Four decades ago, Billy and Ruth Graham hiked up a pristine Blue Ridge mountainside on the east side of Asheville, N.C. Stopping by a shallow creek to pray, they asked God to use the surrounding beauty for His glory— to make it a sanctuary for spiritual refreshment and transformation. At The Cove’s dedication service nearly 10 years later, the Grahams each expressed their vision for the scenic haven with four words. Ruth prayed that The Cove would be a place for retreat, rest, relaxation, and renewal— a refuge where people could meet with the Lord Jesus Christ, personally and privately, and never be the same again. Billy committed it to impact, intercession, instruction, and inspiration— relying on God’s Word to equip His people for discipleship and sharing His love with others. Today, their prayers continue to be answered for tens of thousands of guests each year. “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” —PHILIPPIANS 4:8, ESV HEAR HIM IN HIS WORD. Do you need to renew your relationship with God? This is the ideal place to do it. One thing you’ll notice about The Cove is that everything on- site is intentional: our inviting mountain inns, attentive hospitality, delicious gourmet buffets, winding walking trails, and so much more. It’s all thoughtfully designed to free you from the stress and distractions of daily life and help you focus on God’s Word and hear Him speak. As breathtaking as The Cove’s physical surroundings are, the real beauty of this place is what Jesus Christ does in each open heart. The Bible says, “He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness” (Psalm 107:9, NKJV). If you give God your time here and focus on building your relationship with Him, He will fill you up, refresh your spirit, and begin meeting those needs and desires that often seem so elusive. Come experience a real, authentic, and life-changing encounter with Christ. WILL GRAHAM Executive Director “The instruction of the Lord is perfect, renewing one’s life; the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise.” —PSALM 19:7, HCSB DISCOVER THE PERSONAL POWER OF GOD’S PRESENCE. From the time The Cove was merely a vision shared by my mother and father, this 1,200- acre property has been surrounded in prayer. We praise God that He is answering these prayers as gifted leaders, seminary professors, and authors continue to guide people from all walks of life in applying God’s Word. Whether you come for a seminar with a leading Bible teacher or a Personal Spiritual Retreat, you can immerse yourself in Scripture and the presence of the Holy Spirit and be filled with His fruit: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, [and] self-control” (Galatians 5:22–23, ESV). It is a blessing to hear from men and women of all ages who have been strengthened, encouraged, or equipped by the Lord during their time here—which often comes in the midst of a crisis or at an important crossroads of decision. If you need guidance, rest, or rejuvenation, God has provided this place for you. America still needs the message of “the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). The one sure path to national restoration is through repentance, and only the Good News of God’s Son can humble hearts and change them—across our nation or anywhere in the world. FREE FOR YOU ON REQUEST TO: [email protected] 15 June 2016 Vol 78 No 21 Free On Request: [email protected] Will Graham Goes Outback To Share The Hope Of Christ Evangelist Will Graham returned to Australia in May to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Outback. The three‐ day event, Reality, Alice Springs, was held from 20‐22 May at Blatherskite Park in Alice Springs, NT. Out of a population of 28,605, nearly 6,000 people attended the weekend event. ‘Some of you have a broken life, and God doesn't use band aids. God wants to completely change you,’ Will Graham de‐ clared. ‘Salvation is a person and His name is “Jesus”. Jesus can change everything in life. He can change your life tonight!’ At Graham’s invitation, a total of 549 people made a commitment to Christ. An additional 297 responded for prayer and spiritual support. Reality featured five different events over the course of the weekend, including evangelistic out‐ reaches on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, a KidzFest program for children on Saturday morning, and a combined church service for the city on Sunday morning. Reflecting on Reality, Graham referred to another evangelist who traveled the same territory more than 45 years prior. Dr Ralph Bell, a longtime ministry partner of Billy Graham’s, spent two months preaching in and around Alice Springs in 1969, and – Graham says – paved the way for the success of this event. ‘In Alice Springs God harvested fruit that we did not sow. Particularly among the indigenous people, Dr Bell and other missionaries planted the seeds of faith in Jesus Christ decades ago, and we are able to see the result this weekend.’ This was Will Graham’s fourth time preaching in Australia, dating back to 2010.

President's Address 85 President Jack Graham's Convention Address 2003 Southern Baptist Convention June 17, 2003, Phoenix, Arizona The theme of the Southern Baptist Convention is Kingdom First, taken from Matthew 6:33: "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you " (NKJV). OUT priorities, prayers, purpose, and passion is exalting the King and expanding the kingdom. I personally believe that Southern Baptists have come to the kingdom for such a time as this. We have been called to the kingdom of God. It is the call of our risen Redeemer King—and it's my prayer—that our Redeemer's kingdom will capture our hearts and imaginations through our churches and missionary involvement around the world. The kingdom mission will be more than a theme—it will be a way of life. We as Southern Baptists have an incredible, incredible opportunity and I don't want to miss the moment. Winston Churchill said these words: "To each there comes in their lifetime a special moment when they are figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a very special thing, unique to them and fitted to their talents. What a tragedy if that moment finds them unprepared and unqualified for that which could have been their finest hour. " Southern Baptists, this can and should be our finest hour. We must seize the opportunity. This concerns the everlasting eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is the King! Now, in Matthew 6:33 we are challenged to prioritize the kingdom: "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness..

Convention sermon Jack Graham Now I recognize that this is an awesome assignment and responsibility. It's very important when you speak anytime to know who's in your audience. I recognize that this is a fantastic and phenomenal group of people called the Southern Baptist Convention. And X recognize that we've got some powerful, powerful people in this building, so I sort of feel like the man who went to heaven and Simon Peter introduced him around and this man said "well, I tell you, I had a great experience I'd like to share with everybody, how I survived the Jamestown flood." He said "would you just get everybody together, I want to tell them, I want to testify how I survived the Jamestown flood." And Simon Peter said "That's fine, we'll get everybody together and you can tell them how you survived the Jainestown flood, but just remember, when you speak, Noah is in your audience. Now I realize there's a lot of Noahs here today, and Mrs. Noahs and I come before you with a great deal of respect and thanksgiving for this privilege and for you. My text is Romans 1;16. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation do everyone who believes, do the Jew first and also to the Greek." Years ago when the Green Bay Packers were the world champions, Vince Lombardi their legendary coach. The Packers weren't playing very well, they were missing blocking assignments, they were not practicing the fundamentals they were not practicing very well, they weren't playing well.

Endorsements for Jesus Calling Max Lucado, pastor and bestselling author “It would be hard to overstate the impact of the writings of Sarah Young. She is a stream in the desert. Her words quench our thirst.” Mark Batterson, New York Times bestselling author of “The Circle Maker”, lead pastor of National Community Church in Washington, DC “I believe that God honors bold prayers and is often just waiting to be invited to intervene in our lives with answered prayers, miracles, and fulfilled dreams. That’s why I love Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling. On a daily basis, it invites people to enter a place of powerful prayer where their hearts are open to His words of encouragement, comfort, hope, and peace.” Melinda Gates in "Christianity Today,” cofounder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation “I have a profound faith. I like Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. You live your life wide open with gratitude.” Roma Downey, actress and producer “I love my daily devotional, Jesus Calling. It’s a blessing in my day to read.” Rev. James Martin, SJ, Jesuit priest and author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage “Sarah Young won me over when she said, quite bluntly, that clearly her book wasn’t Jesus speaking! Rather, as she writes, the presence of the Lord in her life inspired her to write what Jesus might say. The result, then, is that rare combination of sensible, sensitive, and sympathetic. It’s easy to hear Jesus’ voice in Sarah Young’s words: the calming voice of the One who says, ‘Don’t worry,’ ‘Have courage,’ and ‘Trust in Me.’ For those who have not encountered His own words, Jesus Calling offers an invitation.
