2025 ANCA PLAN

Introduction

We are the Adrien Niyonshuti Cycling Academy and proud educators of young cyclists in Rwanda. Adrien was the first Rwandan professional cyclist and now willing to help the youngsters in his country to give them the opportunity he was given, like riding at the Olympics in 2012. Therefore he started the Academy and over the last six years we have helped dozens of kids to enjoy and perform in cycling at every level. This plan describes how we want to get to the next level of training our future generation of cyclists in Rwanda. “I achieved much in the cycling world because someone somewhere gave me a helping hand.” Adrien Niyonshuti

Our Vision 2025

The ANCA is committed to raise the future generation of Rwandan cyclists. We want to educate riders, both girls and boys, so they will be able to compete at the highest level in Rwanda and abroad. And to help them to grow to the continental level of cycling in five years with our team. In 2025 we will have girls and boys from our academy competing in the UCI World Championships which hopefully will be held in our country. In five years we will grow from an academy of 10 riders now to 25 riders in 25. “25 in 25!” The academy will be self sufficient in five years by building our cycling tourism company that creates employment for our (former) riders. The revenues of tourism will be used directly for the academy, as its own circle of life.

Our core values Teamwork, discipline sportsmanship, enjoyment

About us

In 2012 Adrien Niyonshuti became the first Rwandan Cyclist to qualify and compete for his country in the . Adrien’s story captured the hearts of Rwandans at home and abroad as a symbol of pride and hope for a new Rwanda.

His personal story was magnified by the fact he had lost 60 of his family members including six of his brothers in the 1994 genocide. His journey, along with his teammates from Team Rwanda, into the world of professional cycling, was documented in the award-winning 2012 documentary Rising From Ashes.

Soon after the 2012 Olympic Games Adrien immediately felt he wanted to offer the chance for young people in his country to experience the power of cycling. He tried to instill hope and values to the next generations.

The Academy idea was born, and the first location chosen was Adrien's hometown of Rwamagana. Along with support from the Rwandan Cycling Federation, Team Rwanda and the Rising from Ashes Foundation the academy officially launched in August 2013.

DONATION

We are always looking for different kinds of help like donations and a helping hand. Your donation can help to provide a brighter future for a young Rwandan. Be it to put food on the table, to buy a new bike, or to pay for a rider's health insurance; all donations make a huge difference.

The money you invest in these young people will allow them to grow and develop; to create new opportunities for themselves and their communities, so future generations will have the structures in place to provide for themselves.

A little money can go a long way:

$10 can provide a rider with three nutritious meals a day.

$50 can buy a rider a helmet, keeping them safe while they ride.

$100 can provide a week's worth of clean drinking water for the riders.

GET INVOLVED

We are always in need of a helping hand. That help can come in the form of a donation, a fundraising event you would like us to be a part of, or you fancy coming out to Rwanda and getting your hands dirty!

Below are just a couple of ways to get involved, but don't hesitate to contact us to express an interest.

You can volunteer at the Rwamagana academy. If you have any skills which you think may be helpful, contact us to discuss opportunities. Teachers, nutritionists, mechanics, cyclists, physiotherapists, hard workers; anyone is welcome if they are keen to further the project! All volunteers will go through a screening process.

The project would not be able to function without your donations. Donate money, clothes, teaching equipment, cycling equipment, or anything that you think could be of use to the students and us! Even the smallest donation can go a long way to improving a child's life.
