    SUMMER 2016 CAPE COD, MASSACHUSETTS freedom TO HAVE A ACTIVITIESGREAT TIME GUIDE Club Member News Summer 2015 2 3 3 History Samuel Mayo Nickerson and his wife Matilda built their Brewster summer residence on a bluff overlooking Cape Cod Bay in 1890. It included Fieldstone Hall, a carriage house, a 9-hole golf course, a stone tower used to generate electricity and private game preserve. The estate was occupied by their son Roland and his wife Addie. Socially and politically prominent, the Nickersons entertained frequently and lavishly. It was not uncommon for the social event of the year to be held at Fieldstone Hall. In 1906, Fieldstone Hall burned to the ground. Construction began a year later and the new Mansion was completed in 1912. It closely resembled an English country manor with an eclectic blend of Renaissance Revival and Gothic themes. One of the Mansion‘s most striking features is the intricately carved oak staircase leading to the second floor. In 1945, the Nickerson Mansion was sold to the La Salette religious order where it served as a seminary and college for men. In 1979, Corcoran Jennison purchased the Mansion, Carriage House and the 52- acre parcel to eventually develop what Resort Guests and Club Members now know as Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club. Today, the Mansion and Carriage House have been enhanced to befit their historic character; including period furnishings and appropriate finishes to newly restored wood. There is 21,000 square feet of function space throughout the resort, Cape Cod’s only Nicklaus Design Golf Course, three exquisite restaurants, 338 guest rooms, eleven tennis courts, private beach, and five pools.

Are you interested in helping to shape a young man’s career, possibly a professional baseball career? If so, you may be a perfect candidate to host a Danville Dans player this summer. The Dans are looking for host parents/families in the Danville area for the 2009 baseball season. This summer, approximately 25 young men will move to Danville to play for the Dans, a member of the Prospect League. From June 1 through Mid-August, these aspiring “professional” ballplayers have the opportunity to hone their baseball skills. Players come from all over the United States to play for the Dans. The Host Family Program has been a vital part of the Dan’s success the past 19 years, both on and off the field. Many of the players become more than just a houseguest; they become part of the family!! To Become A Host Family…..Here’s The Pitch !" Provide a home and meals for player during the season !"     Fort Myers Miracle will host the 2016 FSL All-Star Game All-Star Weekend in Fort Myers set for June 17-19 FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 25, 2015) - The Fort Myers Miracle are pleased to announce that the 2016 Florida State League All-Star Game will be hosted at the newly renovated Hammond Stadium at the CenturyLink Sports Complex. The 55th All-Star Game in league history will be played for a sixth time in Fort Myers since 1985 and will be put on by the Miracle for a fifth time. A three-day All-Star break will commence on Friday, June 17 and end on Sunday, June 19. The game will be played on Saturday, June 18 at 7:05 p.m. “We are thrilled to show off this state-of-the art facility after the renovations and upgrades that have improved the fan experience the last two seasons,” said Miracle Chief Operating Officer Steve Gliner. “This event will be a great opportunity not just for local fans, but also for guests from around Florida and the United States to come and experience Fort Myers, Hammond Stadium and the beautiful Southwest Florida region.” Hammond Stadium and the CenturyLink Sports Complex underwent a two-phase, $48.5 million dollar renovation that began during the fall of 2013 and was completed prior to Minnesota Twins Spring Training in the spring of 2015. Phase I included a brand new outfield boardwalk to provide 360-degree viewing, four different types of seating options, two full service bars and new concession stands in center field.
