X15p EMU SL Roslagsbanan Greater Local Transport (SL),

In August 2016, Stadler was awarded the contract to supply 22 trains to Greater Stockholm Local Transport (SL). The X15p EMU vehicles will operate on the Roslagsbanan line, a narrow-gauge (891 mm), 65.3 km long rail network running between Stockholm and its north-eastern suburbs. In accordance with SL’s technical specifications, Stadler has paid special attention to requirements for winter conditions, ergonomics and comfort, design, exterior acoustics, performance and reliability. The fully equipped EMU is a modern rail vehicle system which has been specially designed to meet the needs and conditions specific to the Roslagsbanan. It combines tried-and-tested components with best-practice technologies to fulfil the requirements of a modern commuter and regional transport system, and the specific needs of the region’s passengers. The vehicle is laid out in an optimised three-carriage configuration for an ideal balance between low-floor seating areas and efficient passenger flow. The carriage body is built using a robust yet lightweight design with welded aluminium extrusions. This provides the benefit of inherent corrosion resistance and lower energy consumption. The vehicle also incorporates the latest standards in terms of safety and long service life. Stadler has a long history of delivering tailor-made narrow-gauge passenger vehicles for a wide variety of rail services, ranging from Alpine rack railways to city trams and local, regional and high-speed commuter trains.
