The International Academy of Film and Television – Asia’S Premier Film School THE INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY OF FILM AND TELEVISION – ASIA’S PREMIER FILM SCHOOL Cebu, PHILIPPINES (August 14, 2007) – A globally competitive curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, and mentors who are industry professionals from films capitals the world over – these, and more, comprise the top-rate filmmaking education by the International Academy of Film and Television (IAFT), Asia’s Premier Film School. IAFT caters to the international film community’s demands for excellent professionalism and talent resources by providing top-rate film education and training so, in January 17, 2006, the Academy launched the One-Year Immersion in Digital Filmmaking. Consisting of five nine-week terms, the One-Year Immersion in Digital Filmmaking includes courses on cinematography, editing, directing, screenwriting, producing, filmmaking, sound design and other electives. This curriculum is combined with rigorous hands-on application using state-of-the-art equipment and technology found within the 20,000 square meter facilities of parent company Bigfoot Entertainment. Located in the tropical island paradise of Mactan in Cebu, Philippines, Bigfoot Entertainment is furnished with the most modern in video and audio production, such as an 81-seat Mixing Theatre, an Automated Dialogue Replacement studio, a Foley studio, high-end Editing Suites and two Sound Stages. Sound Stage 1 is rated NC-24, the first true sound-proof sound stage in the Philippines; while Sound Stage 2 boasts a massive floor space of 1,100 square meters. In addition to its vast technical resources are Bigfoot’s hotel, Hollywood Suites and, its onsite dormitory, the Casablanca Gardens, a two-minute walk away from the Academy. Bigfoot’s self-contained premises house not just IAFT, but also Bigfoot Productions, New Cebu Films, and Fashion TV (FTV). Bigfoot Productions produces quality independent feature films, television programs, as well as other educational and corporate content, while New Cebu Films specializes in synergy-related film projects between students and filmmakers that are produced at Bigfoot's facilities in Cebu. Bigfoot Entertainment holds the master rights to the international fashion beauty and style television channel FTV, in Singapore and the Philippines. The IAFT’s roster of past and present mentors are composed of distinguished industry professionals from Hollywood and other film capitals of the world. Among them are: Greg Curda, whose vast sound mixing credits include Indecent Proposal (1993) and The Godfather: Part III (1990); twelve Golden Reel nominations, four Academy Award nominations, and one Academy Award for him and his team. Les Wolf, a Sound Editor that has cut them all – from animation to television shows to motion pictures – and garnered numerous recognitions: thirteen Golden Reel Awards, four Emmy Award nominations, and one Emmy Award for his work on Nickelodeon’s Angry Beavers cartoon series. Malcolm Cromie, the Production and Production Sound Expert whose body of work includes The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Peter Jackson's King Kong and, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Reflecting the quality of the Academy’s education is the critical acclaim bestowed upon its students by film festivals, such as those given to pioneering students Ian Allen Lim and Publio “Pubs” Briones. With his student film One’s Tear, Lim became one of just 33 multi-national finalists in the International Peace Film Festival (IPFF) held in South Korea in October of 2006, while in March of 2007, Briones bagged two awards with his student film Ang Pagbabalik (Homecoming) at one of the Philippines’ most distinguished film fests, Gawad CCP Para Sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video (The CCP Independent Film and Video Competition). Ang Pagbabalik won Best Regional Entry and placed 2nd in the Overall Competition. The most recent critical acclaim was received in Aug. 15 of this year, when IAFT fresh graduate Ernest Michael “Myk” Manalastas bagged the Ishmael Bernal Award for his entry Delusions in this year’s Cinemanila Film Festival. The Ishmael Bernal Award for Young Cinema is the grand prize in Cinemanila’s Digital Lokal Category for Short Films. IAFT Founder Kacy Andrews beams with pride at the accolades earned by IAFT students. She remarked, "We are very proud about the quality of work our students are producing and it's quite an honor to see them be recognized and awarded by the outside film community." Through its affiliation with parent company Bigfoot Entertainment, IAFT enhances the educational experience of its students by providing practical, hands-on training and unique internship opportunities on actual projects. In December of 2006, Lim and two other pioneering students, Josemaria Basa and Dwight Handro Buot, were drafted as crew for the New Cebu Films production Deep Gold, an action-thriller set for international release in 2008. Lim functioned as 3rd Assistant Director, while Basa was the Trainee in the Sound Department, and Buot was the Cameraman for the EPK & BTS Unit. IAFT accentuates its belief in its students with the principle, “Give us a year, and we’ll give you a career.” The three previously-mentioned graduates now hold jobs with Bigfoot: Lim as FTV Production Manager, Basa as Editor, and Buot as In-House Cameraman. Recent graduate Ivan Togonon is now with Bigfoot as Associate Producer. IAFT’s One-Year Immersion Program is offered at a surprisingly competitive rate: US$9,000 for international students and US$6,000 for local Filipino students, versus US$25,000 to US$30,000 of similar programs in the United States. These factors and more have led to a continuous flow of students of diverse ages, backgrounds and levels of experience; and they have flown in from as far as Canada, South Africa and the US, to name a few. • The World's Hottest Production Facilities 12:30 PM PDT 5/6/2010 by Empty, AP
The world's hottest production facilities 12:30 PM PDT 5/6/2010 by Empty, AP Poland’s Alvernia Studios Brazil, Germany and others woo filmmakers BRAZIL Polo Cinematografico de Paulinia In a bold move to swap petrol dollars for film bucks, the small city of Paulinia is completing an overhaul that will reposition it as a major film center, complete with state-of-the-art shooting facilities, schools and theaters. The standout in this ambitious project is a new studio, Polo Cinematografico de Paulinia, which hopes to attract big-budget film productions from around the world while creating new employment opportunities locally. Paulinia, the seventh-richest city in Brazil -- strategically located just 67 miles from Sao Paulo -- funded the entire project, the brainchild of former Mayor Edson Moura. Projected costs are estimated at $60 million - $70 million, which will cover five soundstages, 120 3D animation stations, 3D scanning, a 1,000 CPU render farm and the allocation of more than 5.2 million square feet of surrounding land reserved for building film sets. Effi Wizen, the head of visual effects for Estudios Quanta, a major Sao Paulo-based regional film industry player, believes "a studio of this size will completely change the visual effects field in Brazil, bringing it to a different level." Wizen's company helped make the city's dream a reality by converting factory land once used for producing refinery components into an ultra-modern film production facility. He will now oversee the studio's animation department. The full complex should be running at 100% in the very near future, with the postproduction services completely ready in July and motion capture and the body scanning facilities finished by next year.
