The resulting document, The North Northamptonshire Green Infrastructure Delivery Plan (NNGIDP), will provide a robust evidence base for both the current and review of the North Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy, and will ensure the delivery of appropriate green infrastructure alongside the growth required to achieve economic prosperity. 1.2 The Habitats Directive The UK is bound by the terms of the EC Birds and Habitats Directives, and the provisions of the directives have been transposed into national law through the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010 (the Habitats Regulations). Under the Regulations, it is a requirement that proposed plans or projects that are not directly linked to the management of a European site, but which may have a likely significant effect upon the site must be subject to an assessment of the impact (Appropriate Assessment). Sites collectively known as European sites include Special Protection Areas (SPA), candidate Special Areas of Conservation (cSAC) and Special Areas of Conservation (SAC). As a matter of policy, the Government has also chosen to apply the above requirements in respect of potential Special Protection Areas (pSPA) and Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar sites) even though these are not European sites as a matter of law.

    Wildlife Site Survey for North Northamptonshire Prepared by The Wildlife Trust BCNP December 2006 1 1. Executive Summary. The Wildlife Trust for Northamptonshire has been commissioned by North Northamptonshire JPU to review and update the County Wildlife Sites (CWS) schedule within the Authority Areas of Kettering, Wellingborough, Corby and East Northamptonshire in order to guide development proposals within the area and inform the production of the Local Development Framework. The current work has re-assessed all CWS and also a number of PWS within North Northants but outside of the Rockingham Forest area during the summers of 2005 and 2006. All CWS and PWS that matched or exceeded the revised criteria, and all CWS within the Rockingham Forest area (surveyed in the last 5 years) were included on the current County Wildlife Site register. 123 CWS covering 1757 ha were assessed and a total of 380 CWS now occur within North Northamptonshire and cover an area of 7761ha. It is therefore recommended that all CWS identified on the Mapinfo layer are included on the appropriate constraint maps in the Local Development Frameworks. 62 PWS covering 1214.6ha were assessed and over 400 sites are now highlighted as Potential Wildlife Sites in North Northants. We recommend that these sites highlighted as Potential Wildlife Sites (both red and blue boundaries) are included in the appropriate constraints map and recognised as opportunities for the delivery of Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity Action Plan targets. In total 52 CWS (398ha) were denotified to PWS. 37 of these were denotified due to lack of up- to-date survey information.

I am a Committee Member and the Treasurer of the Nene Valley Association (“the NVA”). I have lived at Thorpe Waterville for the past 15 years and have a good knowledge of the Nene Valley. I make this Statement in relation to the changes proposed to the above Plan proposed by the NVA. 2. The NVA was formed about ten years ago and its purpose is to seek to campaign on behalf of the residents of East Northamptonshire, by all lawful means, to seek to foster development in keeping with the existing unspoilt character of the River Nene Valley between Thrapston and Wansford. 3. The NVA consider that the Plan fails to acknowledge and/or give adequate protection to the existing rural character of the Nene Valley covered by the Plan and in particular the protection of its local character and landscape value. 4. The River Nene Valley The major centres of population between Thrapston and Wansford are to be found in towns and villages which follow the line of the River Nene. These settlements were created because of the good water supply to be found alongside the river, the power which could be developed from the river by way of watermills and the use of the river for transport.

    Northamptonshire Local Flood Risk Management Strategy Living Document – Interactive PDF Northamptonshire County Council October 2013 Northamptonshire Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS) (October 2013) Document Status All Lead Local Flood Authorities in England are required to develop, maintain, apply and monitor the application of a strategy for local flood risk in their area, which is consistent with the Environment Agency’s National Strategy. This is therefore a statutory document. In Northamptonshire, the County Council is the Lead Local Flood Authority. The Local Flood Risk Management Strategy is an important document that sets out the management of flood risk in Northamptonshire for the coming years. As part of its development all key partners have had the opportunity to comment on this strategy. Following full public consultation this strategy was reviewed, updated and finalised as a living document. Accompanying Documents The Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS) is accompanied by a number of separate documents, as follows: A non-technical Executive Summary of this strategy has been produced as an easy reference guide; The strategy is also subject to Strategic Environmental Assessment and Habitats Regulation Assessment, which have both been produced to support the strategy; An Equalities Impact Assessment has also been undertaken; and A Communication, Engagement and Consultation Strategy has also been developed to support the LFRMS and related flood and water management work..
