Since the age of 8 I have always known I wanted to race. It has been in the family with my mum, dad, sister, cousins and uncles all passing on the racing buzz. My hero was former F3000 driver, Paul Warwick before he was tragically killed. I had known Paul since I was 8-years-old. He used to help me ‘escape’ my childhood tribulations and always had time for me. Paul was a celebrity in my eyes; he has made me appreciate my young supporters because of the kindness he showed me. I became involved initially in Ministox because of the involvement my family had with Stock Car Racing. From here my path was to follow the footsteps of Paul into the Formula Ford series. I had watched Paul move successfully from Ministox to Formula Ford and was determined to progress as he had done. My career has always involved having fun and getting the most out of my weekend’s racing. This is true of my season with Legends, which looked like a low cost formula where I could enjoy racing and learn a lot about the circuits on which I competed. I have now been involved with Pickup Truck Racing for almost 10 years thanks to series Director, Sonny Howard. Sonny’s company SHP Engineering had sponsored me in Legends and it was his wish for me to enter his new formula from the outset. In January of this year I created the Kelly-Jayne Wells Supporters’ Club. Fans can enter competitions, obtain merchandise and follow the twists of turns of my career. I feel I am extremely fortunate to have met and received the help of so many friends throughout my racing career…… long may this continue. Motorsport Experience: 2006 - Pickup Truck Racing Championship This season I have developed a new team with Stevie Hodgson as Team Manager under the name of Simon Carr Racing. I have spent the season working with two of the Britain’s two top female racers, Barbara Armstrong and Susie Stoddart. I finished the Rockingham Championship in fourth place following two wins in July and August and a further two podiums. I remain as the UK’s fastest lady with no other female able to beat my lap record. I have returned to circuit racing this season and claimed a third and fourth at Brands Hatch. I completed the season in seventh position in the Overall Championship with two third place finishes at Brands Hatch the highlight of the circuits. 2005 - Rockingham Oval Championship This was the most amazing year of my racing career with my first victory in senior racing. I raced the full season of the Rockingham Championship with the Draft Racing Team. I set the fastest lap record around the oval in June with a lap time of 40.22seconds and kept this title for the remainder of the season. I took my first victory in July and was leading the Rockingham Championship into the last round with a good chance of taking the championship title. A spectacular crash unfortunately saw me finish 4th in the championship. Best finishes for 2005 included 3rd places in June and August, a 2nd in September and a victory July. 2004 - Rockingham Oval Championship I passed my Pickup Truck oval racing rookie test in early 2004 and went on to compete in the 2004 Rockingham Oval Championship. I competed in 5 races, steadily improving during the season. This included holding on to 2nd place for the majority of the race in only my second outing on the oval. I completed the last race of the year with my first podium in the championship with a third place. I finished 10th in the Rockingham Championship and won 2004 Rookie of the Year. 2003 – Euro Boss F1 I was able to spend the day driving a 1988 EuroBoss F1 Race Car at their series press launch, making me one of only 22 women who have had this opportunity. 1996 - Pickup Trucks This was another newly introduced formula. Unfortunately due to lack of funds I could only compete for half the season but I did achieve credible places. 1995 - Legends This was the first year these 1/5 scale replica 30’s American cars were raced in the UK. They were great fun to drive and introduced me to several racing circuits. I finished many races in the top three and finished in 4th place overall in the championship. 1993 to 1994 - BRSE Formula Ford Pre 85 This was my first insight into circuit racing and was great fun. I achieved a 3rd at Lydden Hill and placed well in each year's championship. 1986 to 1992 - Ministox I started racing when I was 11-years-old in full contact formula. I raced all over England and Scotland. I entered many championships winning many races, which took me to 'superstar' status. Employment History: Manufacturer Days – 1996 to present I teach their employees and clients how to gain product knowledge of the vehicles at circuits. These events are specifically organised by the companies. I have worked with Seat, Vauxhall, Saab, Porsche, and Chevrolet. This work has seen me travel as far as Bahrain. Motor Sport Vision (Bedford Autodrome, Brands Hatch, Snetterton) – 1998 to present I teach both corporate clients and the general public how to handle a racing car around the circuit. This involves not only customer relations but also a high level of awareness in health and safety. I have to co-ordinate my work with others in the team and always be aware of how a variety of things can be happening at once not only inside the car but also outside. I am required to drive a variety of vehicles to a high standard, including Caterham, Rally and 4x4 vehicles. I have also worked for the supercar experience driving Ferrari’s, Dodge Vipers’, Lotus and Porches’ until its demise in 2002. Rockingham Speedway – 2005 to present I teach both corporate clients and the general public how to handle a racing car around the infield circuit. I also take out clients on ‘high-speed’ passenger rides in a two- seater Pickup Truck. I also instruct prospective Pickup Truck competitors and teach them the ‘rules’ of the oval circuit in order for them to gain their rookie licence. Silverstone - 1997 I teach both corporate clients and the general public how to handle a racing car around the circuit. Personal Fitness Instructor – 2000 to 2007 Gym Instructor – This involves welcoming members and being able to answer their questions on health, injuries and their personal fitness programmes. I taught the members how to use the equipment correctly and efficiently, ensuring they did not injure themselves. Spinning Class Instructor – I taught up to 18 people per class how to use the stationary bike in a variety of different conditions, encouraging them by selecting the correct range of motivational music. Abdominal Class Instructor – This involved me teaching structured exercises for the abdominal area and associated muscle groups.
