Welcome to the third edition of Creative Support’s Service Progress Newsletter. The newsletter focuses on the work and progress relating to the Birmingham Hub and Spoke Recovery Day Services.

Heart of Birmingham Hub progress (Water Street)

The builders are busy working away at Water Street ready for our big move. The official launch date is 30th July and invites will be sent to all teams. Members will be able to come in before the 30th to become familiar with the service. Gemma and Janet at the Mill Street office have been busy working on all the furniture orders and some of the goods have started to be delivered. Sadagur Pawar who has been appointed Service Manager for the Heart of Birmingham Services has started to offer some social groups such as a Riley’s snooker group and a cinema club and will be working on a programme of activities and therapies to offer at the Water Street hub.

South Birmingham Hub progress (Northfield)

The South Birmingham Hub building is undergoing a change of use application and is not expected to be open until October approx. There are some successful groups running in the South though whilst we are waiting for the hub to open. There is an art group at Shenley Fields Health Centre 10.00am-1.00pm and a on a Wednesday 12.00-2.00pm we run a women’s social group at Stirchley Community Church. Service Manager Beverley Walker is currently talking to the church about holding a men’s group there and if anyone is interested in these groups or any others in the South of Birmingham please contact Beverly on 07964 125 654.

Public Transport routes to the hubs

Bus services to Water Street: ,7, 16, 16A, 46, 46S, 74, 75, 101 all stop opposite or adjacent to Water Street and are accessible from the City Centre.

Bus services to Northfield hub: 18,27,29,49,61,63

Road and Rail to Water Street:

Snow Hill train station and St Pauls Metro Station are all within walking distance of Water Street. Water Street is easily accessible by car from any of the approach routes to Birmingham, following the signs for the city centre and then St Pauls Square/ Quarter. Water Street is located off Ludgate Hill.

Road and Rail to Northfield Hub:

From Birmingham New Street or Snow Hill Stations please board any of the above buses from the City Centre or a train to Station.

Longbridge train station is approx 1.5 miles from the service and Northfield train station is approx 0.5 miles away. Local buses can be boarded which go along Bristol Road South.

Bristol Road South is accessible from any of the approach routes to Birmingham. Follow signs for the A38 and follow signs for Longbridge/Northfield. The service is located at the far end of the high street.

Staffing There was a great response to the advert we placed regarding sessional activity workers/leaders. All new staff have to attend a group interview and if successful attend an individual interview. The sessional workers/leaders will be responsible for arranging and delivering a range of therapeutic activities within the hub and spoke services across the heart and South of Birmingham.

Introducing Ann-Marie Snelson Ann-Marie Snelson has been newly appointed as our Graduate Development Officer. She will be based at the Heart of Birmingham hub in Water Street and will be working across all of our services. Amy Jones, the second Development Officer is expected to start within the next few weeks.
