Parent Club The AGM of Parent Club last week really highlighted what a successful year it has been for this group. On behalf of the College, I would really like to thank this group for the support they provide to the school and the open and honest discussions we have had over the year. Due to some legislative changes, Parent Club will run slightly differently next year with it most likely running as a subcommittee of the school council. This will mean that rather than having a President and Secretary the group will be chaired by a member of the College Council.

Family Fun Day Grade 5 and 6 have been working hard on a Family Fun Day to be held at the College on Friday 1st of December. Food and shopping stalls will be available from 1.00pm, whilst there will be range of activities and challenges for students to take part in. The event will come to a close by 3:30pm, at which time students may go home on their normal bus or with their parents. Initially the students worked on individual activities or fundraiser project proposals in an Inquiry Learning Task during English. Each student presented their ideas to the class. The class then decided which ideas they would like to explore further. This is when the class realised that they could make all of their ideas work together by having a 'fete' style event, allowing for nearly all of the ideas to be incorporated into a fun afternoon for the whole community to enjoy. It is recommended that students bring in $5 - $10 in small change on the day, as all activities will run at a small cost to cover the cost of hiring larger items. The class decided that this would be a good experience for all of the students in handling money and budgeting for their afternoon. Food and market stall sites will be provided free of charge and offer a selection of food and shopping opportunities at an additional cost. If you know of any stall holders who would like to join in, please encourage them to call the general office. The more involvement the better! YEAR P / 1 / 2 A: I am Student of the Week because I ask for help when I need it and I bounce back and have a go myself. When I am outside playing I include others. My favourite subject is PE. I like running the best.

In Maths I like playing games and doing activities. YEAR P / 1 / 2 B: I am Student of the Week because I bounce back when things get hard. I also care for others. I wrote a story called ‘Beetle’s Adventure’ and it is a little book. I’m drawing a picture on each page. I love reading and I read lots of books at home and at school. In Art I made a snowman out of clay and its name is Olaf. YEAR P / 1 / 2 B: I got Student of the Week because I was helping other people and finishing my work quickly. I have really liked this week because we are doing odd and even numbers. I learnt that if you put two even numbers together they make an even number. If you put two odd numbers together they still make an even number. If you put an even and odd number together they will make an odd number. I have really liked Music because I like to sing and play instruments. I like playing with my friends at lunch and recess. This weekend I am going to Melbourne to see my friend Bridget and my family. YEAR 3 / 4 A: I am Student of the Week because I was nice to people in the classroom. I was being thoughtful and helping my friends work in class. In Art we have been doing paper mache pumpkins, as a celebration for Halloween. School has been going well for me this semester. I am looking forward to the class party at the end of the year, and all the lollies that come with it. YEAR 3 / 4 B: I am Student of the Week because I was woking hard in Maths and English. At the moment I have been enjoying Maths. Time Table Olympics is my favourite Maths game. I am looking forward to going to Funfields on the weekend with my family and cousins. I hope the weather is perfect for us! SOMETHING I’M PROUD OF

MILO T20 Blast School Cup Cricket Was held for years 4-6 students in Ararat on Monday 13rd of November. Our cricketers were Hugh, Charlie, Robert, Riley, Oliver, Mita, Tom and Brodie. The basic rules are that in each game 4 pairs of batsmen each face 2 overs from the opposition and when fielding each player has 1 over of bowling and wicket keeping and 6 overs of fielding in the outfield. Lake Bolac played three games in the boys section beating and Ararat 800 (2) before losing to Ararat West. We finished 4th out of 8 teams and our 8 students performed really well in training and during the competition. It was unfortunate that Lachlan Veale had an injury and could not compete on the day but his efforts in training were equally as pleasing as the other participants. This was our first year in the competition and the boys had a great time learning all facets of the game and participating in competitive situations. Next year we hope to incorporate a girls team as well in the carnival. Congratulations to all our participating students on their combined effort and enthusiasm and to Charlie Leishman who also won the boys section of the “Cricketers Sprint” Thanks very much to Giselle who drove the bus and kindly bought the students food and to our student teacher Dylan Payne who scored in all of our games. We all commented how our students demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, team play and support for one another which they all should be very proud of. SCHOOL

Mentor Groups: The students and staff continued work on being an upstander last week and we have moved on to working on empathy. The whole school came together on Friday for mentor groups where being an upstander was reiterated by some short activities and a film clip which was shared on our Facebook page, Caught in the crowd by Kate Miller-Heike. This short film clip was something the students engaged with and had discussions about it afterwards. They discussed how it was the story of a student who could have been an upstander in school, although didn’t have the confidence to help and was unsure of how she could have helped. The students have been working on a number of ways to be an upstander in many situations. Qualities of an upstander selected by students are pictured above, Honest, Determined, Loving, Protective, Caring, Enthusiastic, Resilient and Supportive. Try this at home: Something to do at home regularly with your family is to practise gratitude. Practising gratitude can be done in many ways such as simply naming something you are grateful for each day, this can be done anytime of the day even more than once a day. Melbourne University Research: Thank you to all staff and students who are going to be participating in the research study with the Melbourne University .The Melbourne University have written the set of lessons called The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) program. This will be teaching young people about social and emotional learning and respectful relationships. This research will assist to tell Melbourne University how to help schools to deliver programs to students that support them in developing resilience and respectful relationships and to feel happy and confident. Reminder that the Respectful Relationships information session will be held on the 28th of November from 3:45- 4:45pm. If you are going to attend can you please let the office know by the 21st of November. Cydnee BRAIN | Wellbeing SCHOOL

Remembrance Day On November 11, last Saturday, Australians and many people around the world observed a minute silence at 11 o’clock. Remembrance Day marked the day, 99 years ago, that the armistice was signed between the Allies and Germany that ended World War One. In that war Australia lost 60,000 killed and over 150,000 wounded. During our morning assembly, on Monday, Brydy Atkinson and Madaline Phillips spoke to the students about the importance of remembering all the Australians who died fighting for their country. A minute of silence was then observed.

Music Concert Our Instrumental students and teachers invite parents and friends of the college to their Music Concert to be held on Tuesday 12 December in the Gallery area at 12.00pm. We look forward to seeing you then. SCHOOL

Every student placed either first or second in their events which was even more remarkable. As all our students placed in the first four they are now in training for the Greater Western Region Athletics. Good luck to you all! Unfortunately Hugh Geddes was absent from the competition as he was on a family holiday. He only missed out because there was a change of dates at Stawell caused by earlier inclement weather. His effort and dedication in training for the 1500m and Discus was equally as meritorious as the other five students. Thanks to all the parents who attended and to Louise Thom who was a great support as a Discus official.

The top two placegetters for each event qualify for the state finals so congratulations to Brodie and we wish him all the best on that day. Madaline only missed the state finals in the triple jump by 22cm, Isabella beat her personal best distance in the Discus by 1metre, Charlie jumped 18cm further in the long jump than his previous best, Tom ran a personal best in the 1500m by 12 seconds and missed the state final in the triple jump by an agonising 2cm and Brodie threw a personal best by over five metres in the Discus to make the state finals. These were fantastic efforts one and all and really demonstrate how well they trained over the winter months.
