I-264 Overpass at Portsmouth Boulevard Lane Closure Until April Blaine Street Road Closure Shea Street Closure Effingham Street Lane Closure

The Department of Engineering announces the following lane closure updates:

 Portsmouth Boulevard at the I-264 overpass lane closures will continue until April 9th, with one lane closed at-a-time during VDOT’s painting of the bridge overpass. Beginning Monday, February 22nd, the time of the lane closures will change to 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. daily until Monday, March 8th. VDOT’s updates to this schedule will be announced.

 Blaine Street between Dunkirk Street and Arthur Avenue will be closed through Saturday, February 20th, at 5 p.m. A signed detour is in place during sewer connection work.

 Shea Street between Bolling Road and Cherry Road will be closed until Tuesday, February 23rd, at 5 p.m. during utility connections. This is a 24-hour closure and a signed detour is in place.

 The outside southbound lane closure of Effingham Street between High Street and County Street will continue until Friday, February 26th, between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. This daily lane closure is during storm drain work.

US 58 East Midtown Tunnel: Alternating lane closures in the Midtown Tunnel eastbound on Sunday, February 21 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. US 58 West Midtown Tunnel: Alternating lane closures in the Midtown Tunnel westbound on Sunday, February 21 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. US 58 East Midtown Tunnel: Alternating lane closures in the Midtown Tunnel eastbound on Monday, February 22; Tuesday, February 23; Wednesday, February 24 and Thursday, February 25 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

I-264 East : Alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel eastbound on Sunday, February 21 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. I-264 West Downtown Tunnel: Alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel westbound on Sunday, February 21 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

I-264 East: Alternating lane closures on I-264 East between Frederick Blvd. and Effingham St. on Saturday, February 20 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. I-264 East: Left lane closure on I-264 East between Frederick Blvd. and Effingham St. on Sunday, February 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. I-264 West: Left lane closure on I-264 West between Effingham St. and Frederick Blvd. on Sunday, February 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

US 58 East: Left lane closure on US 58 East from London Blvd. to a half-mile before the Midtown Tunnel eastbound on Sunday, February 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. US 58 West: Left lane closure on US 58 West from a half-mile after the Midtown Tunnel westbound to London Blvd. on Sunday, February 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

NOTE: This list covers full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges and primary roads, and lane closures at the bridge- and the Berkley, Coleman, High Rise and bridges.

Western Freeway (Route 164), Portsmouth: Brief, intermittent slow rolls lasting up to 20 minutes each in both directions on the Western Freeway (Route 164) near Cedar Lane on Feb. 21 from 7 a.m. to noon.

Bridges & Tunnels:

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, I-64:  Single-lane closure westbound on Feb. 22 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Single-lane closures eastbound on Feb. 23-25 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

High Rise Bridge, I-64:  Slow rolls on I-64, lasting less than 10 minutes, in both directions from South (Route 13/460) to the on Feb. 19- 20 from midnight to 4 a.m.  A series of bridge test openings, lasting less than 20 minutes each, in both directions on Feb. 21 and Feb. 28 from 4-6 a.m.  Single-lane closure eastbound on Feb. 25 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

James River Bridge, Route 17:  Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures in both directions on Feb. 23-24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

George P. Coleman Bridge, Route 17:  Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures in both directions on Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Elizabeth River Tunnels (Downtown/Midtown Tunnels):  Go to Elizabeth River Tunnels for maintenance schedules on the Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (U.S. 58) and MLK Expressway (Route 164).

I-64 Widening Segment III Project, York County:  Single-lane closures on I-64 east and west from Route 199/Lightfoot (exit 234) to Route 199/Humelsine Parkway (exit 242) as needed Feb. 21-25 starting as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Lane closures under flagger control on Lakeshead Drive at the I-64 overpasses Feb. 22-26 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  A consecutive, long-term full ramp closure and diversion on the existing Route 199 west on-ramp to I-64 west in Lightfoot continues. Westbound traffic on Route 199 follow detour signage in place directing motorists to a new temporary median crossover to access the Route 199 east on-ramp to I-64 west during the closure.  A consecutive, long-term full ramp closure on Route 143/Merrimac Trail north to I-64 west continues. Traffic will follow detour signage in place directing motorists to the Route 143 south on-ramp to I-64 west during the closure.

I-64 Express Lanes, Norfolk:  Full closure of the I-64 Express Lanes in both directions on:  Feb. 20 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Feb. 22 from 9-11 a.m.  Feb. 22-24 from 8 p.m. to as late as 1 a.m.

I-64 / I-264 Improvements Project, Norfolk/Virginia Beach:  Single-lane closure on I-64 east at the I-264 interchange on Feb. 21-26 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Alternating, multi-lane closures in both directions of I-264 from Newtown Road (exit 15) to Witchduck Road (exit 16) on Feb. 21-27 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., with two or more lanes closed no earlier than 9 p.m.  Alternating, double-lane closures on I-264 west from Witchduck Road (exit 16) to Newtown Road (exit 15) beginning on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. through March 1 at 5 a.m.  Alternating, multi-lane closures on I-264 east from Newtown Road (exit 15) to Witchduck Road (exit 16) on Feb. 26-27, from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m., with two or more lanes closed no earlier than 10 p.m.  Ongoing, consecutive right shoulder closure on I-264 east at the overpass just before Witchduck Road (exit 16).

Other Notable Closures:
