CAMP BRODIE 2018 CAMP BRODIE 2018 Traditional Camp Brodie For Children ages 5 - 12 June 25 - August 17, 2018 Camp Brodie offers a fun-filled traditional summer camp option for children ages 5-12. Our campers become part of a dynamic camp family where they can explore nature, their artistic and athletic abilities, interact with friends they know, as well as make new friends, all while escaping the ever growing technology age and rediscovering their inner child. Campers will participate in a variety of activities—art, field games, court games, hikes, canoeing, beach time, cooking, scavenger hunts, obstacle courses, lifeguard / beach games, minute to win it contests, and more! Each week there are different themes to keep camp fun and interactive, as well as field trips and special guests to experience. Tiny Tot Adventures invite our youngest campers to join the Camp Brodie family from 9am— 12pm. Our Tiny Tots will join in on the same fun as Traditional Camp Brodie, but with a slower, more nurturing pace that is just right for their young bodies. They will explore nature, their artistic and athletic abilities, and make new friends. Campers will participate in a variety of activities—art, field games, court games, hikes, beach time, and more! There will be a quiet play time each day in our Tiny Tots cabin to give them a break when needed. Tiny tots are still a part of our great themes each week to help keep camp fun and interactive. Parents and tots can stay if our special guest for the week arrives after camp is dismissed.

2 CAMP BRODIE 2018 Teen Camp @ Camp Brodie For Teens ages 13+ Our fledgling teen program was a success last year and we have more activities and more fun planned for the 2018 season! This camp is designed for our 13+ aged campers (entering grades 7th or higher) to get them out of the house, into nature & away from their “screens”. Days will be guided by the groups interests & will include longer hikes, canoeing, & larger scale art projects. Teens with a desire and passion in working with younger campers will be placed with the younger groups to be good role models and learn the duties and expectations of our counselors.

Special field trips different from our traditional camp trips have been scheduled with this age group in mind! Teens are welcome to participate in any field trips scheduled whether with the teen group, or traditional Camp Brodie. Teens wishing to sign up for a trip only may do so, but standard registration procedure and day rates apply in addition to the trip cost. Jurassic Brodie Week 1: June 25 - June 29 This week is going to be DINO-MITE! For one week only dinosaurs will walk the earth again! We will discover all sorts of ancient secrets when we go on a dinosaur egg hunt and make our own fossils. The art cabin will be full of supplies to create triceratops, stegosauruses, T-rexes, or any other kind of dinosaur! Make sure you join us to kick off the summer right!

Tuesday June 26th will be Dino Dress up day! Be creative this week and come in dressed as your favorite dinosaur. We will also be making dino hats/ masks in art the day before so everyone will have something to wear if they don’t already!

Welcome to the Jungle Week 3: July 9 - July 13 School is out and now it’s time to start Monkeying-around at camp! Each day will bring new and exciting jungle themed activities such as animal yoga and vine mazes! Campers will become jungle explorers by crafting their own binoculars to search for wildlife around the park!

Tuesday July 10th will be animal dress up day! Camp will be full of all sorts of lions and tigers and bears. (Oh my!) Make your own animal costume/ mask or just wear your favorite animal print clothing!

Campers will express their creativity making Dr. Seuss arts and crafts and much more!

Versus Week Week 5: July 23 - July 27 It's time to go head to head as teams of campers compete for victory! Throughout the week we will hold a series of competitions and ways for teams to earn points! From sand castle contests to scavenger hunts there will be plenty of opportunities to become champions! At the end of the week we will celebrate crossing the finish line with a party and a special surprise for the team with the most points!

Tuesday July 24th will be team color day! At the beginning of the week we will give out team colors and teams will get points based on how many members come to camp wearing them!

Field Trip - USA Ninja Challenge Special Guest - Summertime Sno-Balls Wednesday July 25 Friday, July 27

Specialized ninja training equipment will let us be ninjas for This Friday all of our competitors will get to celebrate their hard a day! Campers will take part in games and activities from a bunch of different dec- ades. This week we will be doing everything from chariot racing to Disco dancing! Get out your bell bottoms and hair picks it’s going to be a wild week!

Tuesday July 31st will be Decades Day! Put together an outfit that truly is a blast from the past! Tie dye and flower crowns are great ways to DIY this dress up day.

We will have all sorts of awesome experiments and campers will even be able to create their own galaxy slime! We will go on a quest around the park to find alien lifeforms and see what other fun stuff we can discover!

Tuesday August 7th will be Alien/ Crazy Hair day! Dress up as an alien or show off an out of this world hairstyle!

Brodie’s Got Talent Week 8: August 13 - August 17 Summer may be coming to an end but the camp fun is happening! Join us for our Big as we celebrate all the talented campers! This week is jam packed with all sorts of fun. Campers will participate in a lip sync battle and we will have an award ceremony celebrating all of our kindest campers and counselors! On Friday we will have our annual end of summer cookout with burgers, hot dogs, and our awesome special guest!

Tuesday August 14th is Future Career day! What do you want to be when you grow up? A doc- tor? A singer? A fireman? Dress up in an outfit that shows us what you dream to be one day!

Week 3: July 9 - July 13 Develop your game and a competitive edge with Coach Luke Nelson. This camp is designed for girls and boys going into 6th-8th grade looking to take their game up a notch. Skill building and strategies will be addressed, as well as proper warm up, cool down, and hydration/ nutrition. Special emphasis on your mental approach and preseason habits will be discussed that will give you that edge above other players. Each day will cover ball handling, core strength/balance, offensive skills, defensive skills, perimeter and post instruction and a small- sided and/or full court scrimmage every day. Held at the Brodie outdoor courts / Field House and in Registration limited to 18 players. For ages 11-13 Camp runs 8:30am-12pm

Paddleboard Camp

Week 4: July 16 - July 20 Learn about paddleboarding equipment, strokes, feet movement and stance with the Litchfield County Paddler. Safety awareness and dangers on the water will be discussed as well as what to do in an emergency. Meet at Berkshire Hall on Monday, and directly at Brodie Beach the remainder of the week. Additional waiver is required by the instructor on the first day of camp.

 Camp runs rain or shine. Times vary depending on the camp chosen. Drop off is no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the start of a camp, and pick up is no later than 15 minutes after the listed time. Additional fees will be applied if your child is in attendance beyond their registered time.

 Your child must be provided with a bag lunch (with an ice pack if necessary), snacks appropriate for the time they will be in attendance at camp and a water bottle. Bottles may be refilled with water at any time during the day.

 Please dress your child in his/her bathing suit with appropriate clothing over it. A change of clothing is recommended, along with a sweatshirt and hat.

 Campers MUST wear closed-toe shoes. Sneakers are recommended.

 Please apply sunscreen and bug spray prior to camp. Staff can not apply these to your child, but they may carry and self-apply as needed.

 Water activities & swimming will be a regular part of camp. Campers entering 4th grade and at least 9 years old will have the opportunity to take a “dock test”. If they pass it, they will be allowed to swim to the dock during camp swim time if they choose.

 Food may be served at camp as a part of our special activities. Please BE SURE you have allergies listed on your child’s registration and medical forms. If you don’t wish your child to participate in food activities, make sure you have clearly indicated specific instructions.

 Photos and videos of your child may be taken during camp. You agree to allow these to be used in publications unless otherwise noted.

 Unruly behavior on the part of your camper may result in removal from an activity, the group, or being sent to the camp office. Depending on the severity of the offense, you may be contacted for pickup.

 If your child requires any medications including an Epipen, you MUST contact the Camp Office (860) 379-3877. All medications and doctor signed authorizations MUST be given to the camp nurse for approval.

 A health form signed by a doctor must be provided or your child will not be allowed to attend camp. A camp health form is preferred, but a standard school medical form will also be accepted. Physicals must have taken place within the past 3 years.

I understand that there is a possibility that my child could sustain injuries while engaging in camp activities. In case of emergency where a family member cannot be reached, I authorize the attending Emergency Department physician to treat my child. I also understand that my own medical insurance will be used in the event of an emergency. I agree to hold harmless the town of New Hartford, the Park and Recreation Department, its officers, sponsors, agents, employees and anyone else associated with the program. For the safety and wellness of all campers, NHR reserves the unrestricted right to dismiss a camper whose conduct or influence, in the opinion of the Director, is detrimental to the best interests of the camp or other campers. There are no refunds if a camper is dismissed for this reason.
