We wish you a safe journey home. The coming week sees pancake day on Tuesday and the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday. In school assemblies over the past few days I have been trying (and failing!) to perfect my technique for fipping pancakes, and refectng on why the traditon of pancakes emerged for ‘Mardi Gras’ (French for ‘fat Tuesday’), the day before the beginning of Lent (when we look forward to hostng Weymouth Town for the semi-fnal of the Dorset Senior Cup). The idea of pancake day/Shrove Tuesday was to use up the sweet ingredients that people would do without in the six and a half weeks before Easter. There’s a traditon of giving something up for Lent - for me this year it’s the fzzy drinks that I have too many of - you may have seen me consuming these on the line or in the bar! Going without things in Lent is for two reasons: frst, to remember the temptaton of Jesus in the desert, when He drew deeply from his well of knowledge of the Old Testament in resistng three big temptatons; and second to recall his willingness to do without even life itself by dying on the cross for the good of people like you and me. Giving things up for Lent is about much more than ditching bad habits. It’s about refectng on the changes that God wants to see in our lives. Over the weeks before Easter, coinciding with the end-of-season run-in, I hope you’ll take tme to consider some changes that would be in order, and then have the strength to put these into practce.

Wishing you God’s best,

He is an amazing manager………, except for when he backchats the referees! RTS. What was the best game you ever saw? Dom. This is a really hard queston, as I’ve seen loads of good games following Poole. I would say the best game I’ve seen was vs Spennymoor in the FA Vase, we were 0-2 down but ending up winning 3-2 with Super-sub Steve Smith infamously scoring a goal that came of his back-side! RTS. What was the best goal you’ve seen? Dom. Michael Charles vs Didcot. I remember it so well. He was subbed on for his frst appearance and with his frst touch of the game he chipped the goalkeeper, I remember that goal so vividly. We won 4-0 that night! RTS. What is your best memory? Dom. We signed him from Dorchester in January 2012 paying a four fgure fee for his services - something prety much unheard of these days. To say it has been money well spent is an understatement.

He has provided our supporters with so much pleasure over the years. As all Poole fans know Steve has torn a cruciate ligament %5($.)$67_/81&+_',11(5 - the injury all footballers dread due to its devastatng impact on life and one’s ability to work let alone playing football.

The club has authorised a crowd funding page for supporters to show Steve their support for him and his family at this very difcult tme.
