Double the entry of under 30 month old finished cattle this week with few premium types on offer. Trade holding firm but decreased a little from recent weeks in line with the deadweight trend but Truro’s averages way ahead of other regional centres this week. Leading the day were a pair of Limousin x heifers from Messrs. F.T. & F.M. Johns of Cury topping at 206p/kg, the heavier 694kg heifer at 200p/kg making top money at £1,388, both bought by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station. Steers to the same top price of £1,388 for a 719kg South Devon x from Messrs. E.A. & A.R. Thomas of Sevenmilestone selling to R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow. Some nice native steers from Mr. R.G. Thomas of Feock saw a Sussex x setting the premium at 195p/kg to Harvey Bros. Butchers of St. Ives, & .

A similar number of cull cows this week also seeing a slight reduction in prices with particular demand for the large framed heavy sorts. Beef cows topped at 143p/kg and £1,067 for a 746kg British Blue x cow from for Messrs. R.J. & E.J. Hemmings of Lanlivery purchased by David Ellis of Lelant. Friesians even dearer with a 704kg cow from Messrs. B.L. Hearn & Partners of Whitecross topping at 156p/kg and £1,098 to David Ellis. The bull averages, which included four young Jerseys, were led by a Limousin making 134p/kg and £1,219 for Messrs. R.G, E.J. & G.A. Williams of St. Martin to David King.

A super run of Limousin cattle on behalf of Messrs. R.A. & L.M. Berry of Constantine saw heifers topping at 213p/kg to David King of Exeter; and premium steer selling at 209p/kg to R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow. Overall top value was a big 672kg Aberdeen Angus x heifer from Messrs. A.A. & D.P. Eddy of St. Erth realising £1,243 to David King. Three over-age all from Messrs. Berry saw a grand 762kg steer just over 30 months selling well at 195p/kg and £1,486 to David King.

An excellent early Autumn entry containing mainly beef x dairy young cattle and several named-sire Aberdeen Angus x and Hereford x steers and heifers. Top prices of the day came from a lovely such run from Mr. J.D. Phillips of St. Buryan of 27 steers and heifers from 14 months old down, with four Aberdeen Angus x steers taking the top spot at £1,095, and leading Angus heifer pair at £995. At the same age, a run of 22 Limousin x cattle on behalf of Mr. J.L. Sampson of St. Buryan saw his top steer trio at £1,020, and heifer trios to £950. A big run of 36 Hereford and Simmental sired youngsters from Mr. J. Santo of saw steers to £860 and heifers to £700. Two Charolais yearling steers for Messrs. H. Williams & Son of Tehidy making £770.

A good entry forward, which included some excellent consignments of well-finished lambs. Averages are back nationally on the week and the lean lambs were noticeably a more difficult trade. That said, prices generally very respectable and topping at £105.50 for a smart pen of 49.1kg lambs from Messrs. T.B. & M.B. Osborne of St. Eval purchased by R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow. This was closely followed by the best-pick of three pens of Charollais x lambs from Messrs. R. Gregor & Son of St. Mawgan selling at £103.50 to J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station. A quality run of four pens for Messrs. P.T.R. & P.E. Jones & Son of Crantock saw their premium 45kg lambs topping the averages at 221p/kg to R.J. Trevarthen Ltd.
