Animation Department PC Users Hard drive formatting /Apple ProRes 422HQ

Some of the Animation computers have called “Tuxera” on them. This enables you to format your hard drive to work on both a PC and a Mac. There are caveats to this, which are described below. To format your hard drive take the following steps:

1. Make sure ALL data is off the drive. The formatting process will DELETE ALL your data. 2. Plug your hard drive into a Mac with Tuxera installed (They are labeled “TUXERA”). 3. Open up disc utility which is found on the dock or Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility 4. In select the root hard drive you wish to format on the left column. 5. Click the “Erase” tab. 6. In the drop down menu select “Windows NT FIlesystem (Tuxera NTFS)” 7. Name your hard drive with ALL CAPS and NO SPACES or SPECIAL CHARACTERS. 8. Click “Erase” button. This will DELETE all data and format the drive. 9. When it is done. Click on the “First Aid” tab. 10. Click the “Verify Disk” button and let it complete it’s scan. 11. Click the “Repair Disk” button and let it complete it’s scan. 12. Close disk utility and you are done.

The three conditions below will be true: 1. A drive formatted as “Tuxera NTFS” will be able to be Read / Write on any PC. 2. A drive formatted as “Tuxera NTFS” will be able to be Read / Write on any Mac with Tuxera installed. 3. A drive formatted as “Tuxera NTFS” will be Read ONLY on any Mac that does NOT have Tuxera installed

Apple ProRes 422HQ

Currently there is no way to export Apple ProRes 422 HQ files from a PC. There used to be a plug in called Miraizion, but they do not exist anymore and there was questions as to its quality.

Your options are to export your files as uncompressed tiff image sequences . Then come into school, import the image sequence into Quicktime 7 Pro and export an Apple ProRes 422HQ movie file.

Apple provides a decoder so you can read and view prores files on a windows machine: https://support.apple.com/downloads/Apple_ProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_for_Windows
