GABRIELA DIAZ Georgia Native Gabriela Diaz Began Her Musical Training at the Age of Five, Studying Piano with Her Mother, and the Next Year, Violin with Her Father
1 IMMERSION, ABSORPTION, CONNECTION. Composer Edgar Barroso presents a retrospective collection of works that explore his interest in contemporary sci- ence and technologies, social customs, spirituality, and more, using a variety of ensemble combinations and extended techniques for an array of textures and tonal colors. Commenting on prevailing social activities, Over-Proximity, a work in which the voices compete against each other’s seemingly disconnected phrases, addresses the hyper-connectivity and personal comparisons affected by social networking. The composer examines duration and perspective in works including Sketches of Briefness, Metric Ex- pansion of Space, and Aion, illustrating temporal relationships and the subjectivity of time. Scientific concepts inspire much of Barroso’s music, from the study of variation and change in Morphometrics to Echoic, which features the gamelan’s unique timbre and resonance spectrum. Barroso emphasizes balance, harmony, tranquility, and resolution in works like ACU and Ataraxia, while Noemata and Kuanasi Uato emphasize discord, struggle, and instability, evoking the hardships faced in his native Mexico. 2 KUANASI UATO Commissioned by the International Cervantino Festival, the name of this piece comes from an expression in the Purepecha language, Kuanasi Huato, which means “hill of frogs.” and describes the shape of a series of hills that look like many overlapped frogs. Kuanasi Huato is also the origin of Guanajuato, the name of a city in the center of Mexico, my native country. Because of the geographical characteristics of the city, one can only access it by going through tunnels that cross those hills. The transitions between the outside of the city and the arrival to it is quite unique. -

CENTRO DE ESPECTÁCULOS 19>27 SET 2008 FESTIVAL MÚSICA VIVA CONVERGÊNCIA DE EXPRESSÕES E ESTÉTICAS MUSICAIS MÚltIPLAS Convergência de expressões e estéticas musicais múltiplas Na sua 14.ª edição, o Festival Música Viva é tanto a nível nacional como internacional um amplo e reconhecido espaço de renovação e encontro com as metamorfoses sonoras da música de hoje. Local privilegiado de circulação e confronto de ideias e de estéticas, o festival é também um ponto de convergência da criação musical e da inovação tecnológica e um pólo fundamental de diálogo da música com outras áreas da criação contemporânea. Numa área artística que se estende do domínio instrumental e analógico ao virtual e electrónico, da música improvisada à música escrita, este ano o Festival Música Viva propõe, mais uma vez, nomes consagrados lado a lado com os novíssimos compositores e intérpretes. Das grandes formações orquestrais aos emblemáticos concertos de música electrónica pela Orquestra de Altifalantes, passando pela música de câmara, instalações, vídeo, pela palavra, teatro musical e espectáculos para crianças, a criação musical portuguesa e internacional afirma aqui a sua plena vitalidade e diversidade. O Festival Música Viva 2008 apresenta, de 19 a 27 de Setembro, um total de 24 acções distintas: 124 obras, das quais 20 peças electrónicas no novo projecto Sound Walk; 88 obras tocadas em concerto; e 6 instalações sonoras no Interactive Lounge. Destaca-se ainda o fomento da criação musical que a Miso Music Portugal tem conduzido, sendo responsável pela encomenda de 15 das obras apresentadas. Do universo de 82 compositores representados e 53 estreias absolutas, 42 são compositores portugueses que vão estrear 27 obras, prova inequívoca da prolífica actividade criadora existente em Portugal actualmente e à qual o festival dá voz. -

Des del 1979 forma part de l’Ensemble Intercontemporain. Ha col·laborat en nombroses estrenes, entre les quals Mémoriale de Pierre Boulez (Erato), Esprit rude/Esprit doux d’Elliott Carter (Erato) i Chu Ky V de Tôn-Thât Tiet. Ha enregistrat la Sequenza I de Luciano Berio (Deutsche Grammophon), Explosante fixe (Deutsche Grammophon) i la Sonatine per a flauta i piano de Pierre Boulez (Erato), Imaginary Sky-lines, per a flauta i arpa, d’Ivan Fedele (Adès), Jupiter et La partition du ciel et de l’enfer de Philippe Manoury, etc. Ha actuat amb La Halle Orchestra, Orquestra de Cleveland, London Sinfonietta i les filharmòniques de Los Angeles i Berlín. Sophie Cherrier és professora al Conservatori de París des del 1998 i imparteix classes magistrals a França i a l’estranger. -

Aquest mot alemany, que podríem traduir CONCERT al CM Bernat i Baldoví XERRADA a l’Espai Fuster com estat d’ànim, humor, atmosfera, etc., l’hem fet nostre aquest any com Juanjo Guillem Alberto Posadas a leitmotiv, entre altres raons, perquè estem feliços de poder celebrar el Percussió/Madrid Compositor/Madrid 15é aniversari de la Mostra Sonora de Sueca. -

JUNE 4-10 JUNE IN 2018 BUFFALO JUNE IN BUFFALO JUNE 4–11, 2017 David Felder, Artistic Director June in Buffalo is a festival and conference dedicated to Robert Phillips, Managing Director composers of the present day. Presented by the Department of Music and The Robert and Carol Morris Center for 21st Century Music, the festival will take place on the campus of SENIOR COMPOSERS the University at Buffalo from June 5-11, 2017. The week is filled Louis Karchin with an intensive schedule of seminars, lectures, workshops, David Felder professional presentations, participant forums and open Roger Reynolds Hans Thomalla rehearsals. Concerts in the afternoons and evenings are open Hilda Paredes to the general public and critics. Each of the invited student John Harbison composers will have one of his or her works performed in an afternoon concert. The evening concerts will feature the music of faculty composers, performed by resident ensembles and RESIDENT ENSEMBLES soloists who are internationally renowned as interpreters of Slee Sinfonietta contemporary music. XIV Festival Internacional Callejón del Ruido Creación, Ideas y Tecnología 25 al 30 de marzo de 2019 Guanajuato, Gto. Sedes: Edificio de las Artes, Teatro Principal, Teatro Cervantes, Teatro Juárez, Sala Polivalente, Sala Hermenegildo Bustos, Plazuela de San Roque y Bar Golem. Roberto Morales Manzanares La Universidad de Guanajuato, a través de la Dirección de Extensión Cultural, la División de Arquitectura, Arte y Diseño (DAAD), el Departamento de Música de la Universidad de Guanajuato y el Laboratorio de Informática Musical (LIM) se complacen en presentar la XIV edición del Festival Internacional de Música y Arte Contemporáneo Callejón del Ruido “Creación, Ideas y Tecnología”, que se llevará a cabo en la ciudad de Guanajuato del 25 al 30 de marzo. Esta edición cuenta con la participación de algunas de las personalidades más destacadas en el mundo del arte, incluida la creación musical contemporánea, tanto en el campo de la música acústica como en el de la música por computadora y medios electrónicos. El Festival consistirá de dos conciertos diarios, seminarios, ponencias, clases magistrales y talleres acerca de tópicos relacionados con el quehacer del artista contemporáneo, entre los cuales destacan: 1) Composición con modelos algorítmicos 2) Tecnología en la música y modelos interactivos 3) Composición y análisis de obras 4) Diseño de instrumentos por computadora 5) Técnicas instrumentales contemporáneas 6) Realidad virtual 7) Instalaciones Los conciertos abarcarán desde obras para solistas, ensambles de cámara y orquesta sinfónica.
