Alternatively, contact the tournament director directly to confirm further tournament specific details. 2) NEW DRAW FORMATS AND INTRODUCTION OF QUALIFYING EVENTS 2012 will see an introduction of new draw formats and qualifying events for Australian Money Tournaments and tournaments apart of the Optus Junior Tour. The Australian Money Tournaments will accept either 16 or 24 players into the main draw, with tournaments apart of the Optus Junior Tour permitted to accept 16 or 32 players into the main draw. Players that miss out on direct acceptance into the main draw will be required to play in the qualifying event, where if successful, they will be placed into the main draw. There will be AR points available on the qualifying events, with a new points table and additional information regarding the draw formats available on www.tennis.com.au soon. 3) MANDATORY ONLINE ENTRY & MY TENNIS MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT It will be compulsory for all players wishing to enter an Australian Ranking tournament (Australian Money Tournament or Optus Junior Tour tournament) to submit and pay their entry online via http://tournaments.tennis.com.au It will also be a mandatory requirement for all players to have a valid My Tennis membership number, which are the new 11-digit membership numbers that start with “61”. To find out your My Tennis membership number, please contact your club or relevant Member Association. If you are not currently registered, you can do so via http://www.tennis.com.au/clubs/my-tennis/players Submitting entries online and ensuring every player is registered with a unique identifier will allow Tennis Australia to automate a number of tournament systems, including the Australian Rankings. Failure to submit your entry online or be registered with a valid My Tennis membership number may result in rejection of your entry or non-awarding of Australian Ranking points. 4) AUSTRALIAN RANKINGS STATUS LEVELS 2012 will see a continuation of the colour branded tournaments pathway, with easy to follow levels for both junior and open tournaments. Each AR tournament listed in the calendar on the following pages has been assigned an AR points level. These levels will correspond to the 2012 Australian Ranking points table, with the results from the previous month’s tournaments released by the 8th day of the following month via http://rankings.tennis.com.au 5) AUSTRALIAN RANKING TOURNAMENT RULES & REGULATIONS All changes to the 2012 Australian Ranking tournament circuit will be fully outlined in the Australian Ranking tournament rules and regulations document that will be available in late-November 2011. This document will be made available via http://www.tennis.com.au/tournaments/officials/regulations 6) OPTUS JUNIOR TOUR The tournaments under the Optus Junior Tour will offer points across the 12/u, 14/u and 16/u age groups. Select tournaments will also offer points in the 18/u age group. The top level of tournament is the Optus National Junior Championships, classified in the points table as Platinum events. The level of points then depreciate to Gold, Silver, Bronze and White, which offers the lowest amount of points within each age group. 7) AUSTRALIAN MONEY TOURNAMENTS The hugely popular AMTs will now continue to be spread across five tiers - Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and White Series AMT’s. The Platinum level tournaments will be the original $10,000 AMTs that first joined the national tennis calendar in 2006, and the Gold, Silver, Bronze and White Series AMTs will be rebranded tournaments from the National Open Tournaments calendar. Each tier of AMT must adhere to strict prizemoney distributions. Select tournaments will also offer points in the 18/u age group, but no prizemoney. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS Three historians helped to make this study possible. Timothy Gilfoyle supervised my work with great skill. He gave me breathing room to research, write, and rewrite. When he finally received a completed draft, he turned that writing around with the speed and thoroughness of a seasoned editor. Tim’s own hunger for scholarship also served as a model for how a historian should act. I’ll always cherish the conversations we shared over Metropolis coffee— topics that ranged far and wide across historical subjects and contemporary happenings.
