He enjoyed his best year ever in 2006, which was highlighted when he set the American 110m hurdles record on July 11 with his time of 12.90 seconds in Lausanne, Switzerland. His performance bettered the previous standard of 12.92 set by National Track & Field Hall of Famer Roger Kingdom in Zurich on August 16, 1989, and equaled twice in 1996 by Allen Johnson, who won the Olympic gold medal that summer in Atlanta. His performance was the second-fastest in the world in 2006. (China’s Liu Xiang set the world record in the same race) Mr Arnold's previous career best was 13.02 seconds from 2005. In 2006 season he came to an unexpected end when he got a muscle strain on his back that left him with no choice but to withdraw from the World Cup in Athens that he had been preparing for. Mr Arnold had a strong year in 2005, highlighted by his runner-up finish at the USA Outdoor Championships in a new personal best time of 13.01 seconds, and his fourth-place finish at the World Outdoor Championships, which confirmed his status as one of the world's best 110m hurdlers. He ran only briefly during the 2003 & 2004 seasons, competing in a total of four major meets. In 2001 he was ranked as high as 7 in the world by Track and Field News (T&FN) before he was a relatively unknown journeyman before winning the 2000 Millrose Games, where he beat Allen Johnson and Mark Crear, the 1996 Olympic gold and silver medalists. In just one race, Mr Arnold went from obscurity to a possible contender for the U.S. Olympic Team. In the Olympic Trials final, he whacked the fourth hurdle, stumbled over 5 and stopped at 6, ending his chance for the Olympic Team. Away from the track, Mr Arnold is a serious artist who prefers to draw cartoons and paint what he refers to as 'jungle art,' drawing before each of his races. In high school, he earned two varsity letters in three years as a receiver on the football team named to all-city team. His only year in track was as a senior he claimed three school records and lettered as a hurdler. .
