Instruction is available, drivers compete against the clock. No Chanhassen, MN modifications to one’s car are necessary. Experienced judges evaluate the various models based upon cleanliness, overall 2008 Atlas Grey Cayman S condition and authenticity. Note: Nord Stern conducts an ‘All Porsche Show’ at which cars are Tom Sabow ‘shown’ but not judged. Edina, MN Driver Training: A driving course designed to teach and enhance high speed driving skill and 2016 Silver Cayman GTS technique on an actual race course. Training includes classroom sessions, on-track ‘exercises’ plus supervised lapping sessions. A Pre-Requisite for Driver Ed participation and NOT to be confused with Driver Education events. Driver Training includes both Novice and Intermediate level options. Check with DT Chair for additional options. Driver Education: High speed driving event on a closed-course racetrack (Brainerd, Blackhawk Farms, Road America, for example) where drivers are grouped according to prior lap times. Prior Driver Training participation is required. Performance enhancements are frequently made (but not required!). Parade Laps: Sometimes held during lunch at Driver Training/Driver Ed events at closed-course racetracks, this controlled environment with a pace car provides participants an opportunity to take street cars on the track at highway speeds so that they can see what the course is like. Minors are permitted in state approved restraints and with a signed parental release. PCA Club Racing: Wheel-to-wheel competition between drivers who hold PCA club racing licenses. There is a race class for every model Porsche. Safety modifications to your vehicle required. Rally: An event wherein a driver and co-driver complete a predetermined route along open roads following a specific set of navigational instructions. Can be a TDS (time-distance-speed) or a ‘fun’ rally. Social: Organized gatherings of club members, affiliates and family member to meet, eat and drink beverages! Tech Session: Casual educational session that span a wide range of topics, from general maintenance, through Concours prep, performance enhancements and general car/mechanical knowledge! The sporting competition and success at the top echelon of racing in one of the world’s most famous arenas is as much a part of Porsche as the number combination 911. After a number of class wins in the early fifties with the 550, the first time on the podium in the overall classification came in 1958 with the 718 RSK clinching third place.

    Press release May 2, 2012 No. 57/12 Former Porsche chief designer dies aged 81 Anatole Lapine is dead Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is mourning it’s chief designer of many years, Anatole Carl Lapine, who died on 29 April 2012 in Baden-Baden. Lapine headed up the Style Porsche design studio from 1969 to 1988. Michael Mauer, Porsche’s chief designer since 2004, paid homage to the deceased: “Anatole Lapine shaped Porsche sports car design over more than two decades. As a designer he didn’t follow fashion but was forever setting new trends with his concepts.” Anatole Lapine was born on 23 May 1930 in Riga, Latvia. After the war, Lapine served an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic with Daimler-Benz in Hamburg before attending the Hamburg Wagenbauschule. In 1951 he went to the USA where a year later he began work at General Motors in the advanced body engineering department. In 1965 Lapine returned to Germany and was put in charge of the Opel Research Center. On 15 April 1969 Lapine moved to Porsche as head of the styling department. In addition to the design of the Porsche 911 so-called “G Series” numerous new Porsche models such as the 924, 928 and 944 saw the light of day under Lapine’s direction. But Anatole Lapine and his style team also delivered a number of Porsche Engineering third-party client development design projects. The foundation of the Westfälischer Porsche Club Hohensyburg on 26th of May 1952 was the germ of a unique idea that today is brought to life every day by events held by around 640 Porsche Clubs around the world. Today, 181,000 Club members represent a life of Porsche enthusiasm and strong ties with the brand and with the Porsche company. Standing above is Hans Mezger (second from the www.porscheroadandrace.com right) and Anatole Lapine (third from right in Porsche jacket) Son of a half German half Latvian father and a Polish mother, Anatole Lapine’s first years were spent in Riga, the capital of the then (and since 1990 again) independent Latvia. His father owned a furniture warehouse, but this relatively comfortable middle class existence was to come to an abrupt end in 1941 when the Russians invaded Latvia and the Lapine family fled to (German occupied) Poland. As a young teenager in Poznan, Anatole joined the Hitler Youth (membership was compulsory) and discovered the joys of design as he assembled model aircraft for competitions. This was the calm before the storm. In 1944, with the Russians advancing across Poland, the Lapines were once again forced to flee, this time into Germany and when the war ended they found themselves refugees in a village outside Hamburg.
