The meeting began with a prayer by Rev. Fr. Lourdusamy Susai, SDB, Secretary, Meston Education and Development Association, followed by the proceedings of the meeting.

The Principal welcomed the members of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell.

The following plan of action had been undertaken

(i) As per the observations of the UGC Autonomy Review Committee, a workshop on “Preparation of Question Bank” had been organized from 13th to 16th November, 2018 by the IQAC of our college, by inviting experienced teacher educators from all over .

(ii) The entry register regarding the usage of Journals by our staff and Research Scholars is maintained in the Library.

(iii) National Seminar on the theme “Instructional Efficiency to prepare the Post Millennials for 2025” was organized on 30th and 31st January, 2019.

(iv) Our second year B.Ed. students had their Annual All India Educational Tour to Delhi, Agra and Nainital from 04th to 12th January, 2019.

(v) Annual Citizenship Training Camp was organized for the I year B.Ed. students from 13.11.2018 to 17.11.2018

Examinations

nd th th The 2 class tests were conducted from 29 October, 2018 to 8 November, 2018 and revision examinations were conducted from 30th November, 2018 to 7th December, 2018. The First and Third semester examination for this academic year began on 13th December, 2018 and ended on 20th December, 2018.

First and Second Year B.Ed. Practical Examination was held on 15th March, 2018, under the convenorship of Dr.(Mrs.)Kapila Shobini, Associate Professor of English, Institute of Advanced Study in Education, Saidapet, Chennai-15.

Mock Viva-Voce was conducted for M.Phil. students, on 15th April, 2019 to provide prior experience to face the main examination with confidence. Viva-Voce was conducted for M.Phil. students, on 16th April, 2019. The Model Examinations for both Second and Fourth Semesters, for B.Ed. and M.Phil. are held from 24th April, 2019.

Citizenship Training Camp

As a part of B.Ed. curriculum, ‘Citizenship Training Camp’ was organized from 13th to 17th November, 2018 (For 5 days). Dr.T.Sekar, Headmaster, Government Higher Secondary School, Arumbakkam, Chennai delivered the inaugural address. Major.E.S. Daniel Gunanithi, I.A.S. (Retd.), President, Meston Education and Development Association and Rev. Fr. Lourdusamy Susai, SDB, Secretary, Meston Education and Development Association graced the inaugural function. Dr.(Mrs.)M.S.Thillainayaki, Principal i/c, Lady Willington Institute of Advanced Study in Education, Chennai delivered the Valedictory address.

Educational Tour An All India Educational Tour was organized from 04.01.2019 to 12.01.2019 for our second year B.Ed. students to Delhi, Agra and Nainital to taste the history with a panoramic view as the heritage site.

Seminars/Workshops Our college organized a two day National Seminar on “Instructional efficiency to prepare the Post Millenials for 2025” on 30th & 31st January of 2019. Prof. G. Rita Goretti Lourdes, Former Controller of Examinations & Former Professor & Head, School of Education, Tamil Nadu Open University, Saidapet, Chennai – 600 015 delivered the inaugural address and released the seminar proceedings. Dr. (Miss) Adella Paul, Former Dean, Meston College of Education and Rev. Fr. Maria Louis, Former Vice-President, Meston Education and Development Association and Dean, Wesley Higher Secondary School graced the occasion. Dr.K.Y. Benedict, Principal, Mar Theophilos Training College, Trivandrum, Kerala – 695 015, Prof. B. Prof. P. Sivakumar, Professor & Head, Department of Education (DDE), , Karaikudi – 630 004 chaired the Technical sessions. Prof. R. Thandavan, Former Vice-Chancellor, delivered the valedictory note and distributed the certificates to the delegates. Our President Major. E.S. Daniel Gunanithi, I.A.S. (Retd.) graced the valedictory function.

The Women’s Cell of our college organized a State Level Workshop on 08th March, 2019 on the theme, “Women: The Beacon of Light”. Sixteen colleges of Education participated with 81 students and 11 staff members to make this workshop a memorable one. Mrs.Emily Titus, Principal, C.S.I. Monahan Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Royapettah, Chennai-14 delivered the inaugural address on the workshop theme. The Inter-collegiate competitions on Bridal Make up, Flower Arrangement, Cooking without Fire and Solo dance were conducted. The valedictory address was given by Ms.Srilekha Menon, News Presenter, News 7 Tamil channel on the theme “Women-Epitome”. Respected Secretary Rev. Fr. Lourdusamy Susai, SDB, graced the occasion.

A workshop on “Test and Measurement” was organized for the first year B.Ed. students by Dr. P. Eugene Michael, Assistant Professor in Mathematics from 07.01.2019 to 09.01.2019.

A debate was organized by Dr. P. Eugene Michael, Assistant Professor in Mathematics on the topic “bjhHpw;El;gj;jhy; fy;tpapd; juk;: cah;fpwJ, khw;wkpy;iy, FiwfpwJ”. First year B.Ed. students along with Mrs. C. Jeba Evangeline, Assistant Professor in Physical Science participated in the debate on 10.01.2019.

Preparation of Question Bank

As per the recommendation of the UGC autonomy review committee, a workshop on “Preparation of Question Bank” was organized from 13th to 16th November, 2018 by the IQAC of our college, by inviting experienced teacher educators from all over Tamil Nadu.

PTA Meeting

The PTA Meeting was held on 1st December, 2018 and the same Office Bearers of last academic year are continuing as office bearers this year too.

Ph.D. Public Viva – Voce examination

Ph.D. Public Viva-Voce examination was conducted for Mrs.M.Caroline Maria on 10th November, 2018, under the guideship of Dr.S.Mani on the theme ‘Effect of Ecological Intelligence on Developing Ecological sensitivity among prospective teachers’ Prof. Sudhakar Venu, Prof. & Head, EFLU, Hyderabad, served as the external examiner.

Cultural and Sports Meet

➢ Chennai District Level Sports and Cultural Meet – 2019, organised by Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University was hosted by our College on 28th and 29th January, 2019. Our President Major E.S.Daniel Gunanithi I.A.S. (Retd.) declared the Chennai District Level Sports Meet open. Mr.H.Krishnamurthy, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Royapettah, Chennai-14 delivered the valedictory address. Our student Mr.K.S.Balamurugan, won 1st place in 100 meters and long jump, Mr.Nikilesh Lingesan secured 2nd place in high jump and our college men relay team secured 3rd place in 4x100 meters relay. Championship trophies were received by Institute of Advanced Study in Education, Saidapet, Chennai-15 for the First place and Loyola College of Education, Chennai for the Second place. Mr.S.Rangaraj of Second year B.Ed. student secured the First place in singing competition in both District Level and Zonal Level cultural meet organized by our parent University.

➢ In the zonal level sports meet, organised by Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University on 05th February, 2019, our student Mr.Nikilesh Lingesan secured 3rd place in high jump and Mr.K.S.Balamurugan, won 1st place in long jump.

INTER-COLLEGIATE PROGRAMMES / COMPETITIONS

In the Elocution and Essay writing competitions organized by Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University at Stella Matutina College of Education on 08th January, 2019, Mr.P.Suraj Kannan, Mr.R.Ilaiyaraja, Ms.Ritu Krishnan and Ms.M.Nirmala & Ms.T.Thiruthamizh participated in the Elocution competition in English, Elocution competition in Tamil, Essay writing competition in English and Essay writing competition in Tamil respectively.

An Inter-Collegiate Cultural competition was organized by CSI NewBigin College of Education in view of Womens’ Day on 4th to 7th March, 2019. Our students Ms.N.Bakiyavathi and Ms.V.Kiruthikha bagged the second place in Invitation Making. Ms.J.Sheeba Jenifer and Ms.T.Thiruthamizh got the second place in Best out of Waste. Ms.N.Bhakiyavathi and Ms.V.Kiruthikha secured the second place in Paper Dress Making. Ms.J.Sheeba Jenifer and Ms.J.Deepa procured the First place in Fruits and Vegetable Carving. Ms.M.Pradeepa and Ms.V.Sathiyabala grabbed the First place in Hair Dressing. In Solo Singing, Mr.S.Rangaraj received the first place. In Solo Dance, Ms.K.Priyadharshini secured the First place. In Duet Song, Mr.S.Rangaraj and Ms.J.Sheeba Jenifer bagged the First place. In Group song, Ms.S.Aarthy, Ms.J.Pinky Sharon, Mr.K.Harish, Mr.R.Dhayachand Timothy Paul and Ms.R.Sasikala, secured the First place. In Poetry writing, Ms.R.Sasikala received the First place. In Duet dance, Ms.C.Siva Sathiya and Ms.K.Yuvashree bagged the First place. Ultimately, the Overall Rolling Trophy was bagged by our students.

Mr.P.Suraj Kannan and Mr.S.Rangaraj participated in the Inter-collegiate Extempore Elocution competition, organized by St.Christopher’s College of Education, Chennai-07 on 27th March, 2019.

Functions Founder’s Day was celebrated on 8th December, 2018 in order to remember the service rendered by our founder principal Rev.T.R.Foulger and Thanks Giving Service was conducted by Pastor.Max Premson, God’s Army Church, YMCA, Chennai. The Hostel Christmas Function was celebrated on 8th December, 2018. Mr.Jayson Victor, Missionary, Blessing Youth Mission, Chennai delivered the Christmas message. The Meston Educational Development and Association (MEDA) celebrated Christmas Function on 13th December, 2018 and Bro. Maxwell Lazarus, (Evangelist) shared the God’s Message. Our College Christmas Celebration was on 22-12-2018 and Rev.Abraham O John, Founder and Senior Pastor, Victory Center, Chennai shared the Christmas message.

The 70th Republic day was celebrated on 26th January, 2019. Our Respected Principal unfurled the national flag. Our B.Ed. student teachers presented a fascinating show with a sense of patriotism.

81stAnnual Sports Meet was declared open by Mr.Edward, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Railways, Chennai, on 28th March, 2019. New Begin House was adjudged first among the four houses. The individual championships for men and women were bagged by Mr.K.S.Balamurugan and Ms.K.Preetha respectively.

On 3rd April, 2019, 79th Graduation day was solemnized in the presence of Hon’ble Thiru. Justice M.M.Sundresh, Judge, High Court of Madras. Our revered Secretary, Rev.Fr.Lourdusamy Susai and respected academic Dean, Dr.N.Vijayan graced the occasion.

Our 81st College Day was celebrated on 12-04-2019. Dr.N.Rabindranath Tagore, Registrar (i/c) and Controller of Examinations, Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, Chennai delivered the chief guest address. Rev.Fr.Lourdusamy Susai, SDB, Secretary, MEDA, Rev.Fr.Maria Louis, Member, MEDA and Mr.Gnanavijayan, IQAC Member graced the occasion.

Other Activities

Our I year B.Ed. students watched the live telecast of “Pariksha pe charcha 2.0” contest at 11.00 a.m. by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi on 29.01.2019. Our students took pledges on the themes ‘Bursting of Fire Crackers during Festivals’, ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’ and ‘National Unity day(Commemorating Birthday of Sardar Valabhai Patel), on 3rd, 30th and 31st October, 2018 respectively. All students and staff attended the 8th Annual Convocation of Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University on 29th November, 2018.

Farewell Function

Major E.S.Daniel Gunanithi, I.A.S. (Retd.), President, MEDA, Rev.Fr.Lourdusamy Susai, SDB, Secretary, MEDA and Dr.N.Vijayan, Dean, Meston College of Education graced the farewell function of Mr.A.Vilvanathan, Office Assistant who retired after a tireless service of 34 years on 18.12.2018.

112/2019 Plan of Action The following plan of action has been proposed

1. A Research Colloquium will be organized.

2. A workshop on ‘Preparation of Question Bank’ will be organized on 10th May, 2019.

3. Annual reports on various activities of the college will be submitted in May 2019.

4. Stock checking will be completed before vacation starts.

5. A new building for the college will be built with the financial assistance from RUSA

113/2019 Suggestions

Our Dean, Dr. N. Vijayan suggested to highlight the proceedings of the all the academic events (Seminar/ Conference) to the stake holders in the state. He also stressed to conduct entrance examination for admission into B.Ed. programme. Our President thanked the Dean for his valid suggestions.

When the president enquired about the reappearing candidates in the I Semester B.Ed. theory examinations, Principal informed that one I year B.Ed. student by name Mr. Sivakumar, had to reappear in 6 subjects out of 7 subjects, because of his poor handwriting. He also further told that particular candidate had to reappear in the 1st year B.Ed. practical examination also. Finally, Principal concluded that his parent approached the Principal to give one more chance ie. II Semester B.Ed. theory Examinations.

When our college Dean enquired about the digitalization of our library, our librarian told that it is in process. He also suggested to approach the president with regard to pending of increment to staff, if any. The President stressed the importance of involvement of all staff to bring quality in Education in the upcoming IQAC meetings. He appreciated the Principal and the staff for the smooth functioning of the college.

The meeting came to an end with the Vote of thanks by Mrs. G. Jemima, IQAC co-ordinator and closing prayer by Dr. N. Vijayan, Dean, Meston College of Education.
