I examine three significant roles – musicians, audiences, and mediators, and focus on the interaction between the localized Chinese metal scene and metal globalization. This thesis project uses multiple methods, including textual analysis, observation, surveys, and in-depth interviews. In this thesis, I illustrate an image of the Chinese metal scene, present the characteristics and the development of metal musicians, fans, and mediators in China, discuss their contributions to scene’s construction, and analyze various internal and external factors that influence the localization of metal in China. After that, I argue that the development and the localization of the metal scene in China goes through three stages, the emerging stage (1988-1996), the underground stage (1997-2005), the indie stage (2006-present), with Chinese characteristics. Damit machen sie den seit 1989 existierenden ›Oomph!‹ und den 2004 gegründeten ›Powerwolf‹ gewaltige Konkurrenz. Das Metal-Oper-Projekt von Gründer Tobias Sammet dürfte eines der größten Unterfangen sein, das in der Metalmusikwelt verwirklicht wurde. ANNA NOAH will wissen, ob der Liveauftritt von Avantasia so erstklassig ist, wie im Promotrailer behauptet wird. Keine Vorbands – Auf los geht’s los! Für die aktuelle Tour von ›Avantasia‹ hat Tobias Sammet wieder etliche Größen der Musikbranche auf der Bühne vereint. Nach dem ersten Lied ›Ghost in the Moonlight‹ kam bereits für die zweite Single aus ›Moonglow‹ Ronny Atkins mit auf die Bühne – danach begann der hochkarätige Star-Abend passend mit ›Starlight‹. Weitere Gäste waren der Heavy-Metal-Sänger Jørn Lande, der Metal-Sänger und Songwriter Geoff Tate, der Sänger der Hardrock-Band Mr. Big, Eric Lee Martin, und Bob Catley, Sänger der Rock-Band Magnum. ›Moonglow‹ präsentierte sich bereits im Vorfeld als brillant schönes Album, das den Avantasia-Wurzeln treu geblieben ist, sich jedoch weiterentwickelt und gut genug verändert hat, um aktuell – und vor allem beliebt – zu bleiben. Unterstützung gibt es von Background- und Leadsänger Herbie Langhans, der mit Bariton- Vocals, aber auch energiegeladenen Back-Up-Vocals den ganzen Abend zusammen mit der temperamentvollen Adrienne Cowan durchgepowert hat. Metal auf hohem (Energie-)Niveau Das Konzert ging weit über die drei von Sammet versprochenen Stunden hinaus.
