintessential heel Mr. McMahon3 in the “Battle of the Billionaires” (WrestleMania XXIII). The stakes were high. The loser would have his head shaved by the winner. (Spoiler alert: Trump won.) Both Trump and McMahon kept their suits on—oversized, with exceptionally long ties—in a way that made their heads appear to hover, disproportionately small, over their bulky (Trump) and bulked up (McMahon) bodies. As avatars of capitalist, patriarchal power, they left the heavy lifting to the gleamingly exposed, hypermasculinist bodies of their pro-wrestler surrogates. McMahon performed an expert heel turn: a craven villain, egging the audience to taunt him as a clueless, elitist frontman as he did the job of casting Trump as an (unlikely) babyface, the crowd’s champion. For his part, Trump seemed more mark than smart. Where McMahon and the other wrestlers were working around him, like ham actors in an outsized play, Trump was shooting the match: that is, not so much acting naturally as neglecting to act at all. He soaked up the cheers, stalked the ring, took a fall, threw a sucker punch, and claimed victory as if he (and he alone) had fought the good fight (WWE 2013b).

As both a popular and historically racially problematic venue, WWE’s politically incorrect programming has played an underappreciated and under examined role in representing the USA. Although 4 many different groups have been portrayed by gross stereotypes in WWE, this paper uses the family of Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson—the Samoan Dynasty—as a case study. The WWE originally presented Pacific Islanders using the most offensive stereotypes, and the first two generations of the Samoan Dynasty had to “play Indian” or cosign onto gross representations of their people to be recognized by American audiences unfamiliar with representations of Pacific Islanders.

Not many people know this, but I’ve always considered myself an artist of sorts. Ever since I was a young kid, I invariably find myself passing the time by doodling, drawing, and, on occasion, even painting. In the space between my paper and pencil, and in those moments when inspiration would strike, my imagination would run amok and these bigger-than-life personas - football players and comic book characters and, of course, professional wrestlers - would come to life. I wasn’t aware of this until much later, but for all those years my mother would quietly steal away my drawings, saving them for all prosperity, and perhaps giving her a way to relive all of those memories of me as a child. That’s exactly what happened to me when she showed me those old sketches of Iron Man and Walter Payton and Fred Flintstone and Hulk Hogan. I found myself instantly transported back to a time where things were simpler and characters were real and the art was pure. I get a lot of really similar feelings when I look at the incredible art that Rob Schamberger has shared with 2 foreward us all. Rob’s passion for art and for professional wrestling struck me immediately as someone that has equally grown to love and appreciate both, and by Adam Pearce truth be told I am extremely jealous of his talents.
