RACING AHEAD HARNESS - January 1 INTER DOMINION 2015 - 2017 2017 Inter Dominion Champion Lazarus Image courtesy of Gloucester Park/Scott Hamilton Media Article by Wayne Currall The recent Inter Dominion held at Gloucester Park was the last of the master of WA’s little champ Chicago Bull and tough, no-nonsense three championship series held in WA. Sydneysider Tiger Tara. And it was fitting that the best was left until last. The first two home in the final - Lazarus and Chicago Bull - highlighted the diversity of the standardbred breed. In 2015, Victorian raider Lennytheshark outmuscled local hope Lovers Delight to be crowned Inters champion. Anyone associated with racing is aware of the uncertainty faced by connections of horses during their careers and the range of emotions experienced, including unbridled hope, crushing despair and euphoria. 4 Chairman’s Report It has rightly been pointed out that the positive swab is a clear indication that the integrity system works, but the fact remains our industry’s reputation has been tarnished in the eyes of many people. The interests of justice must be properly served but it is extremely disappointing it has taken so long for this matter to be dealt with by New Zealand authorities. The brilliant West Australian pacer Im Themightyquinn was a closing second in the Inter Dominion. The Gary Hall trained Im Themightyquinn had an outstanding season Geoff Want culminating in being declared the Barastoc Australasian Chairman Grand Circuit Pacing Champion. DAY (Kalamunda — Acting Minister for Police) [2.01 pm]: As Acting Minister for Police I wish to advise the house that on Friday, 12 September 2014, the Prime Minister announced that Australia’s national terrorism public alert level was to be raised from medium to high. The decision to raise the alert level was based on advice from the Australian Security and Intelligence Organisation and other security and intelligence agencies. The change in alert level was prompted not by a particular plot or knowledge of a specific attack plan, but because of concern surrounding the increasing number of Australians connected to, working with, or inspired by terrorist groups such as the Islamic State and the Levant—ISIL—Jabhat al-Nusru and al-Qaeda. The threat posed has been increasing for more than a year. More recently, the Australian government has become deeply concerned about Australians involved in the Syrian and Iraqi conflicts and the domestic ramifications arising from that. Australia’s terrorism public alert system has been at medium since its inception in 2003. Raising the level to high means that a terrorist attack is likely, but it does not mean that a terrorist attack will occur. Raising the level is a reflection of increasing concerns by Australian authorities that it may occur.
