Download and watch full movies and other videos on a crystal clear 4:3 display – great for travel! Play games and install custom Android apps. Install Android applications from the Amazon Appstore. Pros: ***** This is an update to an earlier review******** Upgrade the firmware and install some better apps. A new firmware was released oct 1. Much faster after firmware upgrade though all 3rd party apps have to be reinstalled. After the upgrade and some 3rd party app installs everything seems quicker and now I would highly recommend this to people. Its not perfect but for the price its hard to beat. They also have added a basic user guide on their support site. Cons: Reinstall 3rd party apps after firmware upgrade but its more a minor issue just back up the apk files if you have any installed. You will also have to download any borders and reconfigure anything youve set up email, settings etc all get wiped but its worth it. Overall Review: You must update the firmware with the one released Oct 1st. I didnt think it was bad prior to the update except on occasion but the firmware made quite a difference. They also have a newer youtube app(havent used it yet). I would also highly recommend installing the Adobe reader for android, Opera mini/Skyfire, is also a good addition. I also have gotten pandora to work and it seems to work pretty well but it didnt work until a reboot. Pros: * Nice size tablet - large display * Rubberized non-slip backing * Adjustable Font and Night Mode * Vivid Color Display * Great Looking E-Reader * Quick & Easy Touch Capactive * Easy to Download Borders Books * Instant E-Mail Connection * Wireless Internet Access * Calendar, Alarm, Games Calculator Pre-Loaded. Cons: * Does not play You Tube Video * Internet a little slow to load * Not a lot of apps in the Cruz Market. Overall Review: As an e-reader, the Micro Cruz is fantastic! Large display area, touch capacitive page turn, instant download from Border's Books, rich color display, bookmarks and adjustable font with day or night viewing modes. The bonus is it's ability to act as a tablet, too. E-mail is quick and easy to access, the internet browser connects to wi-fi, and there are downloadable app's. It is not an I-Pad; but it beats all other e- readers hands down! Compare it to a Nook or Kindle and there is no doubt - Cruz is a winner! Pros: Very upgradeable. Works great out of the box, but you can make it rock with some customizing. Cheap Better than the Cruz Tablet, don't waste your money. Cons: Resistive screen (but you can get over that) Overall Review: My daughter who is less than 3 years old can use this thing, so can you. The resistive screen is not as bad as most people make it out to be. Downloaded a custom JGM ROM, put in an 8GB internal microSD, "tweaked" it to match the 800Mhz of the tablet, you can get android market to work on it, so you can put a ton of stuff on this thing. I am using Aldiko instead of the stock buggy Borders program and it is much much better, all within a week of owning my first android device. If I can do all that, so can you. I'm still finding cool stuff I can do with it. The screen is not as nice as a capacitive screen but it is not that bad either. Pros: Nice Screen, Android OS, Can get other android apps off the internet and load them on to it, Aldiko reader app works great on it. MP3's play perfect. Cons: Response somewhat slow at times when hitting the home key or back button. Speaker volume not great. Overall Review: I got this device for a family member, tried it out for a week and overall liked it. First I had to leave this comment because so many people were giving it bad reviews. 1. I ddn't even use the Borders\Default reader, it did seem slow. I just went to the app store and downloaded Aldiko, awesome app, great Public Domain books. 2. I have a droid X, and thought it would be as responsive, it lags a little, and sometimes you have to keep your finger on it a little longer to select something. 3. I hooked it up to my computer everything worked as expected, could drag files to the drive back and forth to both the internal memory and the SD card. 4. I have tons of divx and xvid movie files which I tried to watch, wouldn't work. Played around for a few days and found "Mp4 Video Converter Factory", made sure it used the MPEG4 codec, and wahla, videos played on it. The video hiccups a little but the voices stay in sync, at least on the videos I converted. All and all I like it for the $ Pros: Large screen, good size and weight, fairly responsive. Good price, almost a tablet but not quite. 4GB internal SD included also has an SD Card slot. Many Classic books available for free in the Borders store. I downloaded 20-30 immediately and will probably keep me busy for quite a while. Cons: definitely slow but for 199 you shouldnt be expecting a super computer. Apps can be a little hard to find since google prevents tablets from using their market. Overall Review: Overall it fulfills its intended purpose its a Reader that is capable of doing more. I personally like it so far though the lack of apps I think is hurting it. Wish it was slightly more powerful but they do not market it as a tablet they have a more expensive device for that coming soon. If you want a reader that can do a bit more this is great for that. If you want an IPAD competitor this is not it wait and get the Cruz tablet in a few months or some other item thats out but it will most likely cost more. Pros: Nice E reader, Just got it for my wife. If you have an android phone its easier to understand. Cant get all the apps, but im sure there will be an update. My wife love's it. Remember you bought a E book reader. Sometimes you forget while browsing the web with this, down load dolphin browser. Its faster than Google. Very good Book reader. Cons: can be slow. some apps freeze, but force close will work. Headphone and speakers work at the same time. Wish the speakers would shut down when you plug in headphones. Overall Review: Movies run nice on the Cruz. For the money you get more than a reader. Clear wording and Night screen in reading was an excellant add on. I like it but, I may have to buy another one for myself. Pros: I believe this is an incredible device for the price and size. I am downloading the android market as we speak. Cons: The only downfall that I can see is the cheezy base they give you. I expected it to have the ports built into it and you just dock. Instead its just a plastic piece. You plug in all of the cords into the unit and then place it in the base. Pros: With a seemingly reasonable price, I was pleased at how simple the hardware itself was to operate and how cleanly Velocity laid out its Android derivative. Cons: Being the owner of a Google G1 phone, I was expecting more Google tools/integration out of the box and more direct access to the Android.com market. That's not Velocity's approach, though. Plus, I expected sturdier hardware. Unfortunately, pressing even a little bit on the back causes the screen to wave/distort. My biggest complaint, though, is that even after calibrating the touchscreen multiple times, the screen is not very quick to respond to my touch: I'm having to move my fingers slower than I have on my G1, and the standard Android 2.x icons along the top require me to swipe my finger from the edge inward until it finally detects my finger trying to touch the icon. Overall Review: If you're looking for a convenient, easy-to-use e-reader, this is a great device to use. If you're more like me, though, and looking for something to supplement your computer for email and social networking when you're not online, you may be frustrated by the performance of the touchscreen. I purchased the device as something to use as I dabble in developing software for Android, though, and it is quite sufficient for that use. Velocity Micro Cruz T103 512 MB Memory 7.0" 800 x 480 Tablet Android 2.0 (Eclair) Pros: It is not a bad Ebook reader. The price I got it for plus free shipping was ok. I got it for 130 usd less then the listed price. Newegg shipping was very quick less than three days. Way to go Newegg. It hooks up to my wifi with no problem. Google is a joke I never liked it anyway. Can get the borders book using my computer then it will. Cons: The cons: Android 2.0 not 2.1. To bad this is not windows operating system. OS cannot be upgraded to 2.1 or better. This is a discontinued item on the Velocity website and they are not selling it anymore. They have newer models. T104 and T105. As for the price that I paid even with the lower price tag it was still priced way to high. It is not worth at all the 299.99 that it is price at now. The scroll bar will not slide down. I can only view one page of offered books on the Borders site. Can not scroll down the list. To view a web site is a joke. It is way to small. When enlarge the site it is way to big. I am still trying to figure this all out. I finally got the word player to install for . The only thing I have to read in epubs is a free book from borders. The little sd cards are not recognized by windows 7 64 bit O S I tried on my old laptop window xp. It did recognize it. No cleaning cloth or lens spray. Finger print magnet. Overall Review: I have been to the android site and cannot find that SlideMe app. I went through all the sections. I did finally get to install some apps. Kindle but can only get three free books, cannot get to a place to find more books on that site for the cruz. While using the cruz Wordplayer for epubs. This did not show up till I hook up to my laptop. The app store That did download from the cruz. This did connect to my wifi internet no problem. I have to find everything for it using my computer then hook it up and hope I can get it to download and install. If you want an E Reader which is all that I really wanted this is ok. I like the fact that it is in color. I like the night time reading set up. At night if you use the daytime set up you can actually use it for a flash light. My thought is get rid of android and go with window operating system. To bad I cannot do that. I think it will make it easier to get to the program applications. If you can find it for a really cheap price buy it. Pros: CHEAP. This tablet is great size and the SD card is nice to have. 512 MB ram HUGE plus the screen is nice and responsive. The resolution is great for watching video, viewing pictures, and reading E-books. Wifi is a snap to set up. Every one keeps giving this tablet a bad review for lack of market and compatible apps. Well you just have to know how to use the system. First download the slide me market place (3000+) apps. After that you can side load apps (online ;or off other android devices (if android 2.2 is available and can download apps to SD card). I have currently gotten Pandora, youtube, Google maps and am currently working on Angry birds. Please don't give this a bad review if you truly don't know what your reviewing! Cons: The MIPS CPU is a little on the weak side. =( The speakers could be a little louder. The touch sensitive buttons should stay back lite (hard to see). Also a camera would be a HUGE plus! Don't know why it came with 2 SD cards (8GB and 4GB) would of much rather had one 16GB SD card. No android (2.1/2.2) waiting for an update. No flash support (working on it but is hard with android 2.0) Overall Review: Not a bad little tablet for the price. Wish there was a way to get really Google market place =/ but this is not the only android tablet that has this problem so it is not that big of a deal. if you use my advise i believe that your experience with this tablet will be greatly improved. (also i hope Cruz takes some of this advise). Pros: Pros: DROID OS, decent speakers, fairly lightweight, nice screen, size, good battery life, BEAUTIFUL display of and websites, email, IM, comes w some OK apps. I dont see this as an IPAD killer, its quite nice, but does require you to put a little time into making it suit your needs. This includes getting apps by means other than just CruzMarket (limited apps imo), adjusting settings such as brightness, sleep timer, shortcuts etc. If you are familiar with DROID OS, this tablet is great. If you are not, you may not like having to spend some time on looking for/installing apps and tweaking things(this by no means requires advanced tech skills fyi, but does require some internet research). 4 stars because out of the box it didnt give me EPUB. Price was $250 at B0rder$ fyi. Cruz Reader is a scaled down version of Tablet, and DOES support EPUB out of the box, FYI. I have had no issues with system freezing , powerful enough for multitasking. FB, Twitter app, IM app, reads PDFs, WiFi. Cons: No EPUB support out of box, this is easily remedied by downloading/installing apps that will do EPUB (Moon+ reader is GREAT). CruzMarketplace is limited, I suggest freewarelovers.com and downloading the SLIDEME app to get apps that arent on CruzMarket. No paper manual in box, have to download it from Cruz Market. Google Apps arent easily installable (see below on how I tweaked this little tablet to become MUCH more than what it is out of the box). REMEMBER- Although this is a DROID tablet, Google Marketplace does NOT support it, you cant download apps that way. There are other options, dont despair, but Google Marketplace isnt available to this device. I did get MAPS and GOOGLE Talk on and it does Google Email by default. WiFi internet access only, no 3G or anything like that. So if you dont have an accessible wifi spot, you dont get on the net/check email/Twitter, etc. Overall Review: When I couldnt open EPUB docs with the default OfficeSuite app, I was VERY worried this was going to be a 'bad' purchase. After a few moments of investigation on the internet, I found several resources that would make this tablet a GREAT buy for me. I was able to install the following FREE droid Apps to my Cruz Tablet by either using freewarelovers website, SlideME app, or by COPYING then running the .APK files from my motorola DROID phone to an SD card and installing them to the Cruz Tablet: Dolphin HD Web Browser Google Maps (copy from phone SD card) Pandora (AWESOME! and doable even w/out official Google Droid Marketplace) SlideME (an alternative to Cruz Marketplace/Google Marketplace) KINDLE Moon+ Reader (Epub reader, VERY nice and free) DirectTV app (copied from my Droid phones SD card) ACV (android Comic viewer) Keep in mind this DOESNT have GPS etc, and its NOT a phone (duh). Reading on this is INCREDIBLE, internet is AWESOME, games are FUN. Its NOT. Pros: Nice size to carry along. Includes carrying pouch and SD card. Looks pretty nice. Good price compared other tablets. Excellent viewing angle. Easy to carry size. Cons: Heavy. Screen does not always register touches often times requires multiple taps. Taps are often registered on wrong item. Screen is not that good for reading books because the text looks jagged and fuzzy on anything but zoomed in. Borders Reader night mode turns everything including text black. Pinch to zoom is very inconsistent. Many times zooming in actually zooms out. Also when you zoom in on the browser it either immediately zooms back out zooms out as soon as you move the page. Many times scrolling on any page whether it is a webpage or not you end up selecting the first item your finger hits instead of scrolling. Task manager is not included so you have to find one or the system will freeze. You cannot access the Andriod App store because Google doesn't allow it. The Cruz store only has one page of apps. You can browse another app store that is on the list in the Cruz Store but it is not finger friendly and searches don't seem to return much of anything. Overall Review: Some things that might be negatives depending on your preferences are that the Nook and Kindle apps cannot be added without a hack. Try to install either from their website and it directs you to the Andiod Apps store which is not allowed. Velocity Micro has already said they will not upgrade this to Andriod 2.1 or 2.2. On forums about this device others have contacted Velocity Micro about some of the problems and their stance is that it will stay the way it is and they are focusing their efforts on a replacement for this device already. Their are no indications that they are dedicated to making this thing work. To be successful today you have to keep your device up to date like Apple is doing and Microsoft intends to do. Also when you first start using the screen it feels a bit tacky causing your finger to snag and not slide smoothly. As you get oils from your hands on it then it starts to slide some but then it is covered in fingerprints. Clean it and you start all over again.
