14 Sports Monday, July 13, 2020 Photo of the Day Dixon captures third straight IndyCar race LOS ANGELES: Scott Dixon became the first IndyCar driver since 2006 to open the season with three straight wins on Saturday by capturing the first race of a week- end doubleheader at Road America. The Kiwi took the checkered flag by beating Will Power by 2.538 seconds in the first race of the season that allowed fans to attend. “We’re in the business of winning so we’ve got to win,” Dixon said. “It’s so cool to be back at a track with fans, and there’s tons of them here today.” Alex Palou fin- ished third while Ryan Hunter-Reay and Colton Herta rounded out the top five at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Dixon has won each of the three IndyCar races in the pandemic-delayed season, winning last month’s season opener in Texas and last Saturday on the Indianapolis road course. A.J. Foyt (1964) and Al Unser (1971) are the only other drivers to open an IndyCar season with at least three consecutive wins. Foyt won the first seven races of the 1964 season. Coronavirus delayed the start of the campaign from March and forced the Indianapolis 500 to be delayed until August 23. Rescheduling has also created three two-race weekends, the first at Road America — where a limited number of spectators were allowed — and the second next week in Iowa. Dixon can make it four in a row with another victory on Sunday in Elkhart Lake.

For more than 115 years Renault has embraced the challenge of motorsport in multiple guises. It recognised the value of competitive activities for technical and commercial gain: in December 1898 Louis Renault drove the Type A Voiturette up the steepest street in Paris, the rue Lepic. The first orders for the ground-breaking car with direct drive flooded in. In 1902 the nimble, lightweight Type K, fitted with Renault’s first 4-cylinder engine, took victory in the Paris-Vienna rally. Again, many more cars were sold. Going through the years, in 1977 Renault introduced the first-ever turbocharged car to F1.

  • The History of Winter Cup: the Karting Talents Show Since 1996
SOUTH GARDA KARTING - LONATO DEL GARDA (BRESCIA), ITALY THE HISTORY OF WINTER CUP: THE KARTING TALENTS SHOW SINCE 1996 The Winter Cup to be held next 19-22 February 2015 at South Garda Karting of Lonato del Garda (Brescia, Italy) celebrates its 20th edition, an important event that recalls the history of this race and of International Karting of the past 20 years. This edition has been enriched by the validity as first round of the International Trophy Bridgestone Supercup. The Winter Cup got birth back in 1996 on the stunning circuit of Lonato del Garda by the will of the building Surveyor Angelo Corberi, who designed and funded the racetrack built in 1988 that has housed the most important national and international events since, including CIK-FIA World and European Championships. The first appointment with the Winter Cup 1996, race that up to that point had the denomination of Italy Cup, was a consequence of the agreement with the most important Outfits of the time to run an international race following CIK regulations on this track, ahead of the FSA and FA World Championship scheduled in Lonato on the 15th of September of the same year. From the following year, the Winter Cup has been the traditional opening to the sporting season and this status of first important race of the year has soon made it a very sought after and important event for all constructors fielding their works teams and for the strongest teams that take this occasion as a first chance for a real technical and sporting comparison with rivals.

The six-time world champion said after winning Sunday’s Sty- rian Grand Prix that a number of drivers wanted to stop the pre- race anti-racism gestures and that he feels some teams are not doing enough to show solidarity with the movement. “The drivers spoke after the drivers’ briefing this weekend about what we intended to do Mercedes’ British driver Lewis Hamilton steers his car during the Styrian GP and some were asking ‘Why do we have to continue to do this?’,” “I’ve made it clear I’m not sup- he said. “Some felt like once was porting the political side, I’m enough last week. supporting the human rights “I just had to encourage them I just had to encourage side,” he said. “I’ve said ‘Guys, that racism is here, going to be them that racism is I’m going to do it. • Thursday Press Conference Transcript 14.03.2018
Press Information 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship Australian Grand Prix Thursday Press Conference Transcript 14.03.2018 PART ONE: DRIVERS – Lewis HAMILTON (Mercedes), Sebastian VETTEL (Ferrari), Daniel RICCIARDO (Renault), Max VERSTAPPEN (Red Bull Racing), Robert KUBICA (Williams) PRESS CONFERENCE We’re gathered under very sad circumstances, following the news that Charlie Whiting, the FIA’s Director of Formula One died during the early hours of this morning. I’d like to start this press conference by asking each of the drivers present for their thoughts and memories of Charlie. Lewis, could we start with you, please? Lewis HAMILTON: I’ve known Charlie since I started in 2007. I made some comments this morning on my Instagram. It may have not worked, as I think it’s down but obviously incredibly shocked this morning to hear the sad news and my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. What he did for this sport, I mean, his commitment… he really was a pillar, as Toto said, such an iconic figure in the sporting world and he contributed so much for us, so may he rest in peace. Q: Sebastian? Sebastian VETTEL: Well I guess I was as shocked as we all are still now, when I head the news this morning, especially because I spoke to him yesterday and walked the track for the first couple of corners together with him. Difficult to grasp when somebody is just not there anymore. To add to what Lewis said. I’ve known him for a long time and he’s sort of been our man, the driver’s man.
