4A VIEWPOINTS SUNDAY, FEB. 28, 2021 ON MY SOAPBOX BY JASON HENNINGTON Still learning

As we have in the past, this month we have tried to make sure the Taylor Press celebrates Black History Month. We have had features on the front page and throughout the paper the entire month. In the process, I’m still learning a lot of things about black history, not just in Taylor, but black history in general. Since I’ve been at the paper, I’ve learned about the O.L. Price state football teams. I recently learned more about Oliver Lewis Price himself and why the school was named after him. I learned a few years ago about my uncle Andrew James Chambers (Uncle Jr. to us), who had a song in the Hit Parade Review, a magazine that catered to music publishers only. His group, the Seniors, scored “Smash of the Week,” which was the highest honor a magazine could award. I thought maybe this was just a local thing, but no, the group released two songs nationwide. Those songs are “Who’s Gonna Know” and “It’s Been A Long Time.” I still have those songs on my Ipod to this STUFF ABOUT GOD AND CHRISTIANITY by Ron Braley day. I don’t have all the information about the Seniors or Uncle Jr.’s music career, but I’m still How to read the Bible, part I: Why?? continuing to research. Asylum Part II

Face to face with the child devil I began to ques- tion my own sanity. I felt as though I had been suspended in the cold and frozen for more than a week. Struggling once more I eventually became free of the straps that bound me and I fell to the cold damp floor. The child devil left me in silence, but I knew she would return. I tried to feel around in the dim lit area for any- thing only to find nothing. The more I felt around each move felt like the cutting of razors on my skin. I managed to make my way to my feet and every step I took sent a razor cutting sensation up my legs. I screamed out “Somebody help me,” but there was no response. I felt all over my body for cuts before calling out for help once again and then falling to the floor again. I heard the deep dark chuckle of laughter fol- lowed by the sinister giggling of the child devil as it returned. “Do you want leave this asylum,” the child devil asked. I did not answer at first, everything around me felt like a cold bitter hell more than an asylum. The child devil asked again with more aggrava- tion in its tone. With a raspy whisper I answered yes. “Then all you need to do is wake up and swear to not interfere with what I have made permanent ever again” it answered. I swallowed hard and I thought to myself, wake up, how was even asleep? I felt awake, all the pain and cold I was feeling made me feel awake. “I wont stop helping people, I can’t.” “Then you’ll rot here. Perhaps a little more time and few degrees colder will help change your mind.” The child devil again left and as soon as she did the room became colder.
