The Red Raiders, who went into the half with 28 points tonight, previously scored 45 first-half points versus Stephen F. Austin, 34 against Arizona State, 35 against Louisiana Tech and 28 against Kansas. • Texas Tech’s 38 points tonight marked the most allowed by K-State this season. The Wildcats had previously allowed a season-high 26 points against Stanford to start the year which the Red Raiders eclipsed in the first half. • Texas Tech used 14 plays to score on its opening drive for the fourth time this season. The 14 plays marked the most on any scoring drive this season. • The Red Raider defense put together possibly its best stand of the game to start the second half, forcing the Wildcats to a 3-and-out. It marked the third time this season where Texas Tech has held its opponent scoreless on the opening drive of the second half. • Part of Texas Tech’s success offensively tonight came on third downs where the Red Raiders were 9-of-16 overall. Tech entered tonight’s game leading the Big 12 in third down conversion percentage. • Devin Lauderdale recovered an onside kick with five seconds to go, giving Tech one last shot at the win. It was Tech’s first successful onside recovery since 2014, at UTEP. MAHOMES HAS ANOTHER SOLID NIGHT LEADING RED RAIDER OFFENSE • Patrick Mahomes II had another great night leading the high-octane Red Raider offense as he finished 45-of-62 for 504 yards and two passing touchdowns. It marked the 17th time in Mahomes’ career where he passed for over 300 yards and the ninth time where he has surpassed the 400-yard mark. He has passed for over 400 yards in 4-of-5 games this season alone. He also surpassed the 500-yard mark for the third time in his career. • Mahomes snapped his career high for completions during the second half, with 45. His previous career high was 38 completions which was last set earlier this season at Arizona State. • In addition, Mahomes also set a new career high with three rushing touchdowns, all of which that came in the first half alone. Mahomes is the first Texas Tech quarterback to rush for three or more touchdowns in a game dating back to the start of the 2000 season. • Mahomes’ three rushing touchdowns give him seven now this season and 17 over his Red Raider career. His 17 career rushing touchdowns are tied with Robert Hall (1990-93) for third all-time among Texas Tech quarterbacks. He needs one more rushing touchdown to tie Ron Reeves (1978-81) for second all-time. Zebbie Lethridge holds the school record with 27 rushing touchdowns from 1994-97. • In the Texas Tech career record book, Mahomes moved into sole possession of third place for total offense, passing Seth Doege (2009-12) on the first possession. Mahomes now has 9,196 yards of total offense over his career, trailing only his head coach Kliff Kingsbury (1999-02) and Graham Harrell (2005-08). TEXAS TECH FOOTBALL TEXAS TECH at KANSAS STATE POSTGAME NOTES COUTEE RECORDS FIRST CAREER 100-YARD GAME BEFORE HALFTIME • Keke Coutee put together his best performance of his Red Raider career before Texas Tech even got to halftime as the sophomore caught four passes for 110 yards and a touchdown in the first half alone. His 130 yards for the game marked the first time in Coutee’s career where he reached the 100-yard receiving mark. • Coutee took a Patrick Mahomes II pass just five yards past the line of scrimmage and scampered right for a 61-yard touchdown to complete Texas Tech’s third drive of the night. It marked the longest reception of the season for Coutee, who now has three touchdown grabs in the last two games. • Coutee also made his first career punt return in the third quarter with a 14 yard return. NOTING THE RED RAIDERS • Michael Barden connected on his longest punt of the season to close the first half as he booted a 59-yarder to place K-State deep in its own territory. Barden averaged 52.0 yards on his two punts tonight. • Kisean Allen recorded a career-high six tackles to tie for the Red Raider lead defensively. His previous high was six catches set most recently against Louisiana Tech. • Clayton Hatfield connected on his fourth field goal of the season and the 18th of his career to tie the game with 5:17 remaining in the third quarter. Hatfield is now 18-of-21 on field goal attempts over his two-year career. • Devin Lauderdale put together possibly his best performance of the season with seven catches for 92 yards. • Demarcus Felton came close to his career high in attempts as he rushed 14 times for 66 yards. He previously carried 16 times earlier this year against Louisiana Tech. • Cameron Batson hauled in a late TD pass to bring his streak of games with a touchdown catch to five.
